„If there is anything, call me," the Doctor told Clary and Jace. The four of them were standing on the front steps of the New York Institute. Clary wanted to stay with the Timelord and Rose but the Doctor said it was impossible. He had sworn she could join him and Rose for one trip and now she already had two. And also… if Clary travelled with him, Jace would, too. And he couldn't say that he liked the blond boy that much. Yeah, he was okay but no one to travel with for more than one journey.

"Doctor, I don't want you to go," Clary said.

"I can come and visit you whenever I want to, can I?" He grinned. "For you it may be just 10 minutes."

Clary sighed. "But how can I go on if nothing happened? I mean, you showed me another planet. You showed me the past. My life was completely normal until I found out I was a Shadowhunter. Everything changed. And I am sure you know that this experience changed it again."

The Doctor looked a bit sad, but unbending. "I can't take you with me."

Clary took a step forward, Jace grabbed her arm. "Why?"

"You should have never found my sonic screwdriver. But you did and I took you with me to thank you. But that's it, Clary. We all have responsibilities. Yours is to be here on Earth and protect it." He smiled.

Clary felt angry and sad. No! He couldn't go away just like that. No!

Rose smiled sadly. "Clary, we won't be gone forever."

"But you will be gone."

Jace finally said something. "Clary… I think the Doctor is right. We're Shadowhunters, not time travellers."

She shot him an angry look but took his hand. If it wasn't Jace but somebody else who had said that she would have punched him in the face. But Jace was someone she couldn't be angry with for longer than a few seconds.

She snorted. "Ugh… Doctor!" She said sharply. "Don't dare not visiting me!"

The Doctor grinned and nodded but something about the look he gave her that she knew he wouldn't come back for her.

Rose came over and hugged her shortly, but tight. "Hey, if there's an emergency, just call. We'll be right there, okay?" she whispered into Clary's ear. Clary nodded, then Rose smiled one last time before going into the Tardis. "Goodbye, Doctor" Clary said.

"Goodbye, Clary" he replied. He firmly nodded at Jace who just replied with a short move of his head, not even a nod. The Doctor entered the Tardis and closed the door. Jace squeezed Clary's hand, then pulled her into his arms. "How could you agree with him?" she asked.

"Because in that point he was absolutely right" he answered.

"No" she whispered into his throat.

"Yes. Clary, listen. We are Shadowhunters. Our duty is to protect the world from demons, right? That's what we have to do. We can't just travel through time and space because we want to. We kill demons, Clary. In our time. Here and now." He cleared his throat.

Clary sighed a second time. "Do you think we will see him again?"

Jace wanted to say something but Clary added: "Answer truthfully."

He was silent for a moment. "I don't think so. But that doesn't mean you should give up your hope."

"I wanted to travel with him so bad. Those two trips were… I can't describe it. I want more of it." She paused. "You don't like him, do you?"

He heard his little laugh. "No, I don't."

"And you wouldn't travel with him again?"
"Nope."

"I would rather be stuck here forever if it was with you than travel with the Doctor again if I had to leave you here" she said in a low voice and looked up into his face. He smiled lovingly down at her, then kissed her softly. She wouldn't leave this for anything in the world, she thought.

"Let's go to your room" she whispered after he let go off her. He grinned, took her hand and they went up the stairs. But they didn't even come to the front door, when they heard a noise and turned around to see something there they didn't think to see ever again.

This is the last chapter of this story but don't worry. There will be a sequel ;)
