Narumi Reina had been sitting outside with her back against the trunk of a fallen tree. Even under the shelter of the trees, she felt like she was burning up. Her hair, that she normally wore in a low ponytail, she had tied up in a high bun to give her neck some free air. It was good to be away from the threat of the townspeople back home, but she couldn't say she really liked the way she lived here. She was simply bored out of her mind as she had already finished all her books she had taken with her. Kyousuke seemed to encounter the same problem. He had been sitting in the shack for days before he decided to come out and throw knives to innocent trees. Sakuma was just walking around, making sure there was always enough food. The supplies they had gotten from Kirino were good but they only lasted for a few days. Now they had gone to eating berries and nuts that they gathered and rabbits that Sakuma had hunted down. Ranmyaku Tsuki hadn't shown her face yet. From what Reina had heard, Tsuki was a quiet girl, but Reina deducted from the fact that she was in hiding here with the rest of them, that she had a power and that she should not be messed with.
At that moment, a short knife impaled the tree trunk just a few inches from Reina's shoulder. She looked up at Kyousuke from her thoughts. He was sweating and panting like he had just ran for miles.
"Man, you almost gave me a nasty scar!"
Kyousuke shrugged, "Woman, I made sure I didn't hurt you."
Sakuma walked into frame and both Reina and Kyousuke needed to do a double take. Sakuma's long, cyan coloured hair had been cut shorter to a length that just reached the base of his neck and strands of hair covered his forehead. Reina noticed that with the long hair, Sakuma's feminine features had gone.
"Tsuki is back, and she brought company," he said.
"I like what you did to your hair," Kyousuke commented, "Maybe I should do that too."
Sakuma awkwardly put his hand to his head and grinned, "Hehe, thanks."
Reina had risen from the forest floor and walked with Sakuma and Kyousuke to the shack where two girls were waiting, one was sitting on the ground while the other was leaning nonchalantly against the shack. Sakuma put an arm around the girl standing. Next to Sakuma, the girl looked very thin and frail like she could break at the slightest touch but the gaze in her dark eyes and the pink scar that ran right across the bridge of her nose told the people around her that you should not mess with her. She didn't seem to particularly like Sakuma's touch, but she tolerated it and spoke in a hoarse voice.
"This is Arisu Himura, I found her on the way and she would like to stay with us."
Arisu Himura rose to her feet wiping the dirt off her dark red dress. She was the exact opposite of Tsuki. Her blonde hair and blue eyes contrasted Tsuki's black hair and dark eyes and while Tsuki looked like she was a survivor of the wild, Arisu Himura looked like she just walked out of a wealthy life, which she probably did, Kyousuke assumed.
"I expected things to be a little more organized," Himura commented, and immediately, Reina wasn't sure if she actually liked this girl. Sakuma half smiled and let go of Tsuki's shoulder and stepped to the blonde girl.
"I'm Sakuma Jirou, and these are Tsurugi Kyousuke and Narumi Reina. You already met Ranmyaku Tsuki."
The girl seemed to back up a little into a kind of defensive stance. Kyousuke deducted that she probably had loads of trusting issues.
"What kind of powers do you have?" Himura asked the people around her.
"Kyousuke can manipulate shadows and Reina can freeze people's bodily fluids."
Himura nodded and had a look of what looked like acceptance on her face. Yes, she thought. She could work with this
Suzuno Fuusuke was a patient woman. She could wait forever and still remain calm. But today, she was nervous and impatient and on the edge of a nervous breakdown. The marriage between Seto Midori and Nishiki Ryouma had been eight days ago and the redhead she herself was waiting for still hadn't shown his quirky face. She knew he was probably just being cautious as he was under the village's suspicion of witchcraft. Well, little did they know. These humans in this village had no idea what kind of powers hid inside some of their children. Suzuno had to say she was tired from hiding and pretending to be someone she was not. She thought she was beautiful in her own way and refused to be held down by the fears of the "normals" around her.
"You look like you're about to pop, Susie," said a tall boy with short black hair that hid his right eye from sight and the ends of the strands that covered his eye were colored red. A smirk was plastered on his face as Suzuno turned around to face him.
"Well, maybe I do, little Rai, but it is only healthy when something big is about to happen," Suzuno snapped at him. Rai grinned.
"You know," he said, "just because you start biting off other people's noses, doesn't mean Haruya will come back any sooner." Suzuno sighed. The little brat was right. Her snapping at everyone didn't bring her lover back any sooner. And she needed him. And she needed the key he wore around his neck. The plan was simple enough. Get the key. The key would lead to an abandoned warehouse outside the village. There they would begin a new life. Not just for the two of them, but also for Rai and all the other children that couldn't feel safe at home, powers or not.
I curse your incompatibility
I really hope I satisfied you guys more with this chapter than I did myself.
