AN: Another chapter! The story shall be changing a bit from now on, and the letters will feature a lot less often. Also, Agasa-hakase now has a fireplace. ^~^ So sorry for being late! I have been bombarded with tests and assignments the last few weeks, this is the first weekend free I've had in a while. It will get busy again for the next few weeks, so bear with me. I will never abandon a story though, so don't worry about it never being finished. Thank you for understanding!
Set 1 week after the last chapter.
Ran and Conan were sitting in Ran's room, going over her chemistry homework. Ran was flabbergasted to see that Shinichi didn't know some of the answers, and he was obviously unhappy with this knowledge also.
"It's not fair!" Conan complained, pouting.
"I guess that's what you get for missing how many years of school?" Ran said with a straight face, before laughing behind her hand.
"Humpf!" Conan crossed his arms across his chest.
It was only a few moments later that Ran and Conan calmed down, and Ran proceeded to guide Conan through the notes she had taken during her class, before looking once again at her homework. They spent most of the night chatting, revising the work that Conan didn't understand, and writing down little notes to each other with more details on what to do now that Ran knew.
'ALWAYS call me Conan. You never know who could be listening.'
'Sure, sure, Shinichi :P'
'Geeze, Ran, you can't even do one thing.'
'You won't be able to call me Ran either. I will have to be "Ran-neechan"'
'Darn.'
'Awww, does Shinichi really miss saying my name that much?'
'Fine, Ran. You got me, Ran. Ran, Ran, Ran. I love saying your name.'
Ran stopped writing as she saw Conan's latest post-it note, blushing deep red.
'Really, Shinichi?'
Ran tried to hide her blush as she saw Conan read her note. He quickly began blushing also, embarrassed at what he had written.
'Stop teasing me! We are supposed to be working out tactics! Like how we should act around certain people, and stuff….'
'You're the one who started it….'
Conan glared at Ran as he quickly glimpsed what she wrote before she crossed it out, causing her to lose focus and have to hide another giggle.
'Okay then, Shinichi~! What is rule #2?'
Act like you used to around Haibara. If she finds out that you know, I'm dead. And I have a lot to live for now.'
'A dead Shinichi wouldn't be good to anyone.'
'I'm glad you can at least see that much.'
'I'm glad you forgave me for before.'
'What? I didn't say anything…'
'You're using sarcasm again. That's a good sign.'
'Yeah, yeah…. Can we just get this done quickly please Ran? I am getting kind of tired. A kid's body needs more sleep than a teenager's body.'
'Sure, it's past Conan's bedtime anyway.'
'Stop rubbing it in. You're enjoying this, aren't you?'
'I don't know what you're talking about. ^~^ If you're sleepy, you should just go to sleep. We can continue some other time.'
'Fine. -_- But one quick thing before I go. Don't tell Sonoko, Eri-obasan or Occhan. We might be able to later, but for now, they're safer if they don't know. Even if they find me out, they should still be safe.'
'Alright.'
Conan got up from his comfortable position on the desk and said a quick goodnight to Ran before heading off to his room, taking the post-it notes with him. He was going to drop them in to Agasa-hakase to burn in his fireplace the next morning. He could never be too careful with the Black Org around, after all. Neither Ran nor the sleepy Conan noticed a dove that had sat quietly out of sight on the windowsill, watching and listening to their every move.
It seemed to happen in slow motion. Ran was walking hand-in-hand with Conan towards the shops on a Sunday afternoon, minding their own business. It just so happened that Conan noticed one Kuroba Kaito walk right past them, grinning like the idiot he was, teasing Nakamori Aoko beside him. They both noticed each other at the same time, and stare openly. It was over so quick that neither of their respective childhood friends even realised that anything had happened. Kaito and Conan went on their way, a note slipped in the latter's pocket by the former.
It had been a pleasant outing for both himself and Ran, Conan decided. He stuffed his hands into his pocket, only to pull out a hastily-written note. Conan kept his surprised look off his face, using a poker face to rival KID's, and read the note, intrigued. He knew who it had come from, when, and most likely why. What he was interested in was when they would be meeting. He glanced around quickly for Ran, not wanting her to be too involved, especially not with this. It wasn't his secret, after all. The coast was clear, and he snuck off to his room, which was luckily devoid of the 'great' Mouri Kogoro. He wasted little time plopping down on his futon and reading the note's contents.
'Tantei-kun,
An hour after the darkness consumes the Baker's road,
A fortnight after the forgotten celebration,
The moonlight will be as visible as the raven's dark coats.
Your second time visiting, it is such a strange thing.
I will be waiting to play the tune of the 'nana no ko'
Your memories are the key, come and play.
~You know who *smiley face with KID hat*'
A pen and note-book was in his hands, as he tried to decipher the code. A smirk crossed his face as he began to work out each clue, and mixed feelings of excitement, anticipation, and the thrill of solving the code churned within him. He let out a happy, and very childish-looking, smile as he fell onto his futon. It was good to have one ally who was facing the same demons already who he could trust completely, and not have to worry constantly about.
AN: Kaitou Kid arrives! I am not sure if I'll be able to write a heist…. If you have any suggestions for a heist or anything you would like to see, feel free to comment in a review or PM me ^~^ Also, has anyone read file 897 yet? It was so exciting Sorry the chapter was a bit short; I wanted to give everyone the chance to solve the riddle on their own first
Question for the review- What do you think the code means?
*TIP* the time I used to judge it by was May 2014, which is Spring in the countries involved. A simple Google search should grant you all the necessary information. Hopefully the next chapter will be out soon, even if it just contains the answer to the code.
