Hey everybody :) Thanks for the continued reading and support you've given me-Hope you like the new chapter

As Jane sat a nurse unexpectedly burst through the door.

"Oh sorry," she said. "I didn't see you there."

"No problem," he replied, sniffling still.

"I'm Rosie," she smiled as she checked Lisbon's morphine.

"Patrick."

"You know Patrick visiting hours are going to end soon."

"Please let me stay."

"Your friend will be fine-"

"Please, she's my fiancé. I can't leave her. Please," Jane lied, desperate to stay with Lisbon.

Rosie reluctantly agreed so Jane spent an uncomfortable night in an armchair. He didn't sleep. Instead he thought about marrying Lisbon. How beautiful she'd look in a white dress. In a small church somewhere in the desert then the reception in a big hotel with a classy old front. Grace would be a bridesmaid. The band would play the Smiths and the Vamps. He'd wear a tux. They'd spend their honeymoon road tripping in an old red Cadillac. She would have something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Alex would give her away. She'd cry. He'd cry. Then, after it all, they'd buy a little house, with a white picket fence and have kids of their own. They'd play baseball. Have their mother's strength, their dad's eyes. They'd take them to see art. And they'd love them, no matter what.

...

By Wednesday, Lisbon still showed no sign of waking. Girlfriend in a Coma by the Smiths had never fitted a situation better. When Jane wasn't at the hospital, he was working at the supermarket. Kelly could tell something was wrong but he wasn't talking about it. He didn't care about school, or sleep or his own health; he cared about her.

"Jane," a voice called as he stacked shelves of painkillers.

"Grace?" he replied looking up a her.

He'd almost forgotten about her; he seemed to be forgetting everything except everything in Lisbon's room. By now he knew how many steps it was from the entrance to her room, the number of flowers in the vase by her bed, the number of freckles on her face. Grace clutched a small white box behind her back; a pregnancy test. He stood up to look at her.

"Where have you been?" she asked, clearly angry and impatient.

"What are you holding?" Jane replied.

"I asked first," she responded, clearly embarrassed by what she was buying.

Jane could lie, in fact he could tell her nothing at all. However, Grace's eyes told a story of genuine fear. She was Lisbon's friend, he hope she was his friend too.

"Let's take a drive."

...

Grace drove her old red pick up to the top of Horace Creek. The view of the Chicago skyline at this time of night was wonderful. The pair sat in the back, breathing in the fresh air. Neither wanted to start but Jane knew someone had to, so he began.

"Lisbon's mum is dead," he said simply.

"She told me that once. Last summer, the August before you arrived. I don't think she remembers, she was pretty drunk," Grace replied.

Jane hadn't realised Lisbon would ever drink, let alone get drunk, after all she's been through with her dad. Regardless he carried on.

"Their dad hits them a lot. She takes all of it 'cause she doesn't want to see anything happen to her brothers. She came home late on Sunday morning and her dad was there. She's in the hospital, she's still in a coma."

"Fuck," Grace breathed out.

"I've been at the hospital since Monday afternoon."

"I didn't even know," she said quietly. "Why was she late?"

"She was with me. I took her out. She came back to mine. You can join up the dots."

"What have the doctors said?"

"They'll be more hopeful when she starts showing signs of waking up. She's stable."

"She's a fighter," Grace smiled, holding Jane's hand. "It's not your fault."

"I shouldn't have let her come to mine. Or let her go home once she was there. Oh god," Jane said dropping his head into his hands.

Grace felt like it was her turn to be honest. "Craig and I were fooling around and we just weren't that sensible. My dad is going to kill me if he finds out." Jane was looking at her again but really had nothing to say so Grace continued, "Cho and Wayne are worried too. We thought you two had run off to get married or something ridiculous. My dad needs you on his team otherwise the Frederick Bremner Foxes are going to splatter us next week."

That made Jane smile, even if it was only a small one.

"I want to see her," Grace said, definitely.

"No, she can't know I told you-"

"I don't care Jane. She's my friend too and I want to be there for her."

He agreed, despite his reservations. They drove to the hospital with little chatter. Jane prepared her for the worst. The boys had gone home.

"Hey," Lisbon smiled as the pair opened the door.

Yay, she's up :) I'd really love a review, cause I kinda need some love atm x
