Steve woke to the sound of running water that soon stopped. He lightly stretched before forcing himself up.
Since his new bride was using the bathroom in their bedroom, he went to the guest bathroom and freshened up there before heading back to the bedroom to change into his dress uniform.
He finished dressing right before Natasha appeared wearing a simple black dress and her hair flowed past her shoulders in delicate curls and her make-up was perfectly applied.
"Good morning." he greeted.
"Good morning." she replied with a small smile. "Sleep well?"
"Sure did. And you?"
"Very pleasantly." she answered.
"Great. Well, are you ready to have breakfast with the colonel?"
Natasha nodded and the two made their way out of their house. They went to the main building and found the officers dinning room. There the colonel and general were waiting.
"Good morning, sirs." Steve greeted with a salute.
"Good morning, Captain." Colonel Phillips greeted. "Good morning, Mrs. Rogers."
"Good morning, sir." Natasha greeted. "Good morning, general."
"Ma'am." the general greeted before their meal was brought to them. They took their seats and began to eat while having a light conversation.
"So, are you all comfortable with this new arrangement?" the general asked near the end of the conversation.
"Yes, sir." the three answered.
"Good. Starting after the honeymoon is over, Captain Rogers and Mrs. Rogers will continue to work with the Army and in Howard Starks little SHIELD project. Mrs. Rogers, we'd like to know as much about the Red Room and their allies as possible."
"Yes, sir." Natasha replied.
"Well, seems like we've come to an agreement." Phillips said. "Is there any other business that we need to..."
The door suddenly swung open and a male secretary appeared with a newspaper in hand.
"I'm very sorry to interrupt like this but I have something all of you may want to see." he announced and placed the paper on the table for them to see.
The headline and front page picture caught the four by surprise.
It was a picture of Steve and Natasha walking out of the base church together and a headline saying Captain Rogers married to mysterious woman.
"Get me the person the who took this picture and wrote this article." Phillips ordered.
"Yes, sir." the man said and hurried out of the room.
"Well, there goes the plans of keeping this a secret." the general said as he held the paper. "This is going to cause quite the scene."
"What should we do if reporters want an interview?" Steve asked.
"Well, there's not much that we can do about it captain. It's up to you both if you want to go through with interviews but please try to keep Mrs. Rogers former 'employment' secret. If the American public learned their national icon married a former Russian spy, it would cause them to become very doubtful of their government and army."
"Yes, sir."
"As for the person who took this picture and put it in the paper, I'd tell him to get another job. Find out how he got onto the base and how he knew about this in the first place. Punishment will be left to you, colonel."
"Thank you, sir."
The newlyweds made their way back to their home where a copy of the paper was lying on the front mat. Collecting the paper, the two walked inside.
"Well, this is quite a situation." Steve said. "Are you comfortable with this?"
"Not entirely but, like the general said, there's not much we can do about it. As long as we keep my past secret, the public won't turn on you."
"So, what should we say if we're asked about it?" he asked.
"Guess we should make up a story." Natasha said as they sat down and began to formulate a fake story.
