January Rain
Chapter 12
Nicole wondered where in the hell was EJ. She had called the DiMera corporate office over an hour ago and EJ's personal assistant had informed her he had left about fifteen minutes before she had called. So he should have been home to be able to help her put Sydney down for the night. But as the minutes ticked on EJ still wasn't anywhere in sight and Sydney was finally asleep even though things went smoother if EJ were present.
It wasn't as if EJ were the better parent, he wasn't she rationalized in her mind, he just had more experience, that is what he kept telling her. Sydney just seemed to accept his comfort better than hers and that hurt given all she had done to bring about having this child in their home. No, not this child, her child, Sydney was her baby.
While Sami coming back home today had shocked her, but that idiot had no clue of what she had orchestrated with the help of Dr. Baker. Yes, it was a deal made with the devil, but she was well schooled in dealing with people of questionable morals. Stefano was her ally and in her corner, he hated Sami as much as she did if not more if that were possible. If and when the time came that she might need his help she would go to him. She was sure Stefano would understand why she had done what she had done. After all she had given EJ his daughter, one that Sami would have kept from him forever if she had her way in the matter.
She had been right to make the trade of babies; although it puzzled her where Sami was keeping what she thought was her daughter. Well she'd find out soon enough she had her ways even if it meant her getting back in touch with Dr. Baker again. So far she had avoided his calls and he had called her several times today.
She looked around in the library, poured herself a tall glass of brandy, took several gulps of the liquid and decided to bite the bullet, as much as she dreaded it she was going to have to call back Dr. Baker. There had to be a reason he was calling her. Although he better not ask her for more money because she had given him plenty, all she had access to and she wouldn't be able to get more.
Well since it was apparent her soon to be husband wasn't around she would call the man who had enabled her to off the biggest rouse she had ever attempted and luckily succeeded. With a shaky hand, she went to the recent calls menu and hit Dr. Baker's number and waited for him to answer.
"Ah so you finally decided to call me back," Dr. Baker's voice was more than a tad bit angry, but Nicole wasn't scared of him.
Well not really, although he didn't have to know she lived in constant fear of her lies being found out by EJ.
"I've been extremely busy," Nicole replied acting as if hearing Dr. Baker's voice wasn't throwing her for a loop. He was supposed to be a distant memory, one that helped her achieve what she had wanted to do, but beyond that their business was finished. She had paid him well, all of her savings were now completely depleted, but that wouldn't matter as soon as she and EJ were married. When she became Mrs. EJ DiMera she'd had access to all the wealth and privileges that came with marrying into the family of one of the biggest mobs, correction organizations in this portion of the country.
"Playing the role of a new mom a bit of a stretch for you?" Dr. Baker asked only to hear Nicole shriek back to him with righteous indignation.
"It's not playing a role, I am Sydney's mother," Nicole stated succinctly.
Dr. Baker chuckled which only added to Nicole's ire, "Listen there has been a change in plans. It seems like I am in need of a few extra dollars than what was originally agreed upon with my delivery fee for bringing you the baby. What was her name again?"
"Sydney," Nicole stressed, "and she's my baby, no one else's!"
"I bet Mr. DiMera would beg to differ, wouldn't he? After all he is truly Sydney's father whereas you are not her mother."
"You shut the hell up now. Sydney is my baby, my baby, you hear?" Nicole claimed vehemently.
"Whoa there missy, you better reign that temper of yours in a bit. I don't think stress could be good for any new mother, do you? Even a faux mother like yourself."
"There is nothing false about me being Sydney's mother and I'm not giving you any more money either. I paid you a king's ransom for that child and you're not getting a penny more," Nicole said with steely resolve in her voice.
"King's ransom, are you freaking kidding me? Please that was just a first installment of what you owe and I expect for you to get me another fifty thousand by tomorrow, small bills please," Dr. Baker stated seriously.
"You're crazy. No way in hell am I giving you another dime, much less fifty thousand dollars."
"Hell freezing over or not, it's up to you. Either you come across with the cash by tomorrow evening say around 7 pm at Pier 13 or we'll see how much your fiancé enjoyed being duped by a two bit charlatan who wasn't even pregnant at all."
"I was pregnant," Nicole began to cry. "You bastard I lost my child!"
"That you did and I'm truly sorry for your loss. Guess if you had told the truth when it happened Mr. DiMera might have understood, but now how do you think he will handle the news of you lying for months on end about still being pregnant when all you were doing was parading around with a big ol' rubber belly from a Peas in a Pod maternity wear store?"
"You're not telling EJ a damn thing!"
"Of course I won't unless you fail to bring me the money and believe me honey if you don't show up I'll just come to your fancy new crib you're calling home and announce the grand news to every member of the DiMera clan."
"You couldn't get pass the guards, they'd never let you in."
"Don't come tomorrow night and you'll see what happens," Dr. Baker warned and then all Nicole heard was a click as the line went dead.
"That fucking bastard," she threw her now empty glass of bourbon against the wall of the fireplace and it shattered instantly on contact.
Within the minute, Harold appeared and opened the door into the library, "Miss Walker is everything ok?"
Nicole snarled, "Just peachy Harold just peachy. Have you seen EJ come in yet?"
"No he hasn't returned home yet from work," Harold replied as he looked toward the fireplace and spied the broken glass.
"Figures," Nicole got up to get a new glass to pour another drink. She didn't know where EJ had stopped off but he sure still wasn't at work.
"Beg your pardon?" Harold asked not quite catching what Nicole was saying under her breath.
"Nothing, just clean up that mess and let me know when EJ arrives."
"As you wish," Harold said and immediately went to begin cleaning the mess Nicole had made with the broken glass. He really wished the occupants of this house weren't in the habit of throwing glasses whenever they had a fit of temper, but so far he was cleaning up at least one if not more such messes each week.
Nicole threw back another drink and went upstairs to her bedroom. She and EJ still were in separate bedrooms due to her story about not wanting to wake him up during the night when Sydney awoke and also to help her get some much needed rest as she recovered from her delivery.
Well tonight would be the night she would inform him that she would be joining him in his bedroom instead. Enough time had went by that she could pass off making him think she had lost all the supposedly baby weight she had gained during the pregnancy.
She yanked off her outfit throwing the bits of clothing all around the room in her anger and then looked at her body in the mirror. Her stomach was a flat as a board and unfortunately her boobs were almost as flat as her abs. They certainly didn't look like they had grown any even during the short time she was actually pregnant.
Well after she was married to EJ she'd get a boob job, she'd have money galore to spend on herself after she was Mrs. DiMera. Only the finest things in life for her as she had given him another heir, not Sami the one who had looked liked the cat had drug her to their front doorstep this morning.
Nicole thought Sami had looked bedraggled even though she had to admit Sami was as small as she was now if not smaller due to her petite frame even though of course her boobs were still bigger than hers would ever be, but that would change soon. She would be built better than Sami Brady ever thought about being, she'd get a personal trainer after recovering from having a breast augmentation and by the time she was finished EJ would never look at that scrawny mess called Sami Brady ever again.
She walked over to her closet and threw open the doors, going throw several lingerie choices with matching robes and finally deciding upon a red silky number with black lace edging. She'd take a nice long bath and then afterwards she'd make EJ see that she was the woman for him, she'd do anything he wanted. She was going to wipe every trace of Sami from his mind.
Starting tonight they would begin sharing a bedroom and she'd fuck EJ any way he wanted her to do and show him a few things she bet he had never even thought of before. EJ DiMera was hers and that pitiful of an excuse of a woman Sami Brady wasn't ever going to get him back from her. She was close to getting it all and that bitch wasn't going to take it from her now.
She'd kill her before she ever sank her claws back into EJ. She was the victor in this game and tonight she'd reap the benefits of it.
