Meanwhile, back in the hospital, Jack looked up at Dave.

"Mom said she'd find a way to help dad, Uncle Dave. I asked her to help him and we had a long talk. She told me dad would be okay and he'd get better and promised me she'd help him find a way to wake up and come back."

"You talked to your mom, kiddo?"

"Yeah, me and mom often meet up in my dreams and we get to hang out, talk and spend time together. It's so awesome. I get to see mom and talk to her, tell her things, what's happened with dad, me, Aunt Jess, Uncle Sean. Oh I told mom about you moving here and being here Uncle Sean. She said to say congratulations and that's she's happy for you. But she's been watching over dad, making sure he stays okay and doesn't die or anything. I told her all about dad and about my worries and about everyone's worries, especially Aunt Jess' and Uncle Sean's. I asked her if she could help him and she promised me she'd find a way to get to him and help him come back to us. To me. She promised she'd do anything she could to help dad wake up. I know she'll keep the promise as she and dad were the ones who taught me you have to keep promises and if you make a promise, it's important you keep it. A promise is a promise. Both mom and dad have never broken a promise they've made to me. Dad promised me he'd always be here for me and I know he'll do everything he can to keep that promise, even now. He will be okay, I just know it. Call it kid's intuition, but I know that both because of his promise to always be here for me and mom helping him, that he'll be okay and wake up soon. Dad if mom's there with you now, and I hope she is, please let her help you and tell her I miss her and I love her will you? Just like I love you so much dad. Your way too awesome of a hero and dad to me to die. You have to be okay. You have always promised me that you'll always be here for me to look after me and protect me and keep me safe. In order to keep keeping that promise, you have to wake up and be okay dad. I love you way too much for anything to happen to you, dad."

"Hey Jack, buddy, it's probably time we moved your dad about again. You see to help his body and keep him mobile and to stop bedsores developing, we have to move everything but his broken leg around several times a day. Derek, could you go get a couple of strong guys to help us? We can show Jack what to do."

"Sean, what about, the you know what?"

"We'll just keep any of that covered, Derek and Jack can help on the side of the broken leg."

"What are you guys talking about? Keep what covered?"

"From his waist to near his knees, kiddo. You see whilst he's got the gown on, because of the catheter and him lying in bed, he's not wearing any underwear. But we'll keep that area well covered with the sheet. And all women will be out of the room. Can you go ask Jack Garrett, Matt Simmons, Stephen, Matt Cruz, James and say Will to come help us move your dad about? They'll know what we mean."

"Sure. What are bedsores? And why would dad get them?"

"Basically it's where the a part body is lying pressed against the bed for a long period without movement and the pressure causes a sore, which isn't very nice and can be pretty painful and can get infected. So to avoid any sores or problems happening from your dad lying immobile in the bed, we have to move his body around. It also helps keep his muscles and limbs moving and stops them getting stiff. It's all to help your dad. And how about at dinner, which will be before you have to go home with Will and Henry, you can help syringe feed your dad his dinner? It's pretty easy but he does need to be kept held up in a sitting position by some of the guys but you can help with the actual feeding if you want. Me and Uncle Sean will help you and show you what to do."

"Yeah, I'd love that Aunt Jess. I really wanna do anything I can to help dad and help look after him. Hear that dad? I'm gonna help feed you your dinner."

"And how about every time you're here during a meal time, so every dinner, lunches when your not in school and here, you can help feed him until he wakes up and can eat by himself?"

"Yeah. Sure. But hopefully he won't be in the coma that long and will wake up real soon."

"Jack, about that. He might not just wake up completely like when he wakes from a normal sleep. He might wake up in stages and it might take some days before he's fully awake and even then he might sleep a lot and not be able to stay awake for long periods. But as time goes on, he'll be able to stay awake for longer each time. But until then he might still be really sleepy and go from waking up for a few seconds to a few minutes before suddenly falling asleep again so it could take days before he's fully awake. And even after he does wake up, there's a chance he might have problems like co ordination, memory, etc. He might even have to re learn a few things but we're all here for him and we'll help him. In time he'll be okay." Jess used her nurse knowledge to make sure Jack understood his dad wouldn't just wake up and be okay and that it would be in stages and take some time and he would still sleep a lot and be really tired. And that even after he woke up, he might have some problems. "It could go from him opening his eyes for a few seconds but not being able to do anything else including speak, before his eyes close, to moving about in his sleep, waking up and being conscious for a few seconds that might take time to extend to a few minutes, before he'd suddenly drop off to sleep or become so tired he can't stay awake and his eyes will close. Given time he'll wake up completely and will be able to stay awake. But he still could have problems after he's woken up from the coma."

"Oh right, but there's a chance he could be okay after he wakes up and there's a chance he won't have any problems after waking up right?" Jack, like most kids, wanted to be optimistic and hopeful.

"Yeah there is a chance, kiddo. A good chance. How about when his doctors come to check on him, they can explain anything more and give you any updates on your dad's condition?"

"When are they coming to see dad Uncle Dave?"

"Well, it's four now, so, about an hour? Then whilst their examining your dad and doing all their assessments, you can eat some dinner with the others. Then when the doctors have finished, you can help feed your dad before you go home with Henry?"

"Okay. Would it be okay if I did my homework in here and would you help me Uncle Spencer, after we move dad around?"

"Course little man, love to."

"Thanks, I'll go get the guys you want. I have to stop off at the bathroom before going next door though, okay?"

"Sure, kiddo. No problem."

"Back in a minute dad. Love you though."

Jack ran out of the room to the bathroom next door. After he'd come out, he went to the room next to his dad's, where everyone was hanging out.

"How's your dad doing little man? We don't like to feel we're crowding his room so we hang out here."

"He's okay. But I need you Jack, you Uncle Matt, you Matt, you Uncle Stephen, you Uncle James, and you Uncle Will to come help move dad about."

"Sure, little man, lead the way."

"Oh and until I say otherwise, guys….. " Jack spoke to everyone in the room "No girls anywhere near dad's room until I say the coast is clear okay? Apparently dad's not wearing underwear….."

"Sure, little man, no problem."

The six requested guys followed Jack to his dad's room next door.

"Aunt Jess, you have to go next door and wait with the other women until I say it's okay, if that's okay?"

"Sure it is Jack. I'll only be right next door Aaron. You need another workout I'm afraid but you'll be okay. And it's for your own good."

After Jess had left the room, all the guys had just started, helping to show Jack exactly what to do, Jack learning quickly and eagerly helping move his dad's body around, when Dr Smith entered.

"Ah, was just coming to start that….hey Agent Hotchner, it's me, Dr Smith again, the head of physical therapy. I see you guys have got everything under control. I'll just observe and be here if you guys need me but looks like your doing a pretty good job so far."

"Thanks. We did it about eleven then about two, so we're trying to get it every roughly two or three hours. Dr Peters and Dr Simpson are coming back to see Aaron in about an hour so we figured we'd do it now. Plus we can show Jack here how we're helping his dad and he can learn how to help us help his dad. He's doing a real good job though already and we've only just started. Oh Dr Smith, meet Jack, Aaron's son and mine and Jess's nephew. Jack this is Dr Smith. He's the head of physical therapy here and is in charge of doing things like this, moving your dad around and helping his body physically whilst he's in a coma. He'll also be helping your dad during and after his broken leg heals as his broken leg will need physical therapy both during and after the healing process."

"Hi, so your one of dad's doctors too? I'm Jack Hotchner, this is my dad."

"Nice to meet you Jack. Heard a lot about you, all good things though. And your doing a superb job there already. I'm here if you need any help or need me to show how to do anything."

"Okay thanks Dr Smith."

They all worked on moving Aaron's upper body around, leaving his waist and below for the second half.

"Hey Jack, buddy, great job on your dad's upper half. Give me five!"

Sean high fived his nephew, who smiled with pride and praise.

"As it's easier to move your dad's left leg without worrying about covering anything, you mind going to wait with everyone else in the other room? That way you and us don't have to worry about you seeing anything your not supposed to. When we've done his left leg, you can come back and help us do the toes on his right foot. We can't move his right leg at all and it has to stay completely immobile but the toes still need moving. In fact, Stephen, why don't you take Jack to go get a soda whilst we move Aaron's left leg about?"

"Okay, Uncle Sean. I am thirsty anyway."

"Come on little man. How about a bag of chips or a bar of candy too? My treat."

"Am I allowed dad? Uncle Sean?"

"As you've done such an awesome job, you deserve a reward buddy. I don't think your dad will mind and he'd agree that you deserve it after all the great work you've just done. I say you can have both the chips and candy if you want it."

"Thanks Uncle Sean. Back soon dad…..Uncle Will, if Henry joined us, could he have either or both and a soda?"

"Sure, he's got plenty of time before bed for the sugar to clear his system. I'll come with you guys and we'll see if Meg, Markayla and Sam want anything. Back soon Aaron."

Will, Stephen and Jack left the room. Sean pulled the screen that went around the bed, just in case so Jack and any of the other kids didn't see Aaron's diaper or anything they shouldn't, and to give Aaron a little privacy as they pulled off the sheet and worked on his left leg to get it moving about.

Whilst they were moving his body about, Aaron, sitting watching the movies with Haley, could feel people moving him about and felt weird but also tired by the end of it. But with Haley with him, he seemed to at least be able to keep going and enjoy watching the movies with the woman he still loved so much. Haley seemed to be giving him a renewed energy and boost and, with her by his side, and not spending all his time trying to fight to get out of that pitch black room, he felt he at least had a chance of returning to his son.
