I woke up with tears falling from my eyes, I had been crying in my sleep. I laid my hand down beside me, and found Jace's chest. I rolled over from my back and put my arms around his waist.
"Are you awake?" Jace's voice scared me away from my thoughts. I nodded.
"Yeah, why are you awake?" His hand found mine, and intertwined his fingers with mine.
"Nightmare." He replied, he sounded tired.
"Oh." I murmured. I yawned and curled against him more. "Me too."
"Clary, I love you." He whispered, then kissed my ear.
"I love you too, Jace." The silence drifted between us for a long moment before I heard his deep steady breathing telling me he was asleep. I stayed awake for a long time thinking about Jace, Alec, Magnus, Izzy and my mom until I finally fell asleep.
Morning finally came after what felt like a long night. Magnus made me a cup of coffee and Jace made some more of his amazing pancakes (Which weren't that amazing but were still better than Izzy's). Magnus took me back to his home office, which was connected to his room but separated by an elegant room divider that seemed to be centuries old. I sat across from him at the small table, he had his papers with him and the pen I gave him.
"Now Clarissa." Magnus began. "How do you feel right now?"
"I feel fine." I replied, I know he hated such blunt responses but that's all I could think of.
"Did you see or hear something last night that set you off?" He asked. I lowered my head to look at my hands. I nodded. I didn't ever really talk about Jane that often.
"Was it the same woman?" Magnus leaned back in his chair, when he was comfortable, I felt more comfortable. I nodded again.
"Can you tell me what she looks like again Clary?" He asked. I shook my head.
"I don't want to talk about it." I whispered. Magnus nodded and sipped his coffee. I reached for mine too, and took a sip. It tasted sweet but bitter all at the same time. I sighed and looked at Magnus' cat like pupils. He stared back.
"Do you think it was Jace that caused your "attack" to happen?" Magnus pressed on. I felt my eyes widen.
"You're blaming what happened to me on Jace?" I felt my voice rise. Magnus brought his hand up as if he was telling me to calm down. I heard a soft rustle, then Alec appeared out from behind the screen. His black hair was a mess and he was only wearing a pair of pajama pants. If I wasn't already in love with Jace I would think he was pretty good looking.
"Morning." His raspy morning voice spoke. I nodded at him and Magnus smiled.
"Good morning Alexander." Magnus replied then stood up and walked to him and embraced him. I turned away so I didn't seem like I was staring. I sipped my coffee again.
"Clary, we'll continue soon okay? We're done for today." Magnus messed up the front of my hair with his hand. I stood with my coffee and made my way out. When I got to the living room, I found my mom sitting with Jace and Izzy on the couch.
"Mom!" I exclaimed and ran to her. She stood up and held her arms open. I jumped into her arms and squeezed. She laughed a little then stroked my red curls. I looked around the room.
"Where's dad?" I asked.
"Luke is at work, baby. I wanted to come and see how you're doing." She replied as her soft lips kissed my forehead.
"I'm doing a lot better, that's what Magnus said." I nodded at her, not able to stop smiling, making my cheeks start to ache.
"Thats wonderful!" She hugged me tighter then pulled away to look at Jace.
"Jace was just telling me about how good you've gotten at drawing." I felt my face get hot, and I shot a glare towards him. Jace only smiled.
"Yeah I've been practicing a lot." I murmured.
"Aww Clary I want to see, can you bring me your book?" She sat back down beside Izzy and Jace. I shook my head. I couldn't show my mom my drawing book that was full of drawings of Jace, Izzy, Alec, and Magnus (mainly Jace). Magnus and fully-clothed Alec entered the room before my mom could say anything else.
"Jocelyn! Its good to see you." Magnus walked to my mother and gave her a friendly hug. "How are you and your husband?"
"Oh we are grand." She smiled her nice, big smile. He patted her back gently then turned to me.
"Did you tell her what I said?" He asked me. I nodded. He gave me a grin.
"Clary, how do you feel about moving back home?" Mom asked. I looked from Magnus to my mom in surprise.
"What?" I asked.
"We have your bedroom ready for you to come back home. Are you ready to move back in?" Her question lingered in my head. I wasn't sure I was ready to leave them, to not be able to see them everyday. Izzy's smiling face, Alec's scowl, Magnus' grin, Jace's warm glow. I very slowly nodded my head. Mom squealed and jumped up.
"I have to tell your father!" Mom took out her phone and stepped outside. I glanced at Jace, who was calmly watching. Izzy was smiling but her eyes looked sad. Alec was standing by the wall with his arms crossed and his face was looking towards the ground. The room filled with silence.
"Congrats, Clary." Alec said as he walked out of the room down to Magnus' room and slammed the door closed. I felt my heart ache.
"Did I make the wrong choice?" I looked at Izzy. She shook her head.
"Of course not, you do what makes you happy Clary!" Izzy giggled and hugged me. She let go then skipped off down the hallway. I looked at Jace. He was smiling, it was an odd smile I've never really seen him make before but it seemed happy. He made his way to me and wrapped his arms around my body. He didn't say anything when he leaned down and planted a kiss on my lips. I felt sadness well up in my stomach. He was giving me a goodbye kiss. He pulled away and took my hands and led me back to my room. He closed the door behind us and smiled and hugged me tighter.
"I'm so happy for you Clary." His lips pressed against my ear lobe. I shivered and grabbed his arms.
"Alec wasn't too happy about it." I murmured. I felt Jace shake in laughter.
"Sometimes you have to put yourself above others, you know? Be your own hero."
