Once Rûmil found his way home he made straight for his liquor cabinet, mostly stocked with stolen goods from Haldir's cellar, it was always fun to steal his wine nothing else seemed to wind his older brother up. Rûmil smiled at old memories, mischievous ones to say the least. Once he was well and truly drunk, Rûmil made his way out onto the flets, dangerous in his current predicament, to search for Alassëa. She had invited him after all .
Thalion had escorted Alassëa back to her home, he had noticed her after the "party" (if it could be called such) and offered to take her home, she claimed to be waiting for Lea, whom Thalion knew had already left. The truth was Alassëa had planned on waiting for a certain Ellon, he smiled to himself at that.
"Why do you laugh at me elf ?" She asked him, seeing his expression.
"I apologise fair Alassëa, my thoughts have me in out her places." He replied simply, as they walked in a comfortable silence. The talan was empty when they arrived and neither noticed the pair of eyes watching them, the ears listening to every word.
Thalion laughed, "Well it would seem that I must wait for my dear sister, I could not possibly leave you alone at this hour, would you care to invite me in ?"
The surprised ellith apparently took too long to answer as he continued. "Well, I shall keep a watch from out here." He winked at her.
"Forgive me Thalion ..." She hesitated laying a hand on his arm, "please come inside, it's much too cold a night to sit outside waiting for one who may or may not come." She alighted a little at his expression.
"She will come home, or your lord Haldir will lose more than his dignity." Thalion announced, the mischievous glint in his eye was overshadowed by the fact that, as Alassëa knew, he was completely serious. "Shall we ?" He smiled then, truly.
Once inside the talan the conversation turned to lighter matters, Thalion's first visit to Lothlorien, the day he met the three warden brothers which would change his life and the life of his family. Haldir he never had much in common with but the younger two became his fast friends.
"Speaking of them, what do you think of poor Rûmil's ... Predicament ?" Thalion chanced the inquiry. And there it was, the look on Alassëa's face, worry, hurt, anger and something else yet undiscovered.
"I'm sorry I do not understand, is he in some form of trouble that you would like me to rescue him from ? That could be the only reason you would want my opinion on the matter, I wouldn't be surprised. Just last week I ..." Thalion cut her off before she went into detail about the many, many times she had saved the brothers' behinds, he had a job to do.
"My apologies, but I must tell you something Alassëa, before it's too late, you invited him here did you not ? Rûmil I mean ?"
"Yes." She seemed nervous.
"He should have told you himself how he feels, but as his friend I find that I have to say it for him before he decides that cowardice would be the best route..."
This time it was the door slamming open, the lock breaking under the force that interrupted the conversation, a fuming and drunk Rûmil stood in the doorway.
"Well then ... What ..." The drunk Ellon attempted to speak but couldn't.
"Typical, you see what I mean ?" Alassëa looked to Thalion with a laugh, but it didn't reach her eyes, the ellith was scared of what would become of the rambunctious male when she wasn't looking, she knew from experiences like these that Rûmil could do very stupid things.
"Rûmil my friend I think it's past the time that we should be going." Was all Thalion could reply while Rûmil still stood still, albeit a little unsteadily listening, a bottle of valar knows what perched in him clenched fist, almost empty.
"Why do you look so damn disappointed ?" Rûmil hiccuped, "is it cause you wanted into ... To her bed ? Well I'll tell you something mister imladris " he held up a hand to silence a disgusted look on Alassëa's face. "You don't stand a chance ! Maybe nobody ever will ! I sure as mordor 'av been for years, since we were young elves !" LookinG at Alassëa now, "not your bed , I mean, what I meant was ... Oh valar ..."
"Enough of this !" Alassëa startled even Thalion who had been stood with a face of stone allowing Rûmil to say his piece so he could figure out a way to get him home without plummeting to their deaths.
"Thalion go home, to your talan, just anywhere you shouldn't have to deal with this."
"Excuse me ?" He asked her astounded, "Gods, how many times has this happened ?"
"More than I few I'm afraid, it's just he's usually passed out on the door, not throwing it through, he's never been so ... Vocal before or destructive for that matter." She answered calmly, "Now please I have this under control don't make this worse than it is I'll just sober him up a bit and put him to bed I want this story of why this came about, no excuses when he wakes."Thalion smiled to her, he had been right all along, "Are you positive that you need no assistance ?" He asked and as if on cue Rûmil collapsed into a heap of wooden door frame charts and glass bottle pieces, at first he seemed completely passed out then he spoke.
"Do I get a say in this ? You two remember that I am here ?" He slurred.
"Trust me Ellon you get no say, nor could you possible be forgotten, Thalion if you would be so kind as to help Rûmil to the third room on the right ?" The change in her voice was comic, from the severe tone of a mother scolding a child when addressing Rûmil, to the sweet tender voice used for Thalion. Rûmil loved her all the more, thinking of what a great mother she would make.
Once Rûmil was safely in bed, Alassëa's to be exact as there was nowhere else to put him, Thalion made his exit rather hastily, strange.
Rûmil had calmed down and thanks to many glasses of water and Alassëa's herbs was beginning to sound almost rational. He had to ask."Why did you want to talk to me tonight, you mentioned during dinner."
"Just that I fear I have made myself an enemy, I called Lea's mother out on her rather ... Rude behaviour and as I'm sure you noticed, the ellith was not too well pleased. "My turn." She smiled now, he nodded.
"What were you going to say to me Rûmil ? When you got here ? I have to know why you were in such a state, and with what happened to my front door and all."
Taking a deep breth he decided to tell her the truth, the whole truth, well the whole of it that he could remember. "I'll say the important parts first so you have time to think of a fit rejection. I love you Alassëa, I always have." Her breath hitched and smile dropped, he continued looking away from her eyes, those beautiful honest eyes. "I thought that, well I believed that you had taken a little more than a 'fancy' to Thalion and my drunken mind believed that if I broke down your door and stormed in all would be fixed." He laughed slightly at himself. "I was watching you waiting for him to leave the talan and when he didn't I couldn't contain it, I can't stand that someone else could have you when I ..."
She cut him off with a kiss, deep and passionate that was interrupted by a female voice shouting her name, the sound of thundering footsteps , before Haldir bounded through the door holding his sword to them.
In the Lady's garden, she and Celeborn were laughing at their antics, "I told you Galadriel no intervention needed there." Celeborn smiled "this means that I win the bet!" He announced.
"Oh really... I thought that tampering with Rûmil's wine, and having a sentinel help him to Alassëa's talan, oh and maybe even getting Thalion to spill all to Alassëa, was an intervention." Galadriel replied smirking, "Or did I miss something there love ?"
"No matter my lady, this bet was a win, win situation for myself."
"How so ?"
"I may not have won the power to decide what we shall do for the remainder of the night, sadly for both of us." He winked, she blushed ! "But I'm sure that you will decide upon something fair."
"As I will Celeborn, I say that you should run me a bath, it's been a hard day, I'll take the rest of my winnings later." She was smirking, he replied "That face means that I shall not be joining you in said bath my lady, now I am truly worried."
Ha, if the rest of our community could see us like this, they both thought, I wonder.
