Chapter 10

With those three words the small town of Burgess erupted into chaos. The war cries of the young warriors echoing across the snow covered waste-land, their blood mixing- Okay so that didn't happen. It would have been awesome... sort of? Anyways.

Jack and I joined the snow ball fight; Our laughter mixing with the youth's as they yelled and screamed foul's as snow ball's appeared out of thin air. Jack laughed loudly as he ran a circle around the group of kid's, snow ball's forming in his wake.

"All right, who needs ammo?"

The children's laughter echoed through the neighbor hood as the snow ball fight grew, some kids joining in the unexpected snow ball war. I blindly threw a snow ball at the same time as the girl in the green sweater did, her snow ball hitting a snowman and mine hitting a girl with a pixie cut, a pink sweater and Tu-Tu. I gasped as Jamie fell onto his back, knocking down a snow man with pine needles for a mouth, and his sled on top of him as a make-shift shield. I moved gracefully to Jamie's side as I heard the young red head whisper.

"Crud! I hit cupcake!" I blinked and looked up to the other children who were backing away slowly, tensing up as if they were getting ready to bolt.

"She hit cup-cake"

I turned back to the young girl in pink who started to growl angrily at the children when, unbeknownst to anyone, a blue snow ball was sent her way, causing her eye's to change from chocolate brown to a dark blue, then change back. I looked over to Jack her sat on top of his staff, right arm bent from the follow through.

"Did you throw that?"

"Nope!"

I laughed as all the kids immediately started to place the blame somewhere else, when the girl- Cupcake- started to laugh loudly. I smiled over at Jack who threw his hands up into the air as if to say - Accidents happen. I rolled my eyes when suddenly Cupcake started to chase the other kids around with the head of her grumpy snow man, None of their faces absent of smiles. Jack and I flew after them, occasionally shoving each other as we laughed along with the children. Jack shot ahead of me as he shouted to Jamie who had just started to go down a hill.

" A little slippery!"

I gasped in shock as Jack formed a path of ice going down the hill, the other kids stumbling over themselves as Jamie shot away from them Jack next to him the entire time.

"Jack Frost you be careful!"

"Jamie Watch out! That's the street!"

I looked at the children that were left behind then in the direction Jack and Jamie had gone. Deciding it would be best if I followed, I shot through the woods and flew directly into oncoming traffic. I yelped in surprise as I heard horns from further up the street, Jack's laughter ringing through the chaos filled town square.

"Jack Frost!"

I shot forward, my wings blazing behind my back causing some snow to melt in my wake as I caught up to Jack who had just made Jamie bank left and jumping off a pile of dirt, spark's lighting as metal and asphalt met for a brief moment before ice reformed under the sled's tracks, causing Jamie to pick up speed once again.

"There you go!" I growled in frustration as I flew beside Jack, his left hand in his hoodie pocket as he commented on how well Jamie was doing now he was on the side walk.

"Jack Frost ! You are going to break this child!"

Jack laughed as he flew ahead of Jamie and I as he smiled back at Jamie before stopping short for a moment as the young boy's course became a collision course with a snow plow. Thinking quick on his feet, literally, Jack placed his feet on the street and veered the ice path to the left and into a ramp, causing Jamie and his sled to go flying into the air and directly into a pile of snow in front of Thaddeuss Burgess' Statue. Jack landed on the top of the statue, leaving room for me to sit on the base, as he exclaimed loudly in triumph!

"Eva did you see that? That was epic! I mean who knew the kid could fly!? " I rolled my eyes as Jamie's friends finally caught up, everyone worried about how dangerous that was. Right before I was about to comment on how Jack was able to keep the kid from getting hurt was a miracle in itself, a couch came flying in Jamie's direction, Knocking the boy flat on his back once again. I sighed and glared up at Jack, my hood had made it's way onto my head in the time the couch had found it's way to Jamie's side, who just shrugged his shoulders at me.

"Kids will be kids."

I shook my head at Jack once again, suspecting at when I'll have to invest on a new neck. Because by the time Jack and I die, if we ever do, My neck will only know how to move from side to side.

"Look a tooth!"

I jumped at Jamie's exclaim as all of his friends began to gather around him. I looked to Jack who had jumped down next to me,shaking his head in disbelief.

"No, No , No!"

Jack flew after the kid's who had just started to walk away from the statue, plans on what they'll do with the money popping back in forth as Jack tried to regain their attention.

"Wait a minute. Come on kids, Hold on!"

I bit my lip in concern as the sky started to darken with snow clouds and Jack's attempts at regaining the kids attention waning drastically.

"What about all the fun we just had?" Jack threw his arms in the air .

"That wasn't the Tooth Fairy, that was me! Jack Frost!"

The kid's crossed the street, complaining about cold ears and hopes of warm hot chocolates. I flew after Jack as he stood in the way of the group of kids.

"What's a guy got to do to get a little attention around here?"

I gasped softly as the entire group of kids just walked through Jack, my soul aching sympathetically as Jack's face darkened. I floated up to Jack and rested my hand on his shoulder, only to have it shrugged off.

"Jack, D-don't worry. You'll have believers soon to. Don't worry."

He glared at the ground then at me as snow started to fall gently.

" You know what Eva. Go away! Go away and play with your little Anna!"

I gasped lightly at Jacks outburst, but nodded in agreement.

"Yeah... okay. I'll see you later Jack... I'm sorry."

I flew off as the snow began to fall in larger flakes, my heart beating wildly as tears stung my eyes. I entered the park when I heard a familiar voice call out to me.

"Sissy!"

I turned around, my frown still evident in my eyes, but a false smile painted across my mouth. I couldn't let Jack's and mine bad mood effect this little girl who's been through so much already.

It's been two hours since Jack's out burst. I wasn't angry, just a little sad that Jack didn't want me to comfort him. I understood though, I have charges who can see me... No matter how long they can see me, they can see me. But Jack has no one but the spirits, and I haven't seen him interact with any other spirits beside myself, stories about the Easter Kangaroo, and Sand Man. I flew to the pond, in hope of finding Jack there. No luck.

I flew all around town, when suddenly I saw a figure on top of a red house. I flew up to Jack slowly so I wouldn't startle him. I still haven't apologized and I don't want him to stay mad at me. I was at the Edge of the roof when I heard Jack speak out loud.

"If there's something I'm doing wrong, can't you just tell me what it is?"

I bit my lip as my feet touched the roof my heart beat racing through my body.

"Because I've tried everything and no one EVER sees me!"

Jack groaned in frustration as his grip on his staff tightened, the frost layer thickening over the aged wood.

"You put me here! The least you can do is tell me... Why?"

I sighed sadly as I approached Jack as he stared up at the Moon, his face darkening as he came to the realization that the Moon wouldn't answer him.

"Jack? I'm sorry... I know, I know that sometimes I'm selfish. I'm always crying to you cause I lost one of my kids when you haven't even had one?" I stopped my apology when I saw Jack turn away from the Moon and walk towards the ledge of the roof.

"Jack?"

I bit my lip as my stomach filled with dread. Could he be that mad at me that he was ignoring me? I floated in front of him and held my hands out.

"Look Jack! I'm sorry, but please stop ignoring me! I need you to say you forgive me!"

My heart lifted when Jack heaved a large sigh, snow flakes flying into the air from his breath. He was going to talk to me! Jack looked up in my direction and I gave a weak smile as I shrugged my shoulders at him just as he floated off the roof. I opened my arms to give him a hug when he went right through me, tearing my soul apart as my wings blazed a blinding gold. I stared up at the Moon, I could have swore I heard a maniacal laugh echoing through the small town of Burgess...
