CHAPTER 10

AN ESCAPE PLAN

KAI`S POV:

Jay and I were jumping from tree to tree, listening to see what these skullheads have to say. Jay and I decided to split up. I was a little nervous about that, considering the fact that I knew he would open his mouth and say something. I stayed in the same tree for ten minutes when I finally heard some talking.

"I can't believe our home got destroyed after that earthquake happened," the skeleton in red armor said, "Why is it that whenever we find a place to settle down at, it always gets demolished?"

"I don't know," the skeleton in blue said.

"I know one thing. I know good and well that Master Samuki is planning to sign a peace treaty with the humans soon. He says getting into battles with them is getting old."

"Well, if Samuki is planning to do that, does that mean we can form allies with the ninja?"

"How should I know? I do know that the Serpentine signed a peace treaty with the humans. Hey, why don't we form an alliance with the Serpentine?"

"Could we still form an alliance with the humans?"

"That's if the humans are wanting to do that. Master Samuki`s gonna give them a choice. We sign a peace treaty to form an alliance, or sign a peace treaty to leave the humans alone. Once that's over with, it'll be the end of the battle between humans and skeletons."

"Hey, do you ever have that feeling that someone is watching you?"

"Sometimes. Why do you ask?"

"I think someone is watching us from above."

Just like that, I left the scene. I jumped out of the tree and swung myself over to Jay. Looks like I found some pretty good information. The skeletons want to form a peace treaty to end the battles. This ought to be good. I found Jay in one of the trees farther away from the camp.

"Were you able to find out anything?" I asked.

"Not really," Jay said, "I was able to sneak up in Samuki`s tent, though. He was writing something on a scroll. It kind of looked like a peace treaty."

"I overheard a couple of boneheads talking about making peace with us. They may want to form an alliance with us."

"Is there another choice that we can make?"

"Either that or we can sign a treaty for them to leave us alone."

"Well, if that's all the information were gonna get, then we might as well head back."

"Yeah. Sensei will wanna know about this. Come on. Let's go find the two lovebirds."

We jumped off the tree and went to search for Zane and Zeah on foot.

ZEAH`S POV:

This is not what I planned to see on my first mission. A child being locked up with their face locked in a mask made of iron. I can't believe this. For the past ten minutes I tried kicking the lock of the cell to see if I could break it. I knew it was not working, but I had to try.

"Please don't make so much noise," the child said, "They'll hear you."

"I am pretty sure they are all too busy with their construction to hear us," I said, "Plus, they are too far away from this part of the forest."

"It doesn't matter. The guards come to check on me every hour of the day. If they see the lock halfway broken, they'll see that I tried to escape and they will punish me severely. Then they just put me and all my belongings in here inside a different cell."

"We will get you out of here," Zane said.

We heard noises coming from the background. Two skeletons were entering the cave.

"Its the guards," the child said, "You two need to get out of here."

"We are not leaving without you," I told her, "We will find a safe place to hide until the coast is clear."

Zane and I hid behind some large rocks next to the cell. The guards came by and looked at the child with stern eyes.

"Well, well, well," the guard in green said, "If it isn't our little prisoner."

"Have you been trying to escape again?" the orange guard asked.

"No," the child said, "I promise you, I haven't."

"Then why is the lock halfway broken?" the green guard asked.

"I was just playing around," the child said to the guards, "I'm being serious. Believe me, please." The child sound as if she was about to cry. Poor thing. Zane and I need to get that child out of here.

"I don't think I can." The orange guard opened the cell and let himself inside. The child started backing away. The guard pulled out his sword and swung it at the child, hitting their arm. Tears almost well up in my eyes as I could not stand to see this horror. I saw that he was about to try it again, but I got up and ran towards the skeleton myself. Zane tried to stop me, but I would not let him.

"Leave that poor child alone," I said, knocking down the green guard and turning him into a pile of bones, "This child does not deserve this kind of treatment."

"What are you going to do about it?" the orange guard asked, "She's our prisoner."

So the child was a she? I let my sword connect with the skeletons. "We shall fight until one of us goes down."

"You will never win."

"If I am to win or lose, that little girl is still coming with me."

We fought while Zane snuck in to retrieve the girl. He grabbed her and called out, "Zeah ,I have her. We need to get out of here."

Not hesitating, I knock the guard down and made him a pile of bones. I scraped the other guard in there and locked them up tight. I ran off with Zane and the child.

SAMUKI`S POV:

I went inside the prison cave to talk to my little prisoner. Not only was I planning to talk to her, but I was also planning to release her. If this truce between us and the humans was going to work, then it's time to make sure we have no human in our grasp. I was actually hoping to see the prisoner inside the cell, but instead I saw my two guards inside the cell, turned into a pile of bones.

"Master Samuki, we have failed you," my green guard said.

"We let a strange woman take the prisoner away," the orange guard said.

"Excellent," I said, "I was planning on releasing her anyway. If we are to make peace with the humans, we must release any that we have made prisoner. Also, I was planning to put you in jail as well."

I'm glad I made that decision as I walked away from the cell. Those two guards were getting on my last nerves. Plus, they were kind of stupid. It was best to throw them behind bars so they can leave me alone.

KAI`S POV:

Where are Zane and Zeah? They should be around here. I can understand why Zane took a longer time with things, but Zeah? Come on. They can't have that much in common.

"Where are those two lovebirds?" Jay asked.

"I'm trying to figure that out myself," I said.

"I bet their out there somewhere doing the waltz. Telling each other how much they love each other. Taking a moment to kiss."

"I think you should've went went Zeah and I should've went with Zane."

"Fair enough, but I don't think Zane would go for it. Now that he's in love, he's gonna start feeling jealous."

"Kai! Jay!" I know that voice. It was Zane.

"Zane! Zeah! Over here!" I called out to them.

They ran over to us. I saw that Zane had something in his hands.

"What's that thing in your hands?" I asked.

"It is not something," Zane said, "It is someone."

Zane laid the person down, propping them up in front of a tree. It wasn't just someone. It was a child, and they were wearing an iron mask.

LOOKS LIKE THE SKELETONS WANT TO FORM AN ALLIANCE WITH THE HUMANS, AND SAMUKI IS MAKING SURE THAT HAPPENS. HOW WILL THAT GO?

ZANE AND ZEAH FOUND THE LITTLE GIRL AND HELPED HER ESCAPE. THEY HAVE BROUGHT HER TO KAI AND JAY. WILL THEY TRY AND HELP HER?

I CAN'T WAIT FOR YOU ALL TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.
