Chap.12: Career Fair

"I love the fair!" Dean sang.

"It's not like a county fair, idiot." Sam said "It's a career fair. This is our chance to meet representatives of-"

"Super Chili Dogs! Fried Pickles! Funnel Cake!" Dean was walking ahead of Sam, who was reading a brochure of the day's events. The students would be allowed to roam the fair freely except for a mandatory "public punishment by order of the Captain-Commander". Sam wondered about that.

"We gonna see any captains?" Dean asked as he fell back to read over his brother's shoulder.

"Probably not. They would have sent their officers to meet with students."

"I bet we do." Dean said irritatingly.

"Why do you say that?"

"Because this place is a loony bin and the captains we've seen so far seem like they're the only sane ones here."

Sam frowned. The three captains they had met had seemed alright, though Soi-Fang was quite threatening, but he had heard that most of them were anything from eccentric to deranged and certainly unpredictable.

"What's this 'punishment' here?" Dean asked.

"It's a rendition of the Captain-Commander's favorite musical number." Said a voice behind them.

The Winchesters turned to see Captain Komamura grinning at them, fangs gleaming.

"Hello students" he said "I was hoping to see you here."

"Told you." muttered Dean as they both bowed.

"The Captain-Commander is punishing several captains in front of the Academy for their roles in what you might call a 'gang war' a few weeks ago"

"Gang war?" asked Sam.

"Yes, it is an interesting story. You see, the Eleventh Division wanted to construct a swimming pool and decided to use part of the Tenth's space for the project. I believe Zaraki drew up the plans himself. Captain Hitsugaya mobilized his forces and the Divisions met at the fence line at dawn of the first day of construction."

Sam blinked. Dean was right, this was a loony bin.

Komamura happily continued "The battle ended around noon and both sides had lost most of their unseated officers. After lunch Captain Kuchki reinforced the Tenth with his own Division and Zaraki's forces were captured or injured with the exception of himself and three officers before the Captain-Commander arrived and arrested everyone."

"I can't believe we missed that." Dean said.

"I wouldn't worry, these things always happen when we're not actually at war with someone." Captain Komamura said "You should have seen the film festival fiasco or the zombie outbreak."

"Anyway...why did you want to see us sir?" Sam asked.

Komamura's ear twitched, he seemed to have lost his train of thought. "Oh, yes" he said "I wanted to extend an invitation to join the Seventh Division upon graduation."

"Really? A personal invitation?" Sam was surprised.

"To be honest, you two are the strongest from your year. I almost never get the best from any class."

"Considering what we've heard about the other Divisions and my personal reasons for avoiding the Second, we were actually going to ask to join you anyway." Dean said.

Komamura snorted "Excellent. Anyway, you should get to the show. I heard that Captain Kuchki makes a wonderful Annie.

Note: Doesn't Komamura seem like one of the only captains that you would actually want to work for? Except for maybe Ukitake or Unohana the rest are either too crazy, too strict, too lazy, or some combination of the above and the divisions without captains probably shouldn't even be recruiting. Anyway, I like to think of Komamura as the sanest and as being highly amused at the antics of the others. Also, reference to to the crackish one-shots of Bleach like the film festival or beach episodes
