Chapter 12 – No more secrets.
The last couple chapters have been very long, this one is not. I hope you really like it.
NO One's POV
As Jade and Andre walked back to their cars, Jade couldn't help but ask. "What happened after I left?"
Andre shook his head. "A mess. Tori had trouble breathing and was crying, Tori's dad was angry at everyone for upsetting Tori. The nurses and doctors were angry at everyone for making noise. Everyone got kicked out and then we all went to a nearby waiting room. Robbie showed the journal and everyone knew what was going on."
Jade listened and obviously was not pleased by what she heard. "Shit. Tori's probably utterly humiliated and guess who's to blame."
"Well, after the doctors helped Tori, they let her mom in to see her. Tori was extremely upset by your leaving. They had to give her a sedative to calm her down. Tori explained that you were not yelling at her because she was gay, you were just very angry and hurt by her not telling the truth and making her self sick. They talked and Tori's mom explained it all. Naturally Beck felt like an utter shit for hitting you."
"Good. Because my ex-boyfriend and I are going to have a little talk." Growled Jade.
"I think Mr. Vega is still a bit cheesed off at you, so you will need to do some groveling. But Tori wants to see you and they sent me and Robbie out looking for you. I went to the Mall and Nozu and thought of checking up at Cat's Grave."
"I came here to think. I screwed up and needed to think about what I needed to do." Jade said, as she reached her car. "I need to talk to Eric. You can let the others know, I'll be by in a while."
About an hour and a half later Jade arrived at the hospital and headed directly towards the intensive care unit. On her way there she encountered Beck, who was getting a soda from a vending machine.
Beck upon seeing the not very happy looking Jade coming down the hall, knew he needed to face the music. After taking sighing deeply, he stepped forward and began to apologize.
"Jade, I just wanted to say….."
That's he was able to get out before Jade punched him hard as she could, in the stomach. The blow literally knocked the wind out of him and Beck quickly crumpled to the floor. In pain and desperately gasping for breath, he managed to squeak out.
"Andre said you wanted to talk."
Jade, the scowl on her face rather intense, quipped as she stepped over him. "We just did. Apology accepted."
Jade then took the soda he had just paid for out of the machine and walked off.
Arriving in the waiting room, Jade found Andre, Robbie, Rex, Trina and Mr. Vega all sitting around. Andre was first to approach her.
"Beck was out in the hallway. Did you talk with him?"
Jade smirked. "Yes we did, I accepted his apology and he will return as soon as he can pick himself up off the floor. I'm guessing he'll be there for a little while."
She then turned to Robbie and Rex who were sitting feet away and got right in Rex's face. "If you say one single word to Tori that even remotely upsets her, I will fill you with cement and sink you in the ocean. Am I being clear?"
Rex simply shook his head in a rather vigorous fashion.
That dealt with, Jade had come to the difficult part; dealing with Tori's father. She turned around to see Trina and Mr. Vega standing only a few feet away. Trina looked most displeased and had her arms crossed while Mr. Vega simply had a rather stern and critical look to him.
Jade stepped forward and before she could speak, Trina slapped her across the face.
"Trina. Stop that right now. Apologize."
Jade waived her hand. "No. That I deserved. Look Mr. Vega you have every right to be majorly pissed off at me. I found her journal and discovered that I was the object of her affection and her not telling me caused this to happen. That knowledge combined with some of the things I've been going through caused me to react very badly. If I had any inkling that it would have caused her additional problems I never would have done so. Tori is my best friend, she's more than a friend to me and I care for her a lot. She was there for me when Cat died and I will always be in her debt. I would never do anything to hurt her. I'm very sorry."
Mr. Vega took in Jade's apology carefully and critically, but then quickly nodded. "I believe you. I've been lied to by suspects enough times to spot a bullshit apology when I see one. Yours however was sincere. It's a very emotional time and it's far too easy to lose control. I need to ask. Tori obviously feels very strongly for you. While that in itself doesn't bother me, I am concerned how you will deal with that. I don't want Tori hurt any further.
Jade had expected that question. "It's not easy for me to discuss such things, but I need to. To be blunt, I think I can reciprocate her feelings. It's not easy to explain, I'm just becoming of my own feelings. I have to take it slow so neither of us gets hurt. I'd like to see her. I hear she wants to see me."
He nodded his head. "Since the commotion, she's only allowed one visitor at a time. Her mother's been in there with her. You may go in."
Jade was rather surprised that he was so accepting of her apology. It was a huge relief in fact. Though the rather displeased expression on Trina's face hadn't changed; that didn't surprise Jade at all. She knew the elder Vega sister had always hated her, so her reaction was both expected and irrelevant.
"Thank you." Jade said as she turned to go to Tori's room.
Jade got to the room and after taking deep breath she pushed open the door. Inside she found Mrs. Vega sitting in a chair next to the bed, reading a magazine. Tori appeared to be asleep.
Mrs. Vega smiled slightly and got up. "She's asleep."
"Mrs. Vega. I apologized to your husband, but I am sorry. I reacted badly. My own feelings are rather confused at present and all of this just made everything out wrong. I would never do anything to hurt her." Jade whispered.
She nodded. "Tori was very upset you left. She knew you weren't rejecting her. I trust you, just be gentle with her. She's very weak and is feeling very humiliated right now."
"I will."
Holly then put a hand on her shoulder than left.
Alone, Jade turned and sat in the chair next to Tori. She put the soda she had stolen from Beck on a table. Tori looked much as before, only her eyes were closed and she had on an oxygen mask. Jade found herself barely able to stand seeing Tori in such a state. It literally made her heart acke. Alone, Jade let it all sink in and again felt herself choking up.
"I'm sorry Tori. I'm sorry I yelled at you." Jade said as she began to weep. "I was so very hurt by the fact that you didn't tell me. I'm sorry. Please get better."
Too choked up to speak any longer, Jade put her head down on the bed and kept crying.
She cried until she heard a sound, it was barely a whisper. "Jade."
Looking up with a start she could see Tori had woken up. "Tori!"
Tori spoke again, but again it came out as a whisper. "You came back. I heard you crying."
Jade wiped her tears. "I was. I was crying because I was so horrible to you. Everyone knows now because of me. I read your journal and it all overwhelmed me at once. Everything I was feeling just came out all wrong. I'm so sorry. You've always been there for me and I wasn't there for you."
Tori's face fell. "I messed up."
"Tori don't speak. You're too weak. Just let me talk."
Tori nodded.
Feeling the need to Jade took Tori's hand and for a moment a sparkle appeared in Tori's eyes.
Jade, who was still crying continued. "You are my best friend and I know you feel humiliated. Don't be. I was hurt because you like Cat didn't tell me something that hurt you. Cat like you didn't mean to hurt me. I think Cat just wanted to try and lead a normal life, not to mention keep me from worrying. I accept that now. You didn't tell me because you were afraid, is that right? Afraid what I'd say or not be your friend. "
Tori nodded sadly.
Jade leaned in closer. "You don't have to be, you're still my friend. My dearest and best friend."
Still there was a sad look in Tori's eyes that Jade wanted to go away.
"I broke up with Eric today."
That caused the Latina's eyes to open wide.
"WHY?" Said Tori, exerting lots of effort to do so.
"I've been having doubts about the relationship for several weeks. It's more of a restlessness. He's nice, but I don't love him."
Now Tori looked as if she was going to cry.
"I've been thinking more and more about someone else. Someone else that I think I may have feelings for. Feelings I'm only becoming aware of. Someone I'm planning on spending a lot more time with."
A tear ran down Tori's cheek. "Who?"
Jade could see by beating around the bush, she was only making Tori feel worse. She then leaned in and whispered in Tori's ear. "My dearest and best friend."
From the sudden increased beeping on the heart monitor, Jade knew that Tori had realized it was her. Pulling back she looked into the shocked Latina's eyes.
"I'm sorry I didn't figure it out sooner. I think I dated Eric because he reminded me of you. But there is no substitute for you."
Tori began to cry harder, but they were tears of Joy. "You like me?"
"I'd be lying if I said I knew exactly how I felt, so I refrain from saying anything I don't truly feel. But I know three things. Your special, your my best friend and I want to be with you."
Tori began to cry harder. "Jade….Jade…." But she seemed to stop herself.
Jade squeezed Tori's hand. "I know you want to say it. You're dying to say it. We can't hold anything back from each other. I've said how I feel, go ahead." It pained her not to be able to say it back, but Jade promised herself she would be both honest and open with Tori. She also knew that it would do Tori a world of good to finally get this off her chest.
Now sobbing, Tori, looked directly into Jade's eyes and said. "I love you Jade."
Just hearing Tori say that, made Jade's heart tremble. Tremble in a manner that neither Beck nor Eric ever did. It only further convinced her that Tori was the person she wanted to be with.
Jade got up, leaned over the bed and very carefully pulled Tori a tight hug. Jade would hold the sobbing Latina until she succumbed to exhaustion and fell asleep again.
Then ever so gently she eased Tori's head down onto the pillow, sat down, took her hand and then waited.
