"Despite my insistence I see they saw it fit to send you Altavoz, but do not worry, you are dismissed, I shall take control of the situation from this point on."
Everyone turned their heads up to the top of building to see a woman sitting at the edge. The woman was pale-skinned woman with dark purple hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a bright color Homoungi that had no problem showing off her voluptuous figure.
A reply of 'of course Ultear-sama' saw to it that the messengers and guards left. Effortlessly Ultear dropped from the side and landed on the ground. "I have to say that was an interesting fight, it is a shame he could not have been a minutes later."
"Ultear-chan, now I know you're busy with work, but the least you could do is visit your poor old mother every once in a blue moon…" Ultear turned to the speaker, who was none other than her mother Ur.
"Work keeps me busy, you know that Kaa-san," Ultear replied, repressing her urge to let out a groan. There were times Ultear wondered how she was even related to this woman?
"How have you been?"
"As well as can be considering I'm one of the only members who actually worry about making improvements and not maintaining my public image or stroking my own ego." An uncomfortable silence fell between them for a moment after that. "This visit of mine is not a social call I'm afraid. I am here on behalf of the council to discuss requesting Fairy Tail's aid for a steadily growing problem," she turns to face Naruto to continue speaking, "…Which means I need to speak with the master of this guild on private matters of a sensitive issue."
The incident with Lullaby was of course going to spark something.
"I suppose next time both our schedules clear it would present a time for us to catch up." Ultear suggested to Ur whose expression turned into one of hope.
"I would like that."
Naruto smiled lightly at the scene before turning to address the guild.
"Everyone is dismissed for now. I'll continue discussing the plans for the guild on a later date." He said as he gestured Ultear to follow him to his office.
The members began talking among themselves about what just happened. Several of them were surprised that someone so cold was Ur's daughter. The best that some of them ever gotten out of her was that she and her daughter were estranged, and no more of the topic was ever elaborated on.
"That mother of yours, I swear either she's a layabout drunk, a tease, or crazy fierce mage. There's no middle ground with her." With that he took a seat in his chair. "Can I offer you anything?"
Ultear shook her head and answered with a polite no thank you.
"So tell me, are we any closer to breaking Astarte's grip on Jellal?"
"No, I'm afraid not, and her influence is ever growing. The number of cults and dark guilds growing has become rampant. The network she's expanding is centered on the gathering of dark mages and gathering the demons of Zeref. It is my hope that when you come to the meeting those old fools on the council will see that we need assistance in squashing these dark guilds before they become a threat."
Naruto silently agreed with the sentiment. Either way Ultear would continue her assignment and once they were given the go it would be time to start training the fairies until each team was capable of taking on a dark guild on their own.
''All I can tell you is that whoever is using the spell is more advanced in mind magic then myself. The connection is a magical link that can only be severed by two methods. Either the caster gives up control or he dies there is no other alternative."
In other words Jellal would never be safe to be around until they stopped the one casting his spell. Even if he were to be killed and revived, who's to say the caster wouldn't just cast the spell again and just be on guard for another potential attack? If there was no way in truly saving him, he could only hope that Erza would forgive him if the time came for him to make one of those difficult choices. The life of just one person was not worth the life of countless others that would be pulled into the situation.
Once their discussion was over Ultear bid Naruto farewell, making her way back to the capital. That left him time to prepare for tomorrow's meeting.
Before he could make his way to the capital Naruto had one place to stop. "Hey, Hiroshi, its been a long time. Sorry I haven't been around more." Naruto smiled and looked down at a tombstone that had the name Hiroshi Tamashi written on it. "I'm doing the best I can, hunting that woman down, but she is remaining hidden. We'll get her eventually, Marakov-Jiji sure is determined in seeing that happen. I want more than anything to see her dead, to make sure another innocent life is never taken by her hands again, but I've seen far too many times what happen to those that allow their obsession to control them. Being ruled by revenge is one of the last absolute things I can ever allow myself to do. And I know you're probably tired of hearing me ramble on. Mirajane is doing well, she's been keeping the fort down as the barmaid and administrator, not sure if she's told you or not, but I asked her to come back into duty as an active mage." Naruto paused as a look of regret flashed across his face.
Then, it just came crashing the memory of Hiroshi's cold, dead body on the ground, covered in blood.
He clenched his fists tightly. So many of their guild mates had died that day. He should have been there. He let out a sigh to calm his anger down. The only thing he could do was seek justice when the time presented itself to him.
"Naruto-dono?"
Naruto made a noise in surprise at his name being called and turned his head to the right to see Mirajane. He saw the flowers in her hands. He smiled. "Ah, Mira-chan!"
"So you came as well?"
"I wanted to pay my respects today. The dark guild incident dredged up old memories. Also we're alone, none of that dono business." He told her, smiling sadly. Mirajane smiled as well and placed the bouquet of flowers in front of Hiroshi's grave.
"I see." She told him, pulling her hair back behind her ears. She stared at Hiroshi's grave and frowned slightly.
"I'm sorry...Mira-chan..." Mirajane gasped at his apology and looked up at him.
"Why are you apologizing for...Naruto-dono?" She asked.
"For not being there that day. If I had been there none of them would have died. Everyone says in a situation like that you shouldn't blame yourself, but when you are one who actually had enough power to change how the outcome would have been you can't help but blame yourself. I know you cared for him..." His eyes widened when he felt Mirajane wrap her arms around him. She pulled Naruto closer to her in the hug. "M-Mira...chan..."
"Please don't blame yourself...Naruto-kun..." Mirajane told him. Naruto could hear her voice being a little shaky. "Its not your fault. The only regret I have is not speaking about my feelings when I had the chance. Hiroshi-kun was a sweet person who saw the best in everyone and he wouldn't want you to feel guilty over his death. He could have lived, but he chose to stay and fight to protect the guild and everyone he considered family. Such regrets would only cheapen the choice he made that day."
Tears started to fall down her eyes and when Naruto saw this, he pulled her back into the hug. Mirajane couldn't help but let her tears fall from her eyes as they soaked Naruto's shirt.
The two of them stayed like this for a couple of minutes. Mirajane's crying slowly came to a stop. She pulled away from him and wiped any remaining tears from her eyes. Naruto noticed a tear escape from her right eye that she missed and lifted his hand to her face to wipe it away for her. Mirajane blushed at the feeling of his fingers across her face and looked at him. "T-Thank you..." Mirajane answered, her face flushed.
"You eased a burden on my heart Mira-chan, thank you."
'Look after Mira won't you Naruto? She deserves someone strong and brave ya know.' Naruto's expression changed, as if he had tasted something bitter as he recalled the green haired man's last moments. 'Idiot, she didn't want the generic strong and brave fool. She wanted you.'
"Will you be okay?" He asked as Mirajane nodded.
"Yes, thank you. Enjoy your trip, I'll make sure everyone will be back once you make your return." She replied after taking a moment to collect herself."
"I'll see you later, Mira-chan!" Naruto told her as he walked past her. Mirajane looked at Naruto's retreating form.
Maybe, just maybe she was finally ready to move on.
Lucy found herself a bit nervous as she walked into Naruto's office. Seeing as he was away on business that left Ur in charge. From what little Lucy had seen of Ur she seemed rather easy going. Where Mirajane had been as pleasant as Sugar Ur was rather easy going and boisterous. One could easily mistake her as an older distant cousin of Cana seeing how well the two got along.
Per usual Ur was dressed in a bikini top, open plain jacket and black yoga pants. Her style of dress was often very casual considering that some of the coldest of clients had become natural for her so warmer clients always led to her taking measures to cool off. "Lucy-san, have a seat." She was sat in a reclined chair with an empty glass of lemonade on the stand next to her.
Lucy went over and took a seat at the chair opposite or Ur, smoothing out her skirt before sitting down. "I-Is there something you wanted to talk to me about Ur-san?"
The look Ur gave her was a soft pitying look. "Are you sure that Fairy Tail is the guild for you? Maybe…maybe you jumped the gun before you were ready?"
"What! No…I want to be here! I want to be a mage of Fairy Tail. What did I do wrong?" Was she going to get kicked out? What did she do wrong? Lucy could feel herself getting close to being in tears.
"Lucy-san calm down, I didn't mean to upset you." Still this was a discussion that needed to be had. "I asked you these questions because I was going over the reports from the Eisenwald-Lullaby incident and from the accounts you weren't an active combatant. Since this mission ended with a demon of Zeref it was beyond the caliber of a regular S-rank mission and we can't have just any guild member participating in this level of missions, even if there are S-ranked members in the team. " Not to mention the incident regarding Minerva's injuries. "We can't afford to have members of this guild whose actions will put others in danger. Active members in high ranking missions are expected to have a certain level of power, if not they train for it or learn magic to act in a sufficient supporting role. Only once did a guild member have to be banished and I hate to see that happen to you. If Naruto brought you here then it was for a reason."
"How do I do it Ur-san? I don't see how I can become strong like all the others? Ersa-san, Lisanna-san, Gray-san and everyone else is so amazing. My magic doesn't allow me to become strong like all the others." She pointed out as Ur mulled over this fact.
Being a Celestial Spirit mage did in fact make ideas on how to make Lucy stronger a bit tricky. "Let me worry about that. For the time being I would recommend you do a bunch of C-rank missions and expand your portfolio and gain experience. The more missions you do the more you build up your reputation and once you have a sufficient reputation you will start receiving requests for missions. This will also eliminate the likelihood of getting missions that you are ill-equipped to handle or lack the magic for as unfortunately not all clients are accurate in details for the requests they put out all the time. I'll get back to you if I need to inform you of anything else."
"Of course, thank you Ur-san." With that Lucy left the office.
Whatever planned that Naruto was cooking up, Ur could only hope that the Fairies would not only be ready but able to survive the things to come.
