Chapter 11:
I just stared wide eyed at the man standing at my front door. What was he doing here?
"Stu?" I saw how his eyes were traveling down my body, so I wrapped my arms around myself, and tried to make the tiny robe magically bigger and thicker just my wishing it, even though I knew that it was impossible. It was almost as impossible as my luck. I cleared my throat and tried to look him in the eyes. "What are you doing here?"
"Well, If you invite me in, instead of standing with your door wide open practically exposing yourself for your neighbors to see, I'd gladly tell you." I rolled my eyes and stepped aside letting him come inside, though I felt like he was looking right through me as he entered, making me feel really self conscious.
"Um... sure come on in" I locked the door behind him, and watched him admiring my tiny apartment. My eyes followed him taking everything in until he put his black leather bag down in the corner, and sat down on my couch.
"I'm off for a week, and I'm going to be here with you to help you prepare for your dream date." Here with me? Does that mean he was staying with me?
"How are you off for a week, I'm well aware of how busy your schedule can be, and you can't just come see me at the drop of a hat, just because the famous 'Wade Barrett' wants to" That came out more snarky than I intended it to, but he wasn't offended just amused just like he always is with me. Why is it that I am always saying something that amuses him?
"Actually I can" he chuckled and then paused looking at my still confused expression. "I see you haven't been watching lately." That much is true, but I have been recording them on my DVR to watch at a later time. I have been so consumed with work and exhaustion lately. This was so out of the ordinary for me, I usually always found time to watch. "Why don't you go get dressed and I'll tell you about it when you get back."
"What?" I had forgotten for a split second that I was still in my robe. My embarrassment took over when he pointed toward my ensemble, jogging my memory. Oh great, I'm standing in front of him half naked, and the only thing I can think about is how awful I feel that I haven't watched wresting in a while.
"You could stay like that all night if you like, I just figured you'd want to be more comfortable." I felt my cheeks flush, and I walked toward my bedroom. "Besides I wouldn't mind, That robe is very flattering for you by the way." He winked at me, making my heart beat faster, and cheeks flush redder. I slammed my bedroom door shut. This just made him chuckle.
When I came back out into my living room I wore a pair of faded blue jeans, and a navy blue tee shirt. I left my hair out of my messy bath tub up do, and let it fall down. At least I was a bit more comfortable, and definitely not showing too much skin. I sighed plopping down on the couch beside him.
"There fully clothed, now can you explain whats going on?" I could still feel his eyes on me as if he was checking me out.
"You are too tense!" I threw a pillow at him. "See, you're viscous too!" he joked throwing it back at me, but I caught it just inches from my face, making me laugh.
"Ok,ok... Stu!"
"I'm on a break because I appeared on smackdown, and when I got into the ring with Alberto Del Rio I had a bad landing off the ropes." I could tell there was something he wasn't telling me.
"And that's enough to bench you? You have fallen before."
"It is this time Jam, This fall wasn't planned, I blacked out"
"You... what do you mean, after you fell you blacked out?" I gripped the side of the couch, knowing this couldn't be good and starting to worry.
"No, I was supposed to win, not lose this match, but when I'd gotten on the top rope,I was supposed to jump and then come back up to put my finishing move on him, I got light headed and passed out before I could do any of it." I took in everything he was saying, and felt panic as he went on. I covered my mouth gasping in shock. There were about a million questions running through my mind, but I couldn't form one thought. So he went on with his story. "Paul was concerned so he pulled me aside after the medics were through with me..." Oh my gosh there were medics too, well I mean of course there were. "... He told me to consult a doctor and take some time off." He just stared at me for a moment with these sad eyes, but I knew it wasn't on purpose, he hated showing weakness to anyone, he hid it behind sarcasm. It was only for an instant ,because he changed his tone back to playful. " So I thought I might as well do some thing useful on my time off and come help two emotionally crippled people find love."
"Are you alright? I mean that was a stupid question you blacked out, that isn't normal. Did you go see a doctor? Do you have any other injuries?" My mind was going a mile a minute and all of the questions were flying out of me. "Can you still fight?"
"Calm down love, yes I am alright, I just got a bit bruised from the fall, I have a doctor, don't worry this isn't new for me, it just got worse, but I will be fine. I am here for you, now lay your problems on me." I just sat there in shock, how could he say that and expect to just act like it doesn't matter, I just stared at him in disbelief. Though one thing stayed in my mind, '...this isn't new for me'. What did that mean? I knew he was going to be reluctant to tell me, so I figured I'd just drop it for now.
"You're here... to help me? How?" I leaned my head back against my couch cushions.
"You're going to tell me what you are afraid of ,and were going to work through it together, so that you are able to have the man of your dreams." Wow I thought, how is it that everything that he says eventually ends up with him helping me and Randy get together? I realize that is the ultimate goal, and why he is helping me ,but is he incapable of talking about anything else. "And I will get all of the credit for the both of you being happy!" And there is the snarky self centered Stu I know. I chuckled hearing that last part.
"Fine, How long are you hear for?"
"I'm here until just after your date!" He said as a matter of fact.
"Is that necessary?"
"With you... yes!" I punched him lightly in the arm and we both just looked at each other waiting for some one else to say something. I guess having him in my corner for a week wasn't the worst thing, and he's pretty good company.
"So... Would you like some coffee, I put some on just before you came?"
"Got anything stronger love?" I giggled.
"There's Bud light lime in the fridge, help yourself" He made a disgusted sound, that I supposed was a grunt or an attempt to make fun of my beer of choice, but I ignored him, pouring my coffee instead.
"Eh Chick beer!" He walked over and examined the cold bottle.
"You don't have to drink it if you're too macho for my chick beer!" I was about to take it out of his hands, but he pulled it away, popping the cap off the edge of my kitchen table.
"Hey!" He forcefully pulled it away from my reach and chugged it. Then made a very disgusted face, only causing me to erupt in a fit if laughter. "OH my god that is awful." He just stared at me with a raised eyebrow as I couldn't not stop laughing. I normally didn't drink beer, so I didn't exactly know good or bad quality, but I'm guessing my choice wasn't popular among manly athletes such as Stu Bennett. "Will you stop laughing, or I will give you something to laugh about!" This for some reason only made me laugh harder, until he came over to me, picked me up over his shoulder, throwing me onto the couch, and tickling my sides, until I cried out for him to stop, if there was one thing I was, it was very ticklish.
"Ok! Ok, Stu! I give, I'll stop!" I pleaded through uncontrollable laughter. He did stop, thankfully. I was able to catch my breath, as he stared down from on top of me. We both just stared at each other, waiting for the other to say something, and neither of us made any attempt to move. I watched as Stu's facial expressions started to change, it looked like he had a lot going through his mind, and I wanted to know what exactly that was. I wanted to know what made him tick, he was a very complicated man, and there had to be more behind his mask that he wasn't showing me. Just as I was having these thoughts, Stu reached down to my face and pushed a strand of hair behind my ear, tickling my skin, at his light touch, making me instantly shiver.
'Ring... ring... ring' I was started from my thoughts when I great my phone go off, It was Randy. I instantly sat up, smiling. I looked over to Stu, and he nodded for me to answer, as he listened, on speaker phone.
"Hey Randy!" I sounded like a teenage girl, as my voice squeaked with excitement.
"Hey, there yourself!" He sounded way more calm than I was, and decided to take it down a notch in excitement.
"I mean hey" I corrected, feeling really foolish, but it made him chuckle.
"I don't have long to talk, but I just wanted to call you to say hello, I'm having a rather rough night and wanted to hear the sound of your voice." Aw I felt my heart melt as he said this. No one has ever said anything this sweet to me.
"Is everything ok?" I was now hoping he didn't get injured too.
"It's just traveling on the road can get lonely" I heard him sigh. " I was actually wondering if you'd consider coming on the road with me sometime?" What! I was not expecting that! "I can think of a lot of ways to not feel so lonely with you here, and you would be way more fun to look at than a bunch of guys!" I felt my whole body shiver. "I know what I am asking is a lot, so take some time to think it over" I nodded to myself, realizing that only Stu and myself could see a head nod.
"Um... Sure, I'll think about it" I had a lot to think about, but truth be told , I didn't know how to answer him right now.
"Good, now unfortunately I have to say goodnight."
"Good night Randy!"
After we hung up, I looked over at Stu, with panic. He gave me a look of understanding, because he knew something was a bit off, he knew that his friend was moving a bit too fast, and he had to figure out why. Stu looked over at me and I could tell he was forcing smile.
"Alright, so are you ready For Sexy Stu Bennett's School of love 101?"
