Question
A silencing charm is very difficult to make. They're used to expel most kinds of supernatural presences. Something old must be used, or dead. Bones are best. Symbols are carved into the item, usually in some way related to the force present. It was a very intricate process. Dipper Pines was in the middle of such a process. He hadn't given much explanation the first time he'd come home from a trip into town with a human skull, and since he'd done it ten times since then, it had become too routine to question.
Dipper found it relaxing as he meticulously carved runes into the new skull, only idly aware of Pacifica's presence on the couch behind him. She had some time away from the studio, and the two were all too content with a relaxing day at home. The silence comfortable, him tending to his skull, her surfing the internet on her laptop.
"I want to have a baby."
And with the silence broken, so too was Dipper's charm, as his hand lurched and punctured a hole in the cranium with the carving tool. "Well, that won't be easy to replace."
Dipper turned to look at his wife if two years to find her staring at her laptop as if the words previously said were just his imagination. But, of course, that would not be the case.
"Well?" She said. She tried to maintain composure, but Dipper could see the red filling her face.
Dipper sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. He assumed the familiar position on the couch, lying down a cross it using Pacifica's lap as a pillow. Out of habit, Pacifica began gently rubbing Dipper's scalp, tangling her hands in his brown curls.
"So. You want to have a baby." Dipper began.
"Yeah."
"This is in consideration of the conversation from when we'd stopped dating."
"Oh, here we go."
"Where I asked if you'd ever want kids, and you said there was no way you'd 'push out a whiny brat until you were long devoid of joy in life.'"
"Dipper, that was years ago."
"I know, but you didn't seem willing to change your mind. I'm just asking if you're sure about this."
Pacifica got quiet. "Yes. I've been thinking about this for a lot longer than you think. I love you, and I want to take this step. And, I guess if I can't help the Northwest family tree, I wouldn't mind making a contribution to the Pines'."
Dipper smiled. With every word, Pacifica's face grew redder and redder. "Keep going. I like seeing you all flustered."
She pouted hard and he just smiled back. "And just why am I on trial here? What about you? If you're not up for this-"
"Hey, woah, hey! I never said anything like that!"
"Then what do you have to say?"
Dipper got a little quiet. "I'm not opposed to the idea…"
"Oh, that was convincing."
"Hey, I haven't really thought about it. You made it pretty clear that kids weren't apart of the plan."
"Well, you've got time now. Mull it over."
Dipper looked back up to Pacifica. Her hand rubbed gentle circle into his head, and her face was soft and kind as she looked down on him. She'd make a great mom.
But how would he fair as a father? In truth Dipper never saw himself as a 'caregiver' type of person. Could he be responsible for a living being's development? What if it didn't like him? What if he could never get time to care for it? What if Mabel opened a portal to a higher plane of existence and never gets to see his child? Okay that's a little far-fetched but still.
These questions tormented his mind, but one thought stayed true.
If ever he wanted a child, he knew that the woman looking down on him would have to be the mother.
"You know what? Let's do it." He said, with perhaps too much enthusiasm.
"What, you mean like now?"
"Well, I'm not opposed to giving the old college try right now, but I meant after doing some preperations."
"Ugh, you perv."
"I have many desires Pacifica. I'm not a little boy anymore."
"No, you most certainly are not." Pacifica scratch gently about the short, fine bristles sprouting from Dipper's face. "You need to shave."
"Later, we're getting off topic. Pacifica Elise Northwest, I would love nothing more than to father a child with you."
Pacifica blushed slightly. "Well then, Mister M-MMMPH!"
Dipper swiftly placed a hand over Pacifica's mouth. "Don't you say it."
She giggled behind his hand and waited for it to withdraw. "Fine. 'Dipper' Pines, I would be honored to have your child."
Dipper grabbed Pacifica and brought her down for a gentle kiss. He could see the smallest sign of tears welling in her eyes. He hoped she wouldn't notice the moisture forming in his.
Dipper relaxed, rubbing his head into Pacifica's lap. Sher smirked. "You gonna give me my legs back?"
"I gotten pretty comfortable, actually. Besides, I don't have a skull to work on anymore."
She rolled her eyes and went back to rubbing Dipper's scalp.
A new chapter begins for Dipper and Pacifica. Only time will tell what it entails.
