Jamie's POV
Today was the day to get Lloyd and Sensei Wu out of there and possibly save the ship if available. I was to start off with Cole to burrow our way through the mountain, creating a safe passage for us to go through all the way to the top. Once there, Lena, Triston, Kai, and Jay were to go try to get the ship while the rest of us, besides Monty and Zane, were to either try to find Lloyd and Sensei Wu or be distracting the Serpentine and Sundrels. Monty and Zane were to build the escape path which would lead us all the way back down to our hide-out. After they build this, they would either be with us or trying to find Lloyd and Sensei.
We began to position ourselves with Cole and I in the front and Monty and Zane in the back. "Positions?" Joe asked.
"Aye!" we replied.
"Go!"
Cole and I began to burrow through the mountain side, our burrowing making an oval like shape of a cave. When we reached a certain point, we waited to see if it would collapse or not. Nothing happened in a course of a few minutes so we kept going, the others following. A cool air began to fill the place as we went up, Monty and Zane's ice covering most of the cave behind us. As I scooped up the dirt and rock in front of me, I shivered slightly.
It took us about 30 minutes to get to the top considering the lack of speed with Cole and the two times we had to go back to get on the right path. No one spoke for there was no need. The end could be right around the corner and we could die, or the chance that the plan actually works would be slimmer than slim.
We broke slowly to the surface, checking where we had landed before going. We were in a room, specifically a room filled with scrolls and such. But there were no people, or snakes for that matter. "Ok, all clear," I whispered to Cole, in which he repeated to the others. We cleared out of the tunnel, I placing a carpet over the hole to disguise it.
"Ok, Lena, Triston, Kai, go through that window to get to the ship faster. Be cautious of your positions, don't switch unless you need to." They nodded and took off. Everyone else, with me." Cole checked into the hall, the majority of the serpentine were outside, some straying in and out in sections. Cole motioned for us to move and Monty and I moved to the first rooms, the others proceeding in pairs into the other rooms. We opened the door, powers at ready, but when we opened it all the way, nothing was there. Just pieces of leftover equipment.
We waited for snakes to pass before traveling to the next room. Then we continued to the next room. We heard the signal that said Lloyd and Sensei were found. We looked around and saw Cole's hand motioning us to come over. We followed and saw that Sensei Wu and Lloyd were strapped up. Cole took off the duct tape on their mouths. "Cole, you need to get out of here." Sensei Wu said.
"No, we came here to get you two and we-"
"You don't understand, they were planning this right from the-"
"Eh-hem." I froze. Then, I looked over my shoulder and saw him. The cold, heartless, evil man from Xeam. His locks of golden hair stradling from his head, the dark, deceptive eyes of a Sundrel, the toned body of a disguised man, and the grin of a mocking fool. "Hello Jamie. It's nice to see you again."
"I wish I could say the same but, as you should know by now, you are our enemy, Kyle!"
"I would watch your tongue Ms. Totsen. Afterall, you were once fond of me and-"
"Why don't you get to the point Kyle," Joe said, trying to move the conversation elsewhere.
Kyle turned to Joe. "Ah yes. Well, your friends have been captured as we had taken over both the ship and the monastery. What did you think we were? Idiots? Ha!"
"Look Kyle, there has to be a reason why you're doing this now. What has motivated this effect?"
"Well, the fact that one, I'll be in charge of all of Xeam after you 5 are taken to prison and two, I'll have total access to this world as well. The world will become my oyster! Now, Sundrels, take these few and tie them up. And...send me Jamie. I would like to take care of her...personally."
The Sundrels came to us and began to grab us, one by one. "No!" I shot out my golden power at one, then at another, but they were crowding around too fast. Monty was standing ok...until he was taken out by a Sundrel coming around. No no no no no- Joe was taken out next, then Triston was going out too. That's it. I beat down one other Sundrel before making a grab for Cole and speeding out of the place.
"No! Don't let them es-"
"CRASH!" I was speeding out the window, down the mountain, to the forest. Crashing was heard behind me as Sundrels were coming at us at a great rate. Come on legs get us to safety at least!
Tree by tree by tree. Turn by turn by turn. I took a look back and saw the Sundrels getting closer, my energy being drained. "Cole I can't go on like this much longer!"
"Let me think!"
"Better think fast!" Oh why did I have to grab him?
"Ok, get ready. Hold on to me tighter." I tightened my grip, my power literally almost taken from me. "Steady….Steady… NOW!" I felt myself being flipped over and I was in the air before letting go and landing on a close tree branch, Cole beginning to use his power on the ground against the Sundrels to build a fort of dirt. One by one the Sundrels ran into it and as it happened, my vision was blurring up. "Jamie? Jamie!" I felt myself go limp and was picked up by him. "Don't worry, I got you now. It's my turn to carry you to safety." With that, I blacked out.
*Cole's POV*
Get Jamie to safety. Get Jamie out of here. Get her away from them… I jumped through the trees like a mad man until I couldn't go any further. With that, we took shelter in a tree. I placed her down onto one of the bigger branches as I took a look around at the place. "I think we lost them…" I said to myself. I took a breather. I should've seen that coming. No plan is perfect…
I looked back to Jamie and began to examine her. She was ok, just needed to take a break. Must've been about 50 or so miles until she was able to take a break. And at the rate she was going...she could've nearly killed herself. I checked her pulse. It was normal thankfully. She needed to be taken out of the situation for a little bit, that was all. Her features were now soft, light, and- I looked away. "Stop it Cole. Concentrate!" Ok, we were ambushed in the mission, no one else is available to help us. We are just an army of 2 against an army of many, with the one in particular that makes the plans around there who will likely take over, what was his name again? I know it was with a K… Oh well. So this mastermind could see through his plans...but how? Had it been just Garmadon or the snakes by themselves without Pythor...but that guy was prepared for it. So what could we do?
I heard a groan behind me and I checked to see that Jamie had awoken. "Cole?"
I approached her. "Jamie, are you ok?"
She nodded. "How did we get here?"
"Well, you took us 3/4's of the way and I got us out of the Sundrel part and managed to escape them with you, but you had passed out when we got that far."
"Oh...Dang, that would explain the pain in my legs...I haven't ran like that since...since the battle in Xeam…" She looked down for a little bit. "The others…."
"They couldn't escape. You fought with them but then as they were taken out one by one, you grabbed me and took off."
"I didn't know what else to do. I knew that if we didn't escape then there would be no hope for this world...And I couldn't do it alone. If I was alone I wouldn't have been able to make it and-"
"Yes you would've. It just wouldn't have been easy. Even now it isn't. But here we are, together, alive for another day. And we will save them."
She looked back up to me with her hopeful brown eyes. "I hope so Cole…" I then gave her a hug in which she didn't reject.
We stayed like that for a minute before I let her go. "Sorry...Look, who was that guy?"
"Kyle?" I nodded. "Well...he was living with us in the village. He was actually someone that trained us but he was not identified as a Sundrel, it was like with Monty and his yellow eyes, it was mere genetics...but then he was leading all of us for doom. We barely escaped."
"What did you do last time to defeat him?"
"Well, I faced him head on, solely. But now that he has his army with him...I don't know what we can do."
"Look, there has to be a way to defeat him. There are now 3 leaders there, one of the shadows, one of the snakes, and one of the sundrels. We need to take care of it now before anything else comes around. Come on Jamie."
"What about you? Do you have anything?"
"Well once we plan something they just know. I don't know what else we can do other than run in there with no plan, but that isn't something that one just does!"
She looked away from me for a little while, in real commitment to thinking. Then...a grin appeared on her face. She looked up to me, her eyes flashing. "I got an idea."
*Lena's POV*
"I knew I should've prepared for this! Wherever Sundrels are Kyle is likely to be there too." Joe muttered, moving around in his cage. We were all in separate, solitude cages, the keys against the wall but, of course, out of reach.
"Who the heck was that dude anyway?" Jay asked.
"Kyle, a betrayer from our village," Monty hissed.
"Oh. Well, would one kindly explain how we plan to get out?" Kai asked.
"Kai, please be calm," Nya said.
"Yes Kai, you know how you get when you're angry," Sensei Wu said calmly.
"Well, there always is a quirk in the system, one way or the other…" Joe said, looking around.
I looked over to the keys again. "Joe...the keys." He looked over to the keys.
"Can't reach them from where we are Lena."
"I know but…maybe my power will want to work now."
He considered it before he sighed. "Try as you wish. If it gets bad, abort mission."
I nodded. I turned to the keys and tried. Come to me….come to- Sparks flew and I got hurt. Darn it….ok, once again, come on Lena, you got this...you have to.
