Mello was well-versed in Matt-speak. When the redhead got particularly excited, he stopped making any kind of sense. Mello, in his infinite genius, had somehow figured out some kind of system to decoding this stream of incoherency.
"And then-- and then-- you know! It-- yeah!" It was awesome, you should have been there.
"You--you... what-- I can't-- you could've-- I-- ARGH!" I can't believe you did something so stupid.
It made more sense to Mello than when he was coherent, because this nonsense was exposed and open, direct counter to the usual indifference and apathy, and couldn't be misinterpreted.
