I'm really sorry about completely neglecting this fanfic. To be honest I had to come up with a valid reason about why the ending would make sense, and this was the best that I could come up with. Hope it was satisfying :) (Oh, and this is the last chapter)
Donatello couldn't think straight. He remembered one time, when Michelangelo had pulled a prank that had caused Donnie to smash his head into a wall, resulting in his lost tooth. Well, that's how he felt.
Just a few minutes prior, his older brother had fallen into a coma. Normally, the appropriate action would be to ensure that his heart kept beating, but Donatello didn't have the right technology. He sensed Raphael and Michelangelo running to Leo.
"Wake up, bro, you can do it."
"Come on, Leo…"
Donnie looked up at the other two turtles. "Guys…it's too late. Without any additional help, from any technology, his heart has already stopped beating."
However, Mikey and Raph didn't stop or even falter. Raph was beginning to panic. He couldn't actually be dead. They had gone through so much with him. He couldn't even count how many times they had beaten the odds.
"That's…that's not possible…"
Finally, after waiting a few minutes that seemed like days, both mutants stopped trying. The silence in the room seemed to drown out every other feeling.
"He…he saved me…"
The brothers turned to look at Karai, who had slipped into the room without anybody noticing. "I-I tried to destroy him, and all he did was save me! I'm a terrible bitch. So many people care about me, but all I do is get them hurt."
The kunoichi walked towards her sworn enemy, felt her eyes water.
"I'm really sorry. I'm sorry for what I thought, what I tried to do, and what I've done. I'm really sorry, and if I could do anything, I'd go back and undo everything. I'd make sure I wouldn't be such a damn bitch, your family was happy, and you were still alive!
Tears streaming down her face now, the girl didn't care what the others thought of her. They had all disappeared a long time ago. Grasping his hand, she whispered.
"I regret… I regret everything…."
And almost fell into a coma herself when those blue eyes opened again.
Hours later, Donatello walked into the main room, where everyone was either sleeping or completely passed out.
"Hey guys! I think I found out why…" he faltered when he noticed Mikey drooling on the floor. "…Leo woke up."
Annoyed, the scientist moped around for a few moments, then sighed.
I need to go to sleep anyway…I'll just write down my theory so I don't forget about it and tell them when they're actually conscious.
At 5:15, Leonardo woke up to find himself the first one yet to do so. Limping into the lab to check on Donnie, he found him sleeping on his desk, a sheet of paper next to him. Typical.
He picked up the paper, reading whatever his younger brother had worked so hard to find.
This is a note to remind myself of the theory I came up with last night about how it was possible for Leo to wake up. Earlier last night, Leo claimed that, just before he saved Karai, he was still in his insane form. I wondered how it was possible for this evil form of Leo to have enough feeling to perform such an act. The only possible solution is that Regular Leo felt a sense of extreme urgency to save Karai's life…a feeling so intense that although he wasn't able to shift back to his normal mind, he was still able to rescue Karai.
I don't know why the leader of the Foot being in danger would trigger this, but my best guess is that he finally had the opportunity to save a life and not end one. Anyway, back to my point, which is that when he was crushed under the weight of the ceiling, he was still in his 'bad' state. So basically, his mind was normal, but his physical form was not. Since his insane mindset's physical form is much more powerful than his regular form, he was able to not only sustain a coma with no additional help whatsoever, but he was also able to awaken from it.
So my best guess on what is to come? I strongly believe that Leo will be able to maintain his mindset, forever. Considering he's now immune to the effects of his snapped strings, there will be almost no difference. I guess I'll end on that note.
Signing off, Donatello
Leo looked up from the page. He would retain his mindset, forever, meaning that it could only go uphill from now. Smiling, he looked at the sleeping forms in the other room. They would figure out where to go from here. And if a problem came up, they would solve it together.
For the first time in months, Leonardo's hopes began to rise, along with the sun.
