A/N: Here's chapter eleven! This one includes material based on the extended scenes from The Unexpected Journey. If you haven't seen them, but I'm sure you have, go see them; they are hilarious. And just so that you know; I'm not gonna follow the movie so accurately; there will be some small changes in the plotline. For example now; I'm gonna make their stay in Rivendell longer; so don't be surprised why some scenes take longer to happen. Also; there will finally be something major happening between Haley and Kili, so be prepared for some cheesiness.

Disclaimer: I only own my OC, etc...

Chapter 11: Rivendell

As Haley walked through the rocky path, she got a strange feeling. She didn't know how to describe it; but it gave her a tingling, yet pleasant feeling. There was something strange in the air. It felt a little bit like…no way!

"Gandalf", she called the wizard walking behind her, "Where are we?"

"You can feel it?" the wizard asked her, even though he seemed to know her answer.

"Yeah, it feels like…magic." she said almost in a whisper.

"That's exactly what it is", Gandalf smiled at her, "A very powerful magic."

Haley stared at him in wonder. She didn't have any experience with Middle-Earth's magic, even with Gandalf around, since wasn't constantly pulling magic tricks from his sleeves. She was pulled away from her thoughts when the dwarves started to hurry forward.

They finally reached the end of the tunnel, coming to the other side of a mountain. When they gathered around; Haley saw a pathway leading to a valley. When she followed where the path lead, her jaw dropped to the ground. In the valley was a beautiful white palace, surrounded by green trees and clear fountains. Haley was absolutely taken by its beauty, she had never seen anything so wonderful.

"The Valley of Imladris. In the common tongue it is known by another name." Gandalf said as he emerged from the path.

"Rivendell." she heard Bilbo whisper in awe.

"Here lies the Last Homely House East of the Sea." Gandalf explained to the dwarves who had started to mutter in wonder.

Thorin turned to look at Gandalf angrily. "This was your plan all along" he said accusingly, "To seek refuge with our enemy."

"You have no enemies here, Thorin Oakenshield! The only ill will to be found this valley is that which you bring yourself!" Gandalf snapped at him.

"You think the Elves will give our quest their blessing?" Thorin demanded the wizard, "They will try to stop us."

Haley arched her eyebrows in confusion. 'Elves? As in Santa's little helpers?'

"Of course they will! But we have questions that need to be answered." Gandalf retorted, and this time Thorin couldn't argue back.

"If we are to be successful; this will need to be handled with tact. And respect. And no small degree with charm", Gandalf told them, "This is why will leave the talking to me."

Haley snorted slightly. 'Yeah, good luck with that.'

When they crossed the bridge leading to Rivendell, Haley looked around in amazement. Everything looked so beautiful, she could hardly believe her eyes. And she wasn't the only one; she could see Bilbo looking just as awestruck as she was. After crossing the bridge; they gathered around a round-shaped courtyard. Haley noticed that the dwarves look rather uneasy and grumpy; and wondered what was the matter with them. Then her eyes turned to the staircase leading to the city, and noticed a figure walking towards them.

"Mithrandil." the figure nodded to Gandalf as he approached them.

"Ah, Lindir." Gandalf greeted him. Then Lindir said something in a language Haley didn't understand.

Haley stared at Lindir in awe. He was a tall man – or rather an Elf – wearing purple robes. He had long brunette hair, and fair features. Haley nearly gasped when she saw his pointed ear tips. 'So this is what an Elf is.'

"I must speak with lord Elrond." Gandalf told Lindir.

"My Lord Elrod is not here." Lindir stated simply.

"Then where is he?" Gandalf asked, getting a bit worried.

Before Lindir could answer; a horn blew somewhere behind them. They turned to look and saw several riders approaching them. Thorin shouted in dwarvish; ordering them to gather around. The dwarves pulled Haley and Bilbo into their middle and formed a protective circle around them. The riders reached them and started to circle around them in a perfect line. Haley got a bit worried; wondering if they were going to attack them.

"Gandalf." greeted the Elf leading them astride a black horse.

"Lord Elrond." Gandalf greeted him back happily, relieved to see him. Then they spoke again something in the strange language. Lord Elrod climbed down from his horse and embraced Gandalf warmly.

"Strange for Orcs to come so close to our borders" Lord Elrond finally switched to English, "Something, or someone, had drawn them near." he said pointedly.

"That may have been us" Gandalf said as he turned towards the dwarves, beckoning Thorin to step closer. The dwarf-king stepped forward, attempting to look as regal as possible.

"Welcome, Thorin, son of Thrain." Elrond greeted him.

"I do not believe we have met." Thorin said bluntly.

"You have your grandfather's bearing" Elrond told him, "I knew Thror when he ruled Under the Mountain."

"Indeed? He made no mention of you." Thorin said gruffly.

Elrond looked at Thorin for brief seconds until he began to speak in something in the strange language that haley presumed to be Elvish. But she had no idea what he was saying; and so didn't the dwarves, who were starting to get angry.

"What is he saying?" Gloin snapped at him, "Does he offer us insult?" he demanded angrily, the other dwarves agreeing with him.

"No, Master Gloin, he's offering you food." Gandalf reassured them.

The dwarves began to murmur in groups. Haley watched them in confusion, not understanding why they were so hostile towards the Elves. They finally stopped talking and Gloin cleared his throat.

"Well, in that case, lead on." he told Elrond before they were led inside.

When lord Elrond had asked a maid to lead Haley for a bath, Haley had been way over the Moon. She couldn't remember when she had felt this good. She hadn't had a proper bath or shower for ages. During their quest they had had to do with rivers or ponds, and it had been several days since they last had been able to bath. So having a real bath felt like Heaven right now. Haley was so glad she could finally clean off all the sweat and grime from her body.

After she finished her bath, she returned to the room she had been given to stay. There she found a beautiful mint green dress lying on the bed; her clothes been taken to be washed. Putting the dress on; Haley found that it was a perfect fit, which was surprising since the Elves were much taller than her. Then she brushed her thick red hair before looking at herself in the mirror. Deciding that she looked at least decent, she began to make her way to the dining hall where the other would be waiting.

When she reached the dining hall, she noticed that the dwarves were already there. They had already settled around two small tables while waiting for their host. Some Elves were playing harps and flutes to entertain their guests. The dwarves were all talking among themselves until they noticed her presence. Haley felt everyone's eyes on her as they stared at her in amazement.

"What?" she asked in confusion "Is there something on my face?"

"No, it's just that…", Kili began, though he seemed to be loss at words, "You look really beautiful." he said finally, earning words of agreement from the rest of dwarves.

Haley blushed before lowering her head shyly. She had never considered herself as particularly beautiful, so hearing them compliment her made her feel a bit shy. But she managed to give them a small smile before she sat on an empty seat next to Bofur.

Soon the Elves brought them their dinner. To the dwarves' horror; the dinner consisted only from vegetarian dishes. They examined the food skeptically and grumbled at the lack of meat. Haley herself didn't mind, and began to eat with great appetite. Lord Elrond appeared soon with Gandalf and Thorin, who were both seated on his table.

Then Haley noticed Kili staring at something, looking absolutely mesmerized. She followed his gaze and saw a female Elf playing a harp. Kili was looking at her with smitten eyes before winking at her with a smile. Haley was stunned; she felt like someone had closed a fist around her heart and squeezed it. Not even when the others laughed at Kili for mistaking a male Elf for another Elvish maid could make her feel better. She merely stared at her plate with a frown. 'Of course he'd fall for an Elf maid. I'm not beautiful like them. Why would he even consider me; I'm nothing compared to them.'

"You okay, lass?" Bofur asked in concern, having picked up the gloomy change in her mood.

"Yeah, I'm fine." she lied, hoping to convince him. He looked at her puzzlingly, but didn't say anything.

"Change the tune, why don't you" Nori complained to the harp-playing Elf before turning to the Company, "I feel like I'm a funeral!"

"Did someone die?" Oin asked in confusion.

"Alright lads, there's only one thing for it." Bofur said before he climbed to stand on the table and began to sing:

There's an inn

There's an inn

There's a merry old inn

Beneath an old grey hill

The other dwarves grew excited by his song, and began to stomp their hands on the table and sing along:

And there they brew a beer so brown

The Man in the Moon himself

Came down one night drink his fill

Oh, the ostler has a tipsy cat

That plays the five-string fiddle

And up and down he saws his bow

Now squeaking high

Now purring low.

The Elves were looking at the dwarves with confused faces. Hadn't Haley seen them do this already at Bilbo's house; she would have been just as confused as the Elves. Now she simply sighed as the dwarves began to throw their food; expecting another round of "blunting the knives" as they kept singing.

Now sawing in the middle

So the cat on the fiddle

Played hey-diddle-diddle

A drink that'll wake the dead

He squeaked and he sawed

And he quickened the tune

And the landlord shook the Man in the Moon

"It's after three!" he said

The song ended and the dwarves burst in laughter. They began to throw their food around with such eagerness that Haley had to duck every once in a while in order to avoid food splashing onto her face. 'Honestly; dwarves and their table manners!' she muttered mentally, but she couldn't stop a tiny smile creeping onto her face. Even though she didn't always quite understand their ways; she had to admit that she had grown very fond of them.

That's when she noticed Kili, and remembered how fondly he had looked at that Elf maid. A pang of anger hit her, and she felt like hitting him with something. Then she noticed a cream-tart lying on the table near her. And the dwarves were still throwing food at each other. 'Well, why not?'

She grabbed the tart and threw it at Kili's direction. It hit him on his left cheek, smearing the other side of his face and hair with cream. The dwarves started to holler with laughter, and Haley smirked in triumph. Kili looked at her in utter confusion, but Haley simply gave him a cold smile.

Once the dwarves had calmed down a bit, the Elves began to play their instruments again. The dwarves resumed to their eating, but Haley wasn't hungry anymore. All she could feel was a knot in her stomach. She decided that she needed to be by herself.

"Excuse me." she said as she stood up from her seat and began to leave. The dwarves watched her going with confused looks.

"Haley, are you okay? Is something wrong?" Kili asked her.

"I just need to be alone for a while." She said dryly, not bothering to explain herself.

"Do you want me to escort you back…?" Kili tried to offer, but Haley swirled around to face him, her eyes blazing with anger.

"No!" she snapped at him, making everyone jump off their skins, "Just…leave me alone!" she said before storming off, leaving everyone there utterly confused. Since she had directed her hostility towards Kili, everyone turned to look at him with questionable looks.

"Did I say something wrong?" he asked them in confusion.

Haley wasn't looking where she was going. She didn't care where she was going, she just wanted to be left alone. She just had to get away from Kili, she couldn't bear watching him flirt with the Elf maid. One more minute; and she might have said or done something she would later regret.

Deciding to return to her room, Haley turned around; but then she realized she had no idea which way her room was. She didn't even know where she was right now. She must have gotten lost while rushing from the dining hall without paying attention to her surroundings.

"Great, just great!" she muttered angrily and kicked some pebbles in frustration. 'Just my luck to get lost when I last need it!'

"Are you lost, little one?" a voice suddenly broke her from her curses.

Haley turned around and saw a tall male Elf standing few feet from her. He had dark hair and fair features. He wore fine robes similar to Elrond. His blue eyes shined with curiosity and wonder.

"Y-yes, I am. I was just at the dining hall, but I decided to return my room. Except that now I can't find it." she explained, wondering how long had he been there.

"Ah, you must be one of our quests!" the Elf exclaimed, "But you don't look like a dwarf." he added with a curious look.

"Oh I'm certainly not! I'm a human!" Haley exclaimed, a little hurt at being mistaken for a dwarf.

The Elf merely chuckled. "I thought as much. Forgive me, I didn't mean to offend you" he apologized to her kindly, "If you wish, we can escort you back."

"We?" Haley asked in confusion.

"Yes, we." another voice suddenly said behind her, making Haley jump. She turned around and saw another Elf behind her. He looked almost exactly the same as the one in front of her!

"Wha-what?" she stammered as she kept looking between the two Elves.

"Allow us to introduce ourselves" the first Elf chuckled before bowing slightly, "I am Elladan, son of Elrond, and this is my twin brother…"

"Elrohir." the other one finished, also bowing slightly. Now Haley could see the resemblance between them, and both did look a lot like Elrond.

"My name is Haley." she introduced herself.

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss Haley." they both said at the same time.

"Now that we know each other, Miss Haley, would you like us to give you a tour around our home?" Elladan asked her.

A smile appeared on Haley's face at the idea. "Yes, that would be nice!" she exclaimed with a smile, her mood definitely lifted up.

"Well then, Miss Haley" Elrohir said as he reached his hand for hers, "If you'd please."

Haley took his offered hand and allowed them to lead her on. They showed her all kinds of places in Rivendell; such as the gardens, stables, magnificent halls and libraries. Haley was absolutely amazed by everything; everything seemed so wonderful in there. The three of them talked during the tour, and the brothers even made Haley laugh couple of times.

After the tour, the brothers escorted her back to her room. When they reached small stairs leading to the room; Haley was surprised to see Kili standing by her door. He was pacing back and forth, looking rather nervous. When he saw her coming, he turned to look at her with a worried expression. But his look turned into angry one when he saw the two Elves with her.

"Haley, where have you been?" he demanded her as he began to run towards to her.

"Why do you care?" she snapped at him slightly, still feeling mad at him.

"Of course I care; I was worried about you!" he exclaimed at her. The he turned to look at the Elves with a distained look, "What were you doing with these two Elves?" he demanded her.

Haley was about to snap to him, but Elladan stepped closer before she had a change to say anything.

"My brother and I were giving Miss Haley a tour around our home. I apologize if we have caused you worry. We were just escorting her back to her room." he explained politely.

Kili just snorted at them rudely. "Thank you, but I can take it from here." he said before grabbing Haley's wrist and pulling her with him towards the stairs.

Haley mouthed "I'll see you later" at them before turning her attention to Kili. She tried to wiggle herself free from his hold, but he had a firm grip onto her wrist. When they reached the end of the stair; he finally loosened his grip and Haley yanked her wrist free. She turned to look and him indignantly.

"Why were you so rude to them? They were just keeping me company!" she demanded him.

"Because they're Elves! You can't trust Elves, and I don't want you anywhere near them by yourself!" he nearly shouted at her.

Haley huffed in annoyance. "What's with all of you hating the Elves? What did they ever do to you to make you hate them so much?" she demanded from him. Kili was silent for brief seconds, and looked down for a small while. Then he sighed and began to talk:

"When Smaug the Dragon attacked Erebor; my uncle, Thorin tried to seek refuge from the Elven King of Mirkwood. He pleaded them for food and shelter. But the Elven King refused and turned his back on their suffering. No help came from the Elves. That's why we don't trust them. And that's why we don't love them."

Haley's heart softened at his tale. It all made sense now, and she could understand why the dwarves didn't trust the Elves. But that was still no excuse for his behavior. She crossed her arms over her chest and snorted angrily at him.

"Then what about you? Your long-lasting hatred with the Elves didn't seem to stop you from flirting with that Elf maid today." she retorted at him.

"What? Oh, Haley, it was just harmless fun! She didn't mean anything to me!" he exclaimed. "The only girl I care about is you! You're the only one who has a place in my heart."

Haley's eyes widened. Did he really mean that? Did he really care for her? She looked deep into his eyes, and saw sincerity and something else in them. For a while they both just stared at each other, until a small smile crept onto their faces. Then Kili approached her.

"Look, I have to go now; my uncle wants to talk with me and Fili" he said in a slightly disappointed voice, "But we'll see later tonight, at midnight when the others are asleep. At outdoors; I'll see you there, alright?"

"A-alright." Haley nodded at him, glad that they would be alone without anyone distracting them.

Kili smiled fondly at her before making his way to find his uncle. Haley stared after him, already counting minutes to see him. When he disappeared from sight, she went to her room to change her clothes. Glad to find her own clothes back already; she switched into them before she went to find the rest of the Company.

She found them hanging around on a balcony that had been given for their own use. They were laughing and talking among each other, some of them smoking their pipes. They all became silent when she entered the balcony, and stared at her.

"Haley, are you alright?" Bilbo asked her in concern, "You looked so distraught when you left the dinner."

"Don't worry, Bilbo, I'm okay" she said as she came to hug the Hobbit, "I just…needed some time for myself."

Bilbo patted her back and nodded at her understandingly. The dwarves murmured in relief and invited her to sit with them. Soon they were all talking and laughing among themselves, and having a great time. Haley listened to the dwarves' tales of adventures with great interest, and even told them few tales from Earth at their request. The dwarves especially loved the story of Snow White since it had dwarves in it. She had such a great time she hardly noticed how the time passed by. Suddenly realizing it was almost midnight; Haley excused herself, wishing them goodnight before returning to her room.

When she entered into her room, she checked herself from the mirror briefly to make sure she looked presentable. Then she popped her head outside the door to make sure there was no one in the hallway. Seeing the cost was clear; she sneaked outside.

She looked around and saw no sign of Kili. It was as silent as a graveyard. She walked around and called his name in whispers. Seeing no sign of him, she stopped by a large tree. She started to wonder if he had forgotten about their meeting; when suddenly someone grabbed her from behind.

A hand clasped onto her mouth before she could scream. Next thing she knew; she was hoisted up into the tree. She felt herself being lowered to a branch, and then she saw Kili crouching in front of her. He put a finger in front of mouth and made a shushing noise. Then he gently removed his hand from her mouth. Haley had to take deep breaths to calm down her heart from the scare.

"Kili, what are you doing?" she exclaimed in astonishment. Kili simply gave her sly smile.

"Trust me and you'll see!" he answered before pulling her towards the branches leading to the roof.

Haley felt a bit unsteady moving on the branches but they seemed sturdy enough. She allowed Kili to lead herself towards the roof.

"Don't worry; it's quite safe", Kili assured her as they began to climb onto the roof, "Come on, I want to show you something!"

He climbed onto the roof with ease and helped to pull Haley up. He held her hand as he led her to sit on the ridge of the roof.

"Look!" he told her and pointed to the sky.

Haley looked up, and her breath was caught in her throat. She saw millions of stars shining brightly on the clear night sky. And there was even a full Moon that shined like a diamond. She had never seen anything so beautiful! She hadn't thought Kili would bring her stargazing, but she was glad he did. He gave her a kind smile before they turned their attention back to the stars. For a long while; neither one said anything, they just sat in silence as they gazed to the sky.

"Oh, it's so beautiful!" Haley sighed dreamily, breaking the silence between them.

"Yeah, it is." Kili replied, but he wasn't looking at the stars. His eyes were fixated on her. Haley turned to look at him.

"Is there any special reason why you brought me here?" she asked. "Not that I don't appreciate it; but I was just wondering."

Kili blushed a little bit, and he lowered his gaze. "I…I just wanted to do something special to show you how I feel about you" he said before looking back at her, "I really wanted to spend time with you alone, and I wanted this moment to be perfect." he said before looking back at her.

"You really did this for me?" she asked and she began to lean closer to him.

They stared at each other hazily, totally lost in each other's eyes. "I would even get that Moon from the sky for you, if it would make you happy." he said as he began to lean his face closer to hers.

"Well then" she smiled before leaning closer, "Consider job well done."

They brought their faces closer and their lips met in a kiss. It was hesitant at first, but then they started to get more heated. Haley saw fireworks in her eyes, and her heart was beating like crazy. Kili felt something like a lightning bolt hit through him. Then they had to pull apart in order to breath, but they leaned in almost immediately for another kiss. This time they kissed each other more passionately. They practically melted into each other.

They didn't know for long they sat there kissing. Time and place seemed to be lost to them. Eventually they pulled apart; knowing it was getting very late.

"We should probably head back." Kili said, even though he didn't really want to leave yet.

"Yeah." Haley whispered and allowed him to pull her up to her feet and help her climb down the tree. Luckily the tree was just close to her room, so they didn't have long way to go.

Kili escorted her back to her room, holding her hand the entire way. When they reached her room, Haley opened her door, but turned back to him once more.

"Well, goodnight." she said with a smile.

"Goodnight, my lady." he said as he brushed her cheek with his hand.

Haley leaned into his touch and placed her hand on his. Kili smiled at her before taking steps to leave. She kept holding onto his hand until they had to let go. She gave him one last smile before leaving to her room. Once there; she lied on the bed and closed her eyes with a happy sigh. The kiss was still on her mind as she fell into a pleasant slumber.

A/N: OhMyGod; it's official now; they've kissed! Does this mean they're an item now? Sorry if that scene felt weird to you; I'm not so good at writing kissing-scenes. In the next chapter: will the others find out about them? Stay tuned, and in the mean time; leave some review along the way!
