The jet flew over Germany a few hours later. Running into a bit of turbulence, this caused the passengers of the ship to jostle about.
Sam's head immediately rose from where she had leaned it back against the padded cushion of the seat. She hadn't realized that she had fallen asleep before her orb fell from her lab and landed on her toe.
Blinking the sleep away from her eyes, she just watched the orb roll across the ship.
The Captain just watched the entire thing happen and when it appeared as though she weren't going to get up and grab it, he moved to do so.
"Don't." She placed a hand on his strong chest, covering the white star that lay there, his cheeks flaring unintentionally at her forward actions. Instead, she simply held her gloved hand out and he watched with amazement as the orb flew through the air to rest in her open palm.
"H-How...?" He shook his head in disbelief.
"I don't know myself. Just happens." She smiled slightly at the man whose eyes were still focused on the orb.
Suddenly the back gate to the jet started opening and Agent Romanoff turned around in her seat to look back at them.
"This is where you two get off!" She yelled over the roar from the winds caused by the engines. The plane was hovering over what appeared to be an old apartment building.
Sam quickly looked back to the redhead before she gave her a thumbs up, slipping a headset over her ear. Walking down the ramp, both her and Cap jumped from the plane and landed easily.
The jet quickly flew off, leaving the two behind to do the job that was assigned to them.
As the plane moved out of sight, there was a quiet beep in her ear and she raised her fingers to the headset before she clicked it on. A small map appeared before her left eye.
"Loki's not far from here. Just down the block actually." She said before turning and looking out across the top of the apartment. Her eyes caught sight of a fire escape and she immediately jogged to the side of the building with Steve in her wake.
Quickly descending the building, the two of them were soon back on the ground and were jogging down the street.
"This way." Sam murmured as she turned another corner before catching sight of a large crowd, kneeling before a single man with a large horned helmet upon his head.
It seemed as though the two of them arrived in the nick of time when Loki fired a ball of hot energy at an elderly gentleman. Rogers quickly rushed forward and used his star spangled shield to deflect the shot. With both luck and skill, the energy bounced back and struck Loki himself who fell to the ground in pain.
"You know, the last time I was in Germany and I saw a man standing above everyone else, we ended up disagreeing..." Steve said as he slowly walked through the crowd of kneeling people. Everyone slowly rose to their feet.
"The soldier." Loki chuckled as he used his staff to get up off the ground. His eyes then caught something in his peripheral vision and he turned to watch a familiar female drop from the sky and land beside the colorful man. "And the Goddess!" He beamed again just at the sight of her in her little minx outfit that hugged her body perfectly. "What a pair you two are!" He shook his head as he stepped forward.
There was a sudden buzzing in the air and Sam glanced over her shoulder to see Agent Romanoff inside the jet. A door dropped open and a machine gun suddenly armed itself, pointing it at the strange alien.
"Loki, drop the weapon and stand down!" The redhead's voice came through a speaker on the plane. He only smiled widely before he shot a bolt of energy at her which she skill maneuvered away from.
The Captain took his opportunity and launched his shield at Loki who was able to block it with his staff. Advancing forward, Sam's hands began to grow hot as she heated them with electricity until they began to shake.
The man swung his staff at her but she ducked underneath it and punched him in the kidney. He groaned and stumbled back slightly, sparks coursing across his armor before he raised his staff and used the blunt end to swat her away.
Cap had her back and jumped into the fight until he was also knocked away just as Sam was.
"If you have powers, use them!" Steve yelled as he got the blunt end of Loki's spear in his gut.
"There's too many people around. They're going to see me!" She cried, remembering that she was supposed to keep her powers a secret. She didn't want people to know about her. They would think she was a freak.
"That didn't stop you from falling from the sky a few minutes ago!" He snapped back as he pushed back against Loki who was trying to push him down using his spear.
"Fine. Move, Rogers!" She said before quickly drawing her orb out and sending a huge stream of water towards the horned man. Steve was lucky to move out of the way before it barreled into the man in green, knocking him off his feet.
Sam was immediately at Loki again, not giving him much time to recover. He was soon back up on his feet and he swung at her but he missed and she nailed a solid blow to his stomach using her foot. The man quickly retaliated though and he twirled his staff around to smack her across the face, causing her lip to bleed as she was knocked to the ground.
When she turned over, she found herself underneath the end of Loki's spear. Her hands slowly raised themselves up in defeat when suddenly, she tilted her head to the side as she listened intently as a familiar tune began to play throughout the air.
Shoot to Thrill blasted from the speakers of a familiar suit that came zooming in their direction.
White hot energy shot forth from the bots hand, successfully knocking Loki away from the female. The gold and red suit came to land before it aimed every weapon in its arsenal at the horned man.
Sam slowly pulled herself from the ground, calling her orb to her as she went. Slipping it back into her pouch, she winced when she touched her split lip but looked up as she came to stand beside the armored man.
"Make a move, Reindeer Games." The bot said and Sam couldn't help but smile slightly at the remark directed towards Loki's helmet. The dark haired man only raised his hands in defeat, his armor disappearing in a strange golden glow. "Good move!" The robot encouraged as it lowered its own weapons.
Steve was out of breath as he came to stand beside the strange red and gold robot, sparing Sam a glance before looking back at the suit of armor.
"Mr. Stark." He greeted, still panting.
"Captain." The robot replied and Sam straightened slightly when she realized who this really was.
This was Iron Man. Well, in all actuality, this was Tony Stark, owner of Stark Industries and a billionaire, not to mention a womanizer.
Oh, in Sam's book he was amazing. He was a technological hero.
"And I don't believe that we've met..." She was suddenly pulled from her wondering thoughts by the very man in her mind. Her mouth suddenly went dry. She didn't know what to say to someone like him.
"S-Sam Greene!" She managed to spit out. She just smiled nervously as the face plate rose up to show her the man beneath the metal.
"Tony Stark. I like your suit." He said as he looked her up and down, taking in the sight of her skin tight attire. He also held his hand out and she shook it. "Where did you get it? JC Penny's?" The nervous smile then fell from her face upon hearing his remark.
"And I guess there's the textbook narcissist..." She said sarcastically, pointing in the man's direction. "Except, I think they forgot to put 'asshole' on your description in the file." She smiled slightly all the while batting her eyelashes. Stark just wrinkled his nose slightly before turning away.
Romanoff soon landed the jet, all four of them watching as she did so. When they were given the signal to move forward, Steve grabbed Loki's arm and tugged him forward. The two of them just walked passed Sam who had her arms still crossed over her chest.
"Lovely to see you again, dear." He winked, a sly grin pulling at his lips as Steve continued to lead him away.
Sam just frowned slightly, trying to shake his pale face from her mind. Bending down, she retrieved the spear off the ground.
"Are you even old enough to be playing with toys like that?" She tuned to look at Stark as he eyed the weapon in her hands, his brown eyes flicking up to her face.
"Aren't you a little old to be tinkering with toys at all?" She retorted as she reached into her side pouch and retrieved her own glowing orb of energy in an attempt to prove her point. Stark just wrinkled his nose at her again before following behind Steve and Loki.
The jet ride was silent for the most part, neither Steve nor Sam really warming up to the newest edition of the Avengers.
Sam was seated on the row of seats when Cap decided to join her, seeing as how Stark was in a less than loving mood.
"I don't like it..." He murmured to her, low enough so the dark haired alien wouldn't hear them. It appeared as though Mr. Stark could hear their conversation though.
"What? Rock of Ages giving up so easily?" He gave Loki a new nickname which just caused Sam to raise her eyebrow.
"They never give up that easily." She added, her hands forming a steeple as she thought about the events unfolding.
"This guy packs a wallop!" Steve said quietly, risking a glance at Loki who was just staring at the wall across from him.
"Still, you are pretty spry for an older fellow..." Cap just turned to look at Stark, confusion written across his features. "What's your thing? Palates?"
"What?"
"It's like calisthenics. You might have missed a couple things, you know, doing time as a... Capsicle." From what Sam could tell, Steve did not like Tony's remark and he just glared at the dark haired male.
"Fury didn't tell me he was calling you in." Steve changed the subject, his jaw clenching in anger as he tried to keep himself from saying a few choice words in front of a lady.
"Yeah, there are a lot of things Fury doesn't tell you." Stark retorted as he suddenly looked over at Sam, remembering that she was on board the ship. "And I didn't even see your file in with the others. Is she even allowed to be here?" He asked Steve whose frown only deepened.
Yes, Tony Stark certainly wasn't good at making friends.
Sam just let out an exasperated sigh through her nose, shutting her eyes in the process as she felt her anger begin to grow, the current inside her swelling as her anger did.
Outside the jet, lighting flashed across the sky and Sam contained a growl.
"I deserve to be here just as much as you do, Mr. Stark!" She nearly snarled as she rose up out of her seat to get in the, surprisingly, short man's face. He simply held her heated gaze, having to tilt his head up to look at her.
She was kinda tall.
More lightning flickered across the sky. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as Loki shifted uncomfortably in his seat and for some odd reason, this set Sam off even more.
"What? You don't like a little lightning?" She growled at him, still angry from the argument with Stark.
"I'm not overly fond of what follows..." He said, his eyes still wearily looking up through the glass ceiling at the electricity that traveled across the sky. She just narrowed her eyes on his form, taking a small step forward.
Does he mean thunder?
She just rolled her eyes before shaking her head, finding his words to be completely idiotic. But as she turned back to face the other two Avengers, she paused when a thought struck her.
Before, when the lightning flashed, there was no thunder to accompany it. It was peculiar, seeing as how she never had to control thunder. It just sort of accompanied the lightning.
And then her face paled upon realization. Something was wrong. Thunder always follows lightning.
Stark and Cap just exchanged a worried glance in her direction, wondering if it she was the one causing all the trouble outside the jet.
"Greene, you need to calm down. Stark, stay away from her." The redhead warned from the front of the jet.
Sam just nodded her head before taking a deep breath in hopes of further controlling her anger. However, the lightning didn't stop.
"Sam, you heard Agent Romanoff. Calm down." Steve warned her but she just shook her head, her eyes wide. It wasn't her.
"Yes, Samantha. Do calm down. You're scaring me." Loki said sarcastically and Sam turned to look at him to see a dark grin on his face. He then winked at her which caused her lip to turn up slightly in a grimace.
A large flash of lightning suddenly flashed across the sky and a huge crack of thunder could be heard before something crashed into the top of the jet, causing it to shake slightly.
All heads were directed upwards towards the ceiling.
Stark slipped his helmet back on and Cap took a hold of his shield. From her place, Sam just flexed her knuckles, letting electricity dance across the fabric of her gloves.
Once his helmet was in place, Stark pressed the button to open the back gate as he moved to check on the loud thud outside. However a figure landed in the opening.
He had shoulder length blonde hair and on his body, he wore a thick set of metallic armor. A long red cape also billowed out behind him in the wild winds and in his hands rested a hammer.
Wait, a hammer?
But, she knew his face. She remembered his face. Because, honestly, how could she ever forget a perfectly sculpted face like that?
The golden haired man walked forward and Tony tried to stop him but he smashed him in the chest with the aforementioned hammer. The Iron Man suit went flying through the air and Sam quickly rolled out of the way and back up onto the balls of her feet.
Spotting Loki off to the side, he snatched him up by his throat like he weight two pounds before moving towards the back of the jet.
"Wait!" Sam called as she lunged for them, only for the two men to dive out of the back of the jet to disappear into the sea of gray clouds.
"Another Asgardian?" Romanoff asked from the front of the jet.
"Think they're friendly?" Steve asked Stark who pulled himself off the ground with the help of the seats.
"Don't know but if he saves Loki or kills him, the Tesseract is lost!" He replied before stalking off towards the end of the gate.
"Wait, we need a plan of attack!" Cap shouted over the roar of the wind. Stark just stopped before turning back to look at the two of them.
"I have a plan... attack!" Stark then leapt off the back as well before he, too, disappeared.
"I'd sit this one out, Cap!" Natasha yelled as she flipped some switches in the cockpit of the plane.
"Don't see how I can." He said as he reached for a parachute and began to buckle it around himself.
"These guys are from legend! They're basically Gods!" She replied but it didn't seem to faze him.
"There is only one God, ma'am, and I don't think he dresses like that!" Cap grabbed his shield before he also dove out of the plane.
Sam only stood there for a moment, feeling as though she were going to miss something if she stayed on the plane. "I... I better go and make sure they don't kill each other!" Sam shouted over the wind and Natasha looked back at her.
"Good idea. Have fun!" She replied sarcastically as she left the gate open.
With a running start, Sam ran towards the large opening. Using her feet to push off the ground, she leapt from the plane and sailed through the air.
Clicking her headset on, she was able to pick up on Stark's signal through all the chaos in the air around her. Free falling through the clouds, she decided to save herself some trouble and decided to not work at all. Zooming through the air, she soon came close to her destination and she had to use the air current to propel herself through the dark sky.
She arrived just in the nick of time to see Steve break up the vicious fight between Stark and this strange new blonde man.
Idling back a moment, she listened to the conversation as she hovered in the air, wondering where this was going to go.
"I've come here to put an end to Loki's schemes!" The blonde guy retorted back to Cap.
"Then prove it! Put that hammer down..." Steve explained slowly, trying to talk the apparent God down.
Stark suddenly looked very distressed and Sam decided that she may have to intervene.
"Uh, yeah no! Bad call! He loves his-" However, Stark didn't get to finish his sentence as the man swung his hammer back, smashing Tony in the face as he went.
Sam couldn't help but chuckle slightly. Stark got what he deserved.
"You want me to put the hammer down?!" He cried as he leapt into the air, hammer raised to attack. Eyes widening, Sam shot down from the sky, landing just in front of Cap who had his shield raised out of instinct.
The blonde man hadn't noticed her yet and she was able to catch the top part of the handle so that she could brace it with both of her hands. Her feet dug deep into the Earth and she gritted her teeth as she pushed back against the man's impossible strength. The ground churned up around her toes and she let out a small growl as she struggled to push him back.
The man's eyes widened when he saw the female holding his hammer back and he immediately swung it back, sending her flying through the air.
Rolling across the ground, she was able to roll up onto the balls of her feet. Turning back to face the man, he was about to throw his hammer when he stopped, taking in her appearance before chuckling slightly.
"Really? You send a woman to stop me? How pitiful you humans are! I will not fight her!" He exclaimed as he placed his hand upon his hip as he relaxed, clearly not intimidating by the new arrival.
Sam just snorted. "What? Are you scared that you're going to get beat... by a girl?" She raised her eyebrows in a mocking manner.
"I do not have time for your feeble games, woman!"
"Then just pretend that I'm not a woman!" He hesitated for another moment and same stuck her hand out and gestured for him to attack her. "Come at me, bro!" She mocked him. The large mans simply waved her away and he turned away but stopped when he heard the next insult.
"Pussy."
Raising his hammer to the sky, the blonde man only glowered, not appreciating the fact that some Midgardian woman was calling him a small, domesticated feline.
Lightning flashed across the sky before it reached down and struck his weapon, illuminating the man's face as he absorbed the strong electrical current.
Redirecting it at Sam, she simply braced herself and brought her orb out, letting the lightning strike the glass. Gritting her teeth as it struck her, the blue sparks danced about her person. As the stream of lightning ended from the hammer, Sam growled slightly and she shut her eyes in focus.
Sucking in a deep breath through her gritted teeth, she was able to release it through her nose as she attempted to calm the strong current now buzzing about in her body.
Opening her eyes once again, they clouded over momentarily before they returned to their normal hazel color as she successfully suppressed the huge bolt of lightning. She felt completely full, just like she had finished a buffet and she groaned in response.
Taking another deep breath, then redirected the lightning right back at him, all though it was certainly stronger than he had had first sent it at her. The man flew through the air, blue sparks flying across his body the entire time. Sam herself was hunched over as she panted, her body now weak from releasing that much energy.
"We can't keep fighting like-" She didn't get a chance to finish as the hammer suddenly came sailing through the air and connected with her gut. She herself sailed through the air until she smashed into a thick tree. Sliding down the trunk, she came to rest at the base of the tree.
Groaning, she rubbed the back of her head and opened her eyes to find the hammer just beside her feet. Using the tree as a guide, she eased herself up onto her feet, her eyes on the hammer the entire time.
Looking back to the familiar man, he chuckled at her almost as if he could see the thoughts forming in her head. Coming to stand beside the Asgardian weapon, the man then smirked at her expectantly and crossed his arms over his chest.
Narrowing her eyes, she bent down and wrapped her hand around the handle. Preparing for the heavy weight that she knew it held, she heaved it off the ground with relative ease and she smirked before looking back to the blonde man. He was no longer smirking as he watched her success.
However, he soon growled and held his hand out. Just like her orb did with her, the hammer was drawn to its master, although Sam got to ride along this time. Being yanked forward by the impossible force, the two of them collided into one another. The hammer dropped from both their hands with a quiet thud where it came to rest on the ground.
However, the two of them didn't stop there. When they collided, Sam had been going rather fast and never had a chance to slow down which sent them both flying through the air. Crashing into another nearby tree, the two of them handed in a heap of metal and flesh. Sam would later count herself lucky that she did not land on the bottom. Raising her head up off of his chest, she looked around in a slight daze, finding the area around them to be a mess.
Feeling the strange man beneath her shift, she then realized how they were situated and blushed like mad before looking up to his face. For a moment, she swore that she saw a ghost of a smirk on his face before it suddenly twisted into a look of annoyance.
Scrambling off his chest, she watched as he suddenly called for his hammer. Reaching into her pouch, she also found that her orb was missing. Holding her own hand extended, she watched as the man leapt into the air again, his hammer raised. It wasn't half a second later that her orb met her palm and she raised it above her head for protection, shutting her eyes in the process.
A huge amount of built up energy was released when the two weapons connected, sending a powerful blast out in all directions. Sam herself, being closest to the explosion of power was sent flying through the air again, her body tumbling over itself a few times before coming to lie in a heap of blonde hair and tight fabric.
Groaning as she slowly came to, she raised her head off the ground to see that everything in the see able area was completely destroyed and blown to bits by the force of the explosion.
Shaking her head, she pulled a stick from her hair when she spotted the rest of her group a short distance away. Getting up onto her hands and knees, she simply stayed like that for a moment, her head pounding painfully and her orb clutched in her palm.
"Are we done here?" Steve asked as the three men came to stand together. The blonde man just nodded his head slightly.
"You can come pick us up." Tony spoke through his suit to the jet who had been circling the fight the entire time.
Agent Romanoff quickly responded and told him that she needed to find a clear area to land, seeing as how they had destroyed the landscape for a good two hundred yards in every direction.
Sending him a link, Tony soon began to lead the three men away when Steve didn't hear the fourth member of their party following. Turning back, he found that she was still on the ground on all fours, just staring at the ground.
"You alright?" He asked as he walked back towards her.
"Yeah, just resting." She responded, though to be completely honest, the wound on her back was hurting and her head only continued to throb painfully.
Slipping her orb into her pouch, she looked up to find a red glove being held down to her. Taking his wrist, Cap carefully pulled her off the ground. Her balance wavered slightly and she held onto his arm for stability. He just sent her a worried look before dusting off her shoulders to rid them of the debris of the battle.
"Hey, Capsicle? JC Penny? You guys coming?" Both Stark and the blonde man had stopped at the top of the hill to look back on the two people lagging behind.
Sam only sent him a dark glare as she slowly but surely followed behind Steve who stopped to help her step over any large logs that were in their way.
"Yes, we're coming, Narcissus." She responded before stepping down off the log. The two eventually made it to the top of the hill and when they looked down into the valley, the jet was waiting for them and the redhead already had Loki in custody.
"Did you have fun?" Natasha asked when Sam walked passed her. The blonde woman just laughed quietly before easing herself down onto one of the seats.
"Oh, tons." She replied sarcastically.
