Location: Saltwater Daycare in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, January, 2040

All of the toddlers were gathered around the big circle in the middle of the daycare, with Amanda and Courtney Plunk, sitting up at the front in two rocking chairs, and a new five-year-old girl standing next to them.

"Kids, meet our newest member to the Saltwater Daycare, miss Emily Peaches." Said Amanda, as she pointed to a little girl with chestnut brown hair done up in braids, wearing a dark green dress.

"Hi there." Said Emily with a smile.

"Hi!" Said all of the kids in unison.

"And now kids, since it's a beautiful sunny winter day, it's time to get on your snowsuits, as we're gonna go outside on the playground, for some winter fun!" Said Courtney, as she rounded up all of the toddlers and older kids, and helped everybody get into their snowsuits.

A little while later, all of the kids were outside on the playground, near a set of lockers that were in the process of being painted. Emily, pulled out a beautiful pair of white iceskates with blue polkadots on them, to show all of her new friends. Darin, Melenda, Abbie and Casey, all gathered around Emily, to admire her iceskates, while Courtney kept Keenan bundled beneath a blanket in her arms, to keep him warm.

"What are those?" Darin asked.

"These are iceskates." Emily replied.

"What do you do with them?" Abbie asked.

"You wear them. Iceskates are like rollerskates, only instead of wheels on the bottom, you have runners, and you can move around on the ice, like this." Explained Emily, as she found a smooth sheet of ice nearby to where the toddlers were watching, and put one leg in the air, and started twirling around on one foot in her iceskate, doing one of the more trickier figure skating moves, known to man, surprising all of the toddlers, that such a young five-year-old, could move around on the ice, with such grace and beauty.

"Wow! Those are neat Emily, can we try them?" Darin asked.

"Sure Darin, but iceskating is really hard. You've gots to have good balance to skate." Said Emily.

"I think I'd better stay off of them, those iceskates look kind of scary." Said Melenda with a slight shake in her voice.

"So, you can go anywhere on those iceskates? Like on the moon?" Asked Abbie.

"Or up the stairs?" Darin asked.

"Or over the ocean?" Casey asked.

"No, more like anywhere there's ice on the playground." Replied Emily.

Just then, Rosemary came over to where they were on the playground.

"Pretty nifty iceskates you've got there." Snapped Rosemary.

"What do you mean Rosemary, you don't have iceskates." Said Abbie.

"I could have a pair of iceskates if I wanted, I just don't want any. That's cuz they're such a stupid color." Grumbled Rosemary.

"But white with blue polkadots is your favoritest color." Said Darin.

"That's my old favoritest color, my newest favoritest color is yellow, I hate white with blue polkadots." Replied Rosemary.

Just then, Amanda walked over with some paintbrushes to start working on painting the new lockers.

"Can you kids move over to the other side of the playground? We need some room here to paint the new lockers." Asked Amanda.

"Lockers?" Emily asked with curiosity.

"Yes Emily, we're gonna paint these lockers many bright colors, like green, red, purple and blue, and each locker will be a place to store all of your stuff for me and you!" Explained Amanda.

"Ok, we can do that." Said Emily, but she didn't trust herself to go across the playground wearing her iceskates, so she took them off and put back on her black winter boots.

While she wasn't looking, Rosemary snuck the iceskates away from Emily, and put them on her own feet.

"I'll take these." Shouted Rosemary, as she clumsily made her way across the playground wearing the iceskates, bumping into several toddlers, skidding all over the place.

"Hey! Give me back my iceskates!" Shouted Emily, as she ran after Rosemary, chasing her.

Darin, Abbie and Casey, all ran after Emily, while Melenda found a bush, and hid behind it, peering out every so often, to see what was going on. No sooner had Emily caught up to Rosemary, when she crashed into a tree, cracking one of the runners on Emily's iceskates, flying out of them, and landing face first into a snowbank. She stood up, now covered from head to toe in snow.

"Grrr." Grumbled Rosemary.

"Hey, Rosemary looks like the abdominal snowman." Said Abbie, as all of the toddlers, started laughing.

Just then, Emily discovered her iceskates, and the crack in the runner.

"Hey! You cracked the runner in one of my iceskates! You'll never use my iceskates ever again!" Said Emily in an angry tone of voice.

Just then, Rosemary had brushed all of the snow off of her, muttered something under her breath, and stomped off, away from the group, who was still laughing.

The following day, everybody was once again, playing on the Saltwater Daycare playground, Melenda, now had a balloon in her hand.

"Hi there Melenda, where did you get that balloon?" Emily asked.

"The doctor's office." Melenda replied with a sigh.

"Why did they give you a balloon?" Emily asked.

"After what the doctors do to you, it's the least they can do." Melenda muttered.

"Hey, do you think we could try out your iceskates again?" Darin asked.

"Sure! I put them away in my new locker when it was time to go inside to warm up yesterday." Said Emily, as she went over to her locker, which had a fresh coat of green paint on it.

"Wet paint." Said Emily, as she got some green paint on her hands, while opening the locker, only to peer inside, to find it empty.

"Oh no!" Cried Emily.

"What's wrong Emily?" Darin asked.

"They're gone! My iceskates are gone!" Cried Emily, as she started to burst into tears.

"Call the cops!" Shouted Abbie.

"Call the army!" Added Casey.

"Uh, just, call me when it's all over." Said Melenda.

"Now don't cry Emily, maybe you put your iceskates some place else." Said Darin.

"No, I put them into my locker, like Amanda and Courtney instructed me to do." Said Emily through her tears.

Just then, Rosemary came up to the group, carrying her Cynthia doll and wearing a pair of iceskates that looked identical to Emily's. Everybody gasp at the sight of Rosemary.

"What's the matter? Haven't you guys ever seen iceskates before?" Rosemary asked.

"You did it." Said Emily.

"Did what?" Rosemary asked.

"You stole my iceskates!" Snapped Emily.

"No I didn't." Replied Rosemary.

"Where did you buy them then?" Casey asked.

"My daddy boughted them for me." Rosemary replied.

"Where did he buy them?" Abbie asked.

"I don't know." Rosemary replied.

"She stole them." Abbie and Casey said in unison.

"That's right, and she's gonna have to pay." Said Emily.

"That's right, she'll pay all right." Said Abbie.

"She'll pay through her nose." Casey added.

"I put a dime up my nose once." Melenda confessed.

"So what are we gonna do with her?" Emily asked.

"Rip up her gray Confederate uniform?" Abbie asked.

"Make her eat mud pies?" Casey added.

"Now look guys, we shouldn't do anything we're gonna be sorry for later." Said Darin.

"Sorry? Whoever stole my iceskates they're the one who's gonna be sorry." Said Emily.

"Wait a second Emily, maybe Rosemary is telling the truth." Said Darin.

"Oh yeah? And Darin, since when has Rosemary ever tolded us the truth?" Melenda asked.

"Um… Uh…" Darin stuttered, trying to come up with an answer, only to get nothing.

"See? Rosemary has never been nice to us since the day we were borndid." Said Melenda.

"Oh, I see. Well then, it's time to make her pay the price." Said Emily.

"I don't know Emily, maybe we should just, well, let her go." Said Melenda.

"Ok, we'll let her go, but Cynthia stays!" Said Emily, snatching Cynthia out of Rosemary's hand.

"Hey!" Shouted Rosemary.

"She's gonna go for a little ride." Said Emiily, as she tied Cynthia to the string of Melenda's balloon, and started to let the balloon go.

"But yesterday Rosemary said…" Melenda started to say, before stopping mid sentence.

"Go ahead Melenda, what did Rosemary say?" Emily asked.

"I don't remember." Melenda replied.

"Come on Melenda, you've gots to tell us, it's aportant!" Said Darin.

"Oh all right." Said Melenda with a huge sigh, as her flashback to the previous day began.

"Rosemary had just runned off with Emily's iceskates. You all ran after her but I decided to watch from a safe place." Narrated Melenda, as she hid in the bushes, everything, appearing from Melenda's sight of vision.

Rosemary fell into the snowbank.

"Hey! Rosemary looks like the abdominal snowman." Said Abbie.

"And that's, when I heard her say it." Narrated Melenda.

"You're gonna be sorry Emily." Muttered Rosemary in an angry tone under her breath, as she stomped off away from the toddlers, who were still laughing at her, ending Melenda's flashback.

"She stole them." Said Abbie and Casey in unison again.

"That's right, and now, it's time for her to pay the price. Melenda, it's time." Said Emily, as Melenda started to let the balloon go.

"Wait!" Shouted Darin, as he stopped Melenda, saving the balloon.\

"Now what?" Emily asked.

Darin examined Rosemary's iceskates, to notice there was no crack in the runner.

"The runners, they're not broked." Said Darin.

"Huh?" Said Emily confused.

"Don't you remember? Yesterday when Rosemary tooked your iceskates, she cracked the runner." Explained Darin.

"And that's when you said she'd never wear them again." Added Abbie.

Just then, Emily marched over to Rosemary, where she popped the runner off of one of the iceskates.

"It comes right off." Said Emily, showing the runner to the toddlers, everybody gasping at the sight of this.

"Don't you see? She probably threw away the cracked runner and stole this one from somebody else's pair of iceskates. She's gonna keep steeling till she gets everything she wants. Melenda, it's time." Said Emily, as Melenda started to let go of the balloon again, only to have Darin stop her once again.

"Wait!" Shouted Darin.

"What is it this time?" Emily asked.

"Your hands, they've gots paint on them." Said Darin, noticing some green paint on Emily's hands.

"Yeah you remember Darin, it's from when I went to open up my locker to take the skates out." Said Emily.

"So if Rosemary's hands are clean, then she didn't do it." Said Darin.

"Darin's right!" Said Casey.

"We've gots to look at her hands!" Added Abbie.

Darin went up to Rosemary, who had her hands folded, and pulled them apart, to notice green paint all over her palms and fingertips.

"Now look." Shouted Darin.

"Uh, I was finger painting." Rosemary blerted out, hoping to save herself.

"She did it! She really did it!" Darin said in surprise, examining Rosemary's hands.

"Melenda, let the balloon go." Demanded Emily, as Melenda let the balloon go, sending Cynthia off into orbit.

"Wait!" Cried Rosemary, as she got Melenda to grab the string, saving Cynthia once again.

"I may be mean and I may be a bully, but I'm no iceskate thief. I might crash them into a tree or throw them out a window, but I'd never steel them." Said Rosemary.

"It's too late for talk now Rosemary, you did what you did and there's no way to change it. You've gots to pay the price. Melenda, it's time." Said Emily, as Melenda let go of the balloon, one final time.

"Hey!" Cried Rosemary, as she burst into tears.

"Oh no, what have I done?" Melenda asked.

"You didn't do anything." Replied Emily.

"I didn't?" Melenda asked, confused.

"Nope, Rosemary let go of that balloon. Then she snuck out here on to Saltwater Daycare Playground, broke into my locker and stole my iceskates." Continued Emily.

"Really? I thought Melenda let go of the balloon." Said Abbie.

"Nope, Rosemary did, you just weren't paying attention." Said Casey.

"I feel sorry for you babies." Cried Rosemary.

"What do you mean? You're the one who's doll is floating up in outside space somewhere." Said Casey.

"I feel sorry cuz I only had to lose Cynthia once. You babies will have to live with what you did for the restest of your lives. Emily, I never took your dumb old iceskates. For all I know they could be, could be, sitting over by the bleachers." Said Rosemary, pointing to a set of wooden bleachers on the other side of the playground.

Emily and the other toddlers turned to see a pair of iceskates identical to Rosemary's, sitting over by the bleachers, and like Emily's, one of them had a cracked runner.

"My iceskates!" Emily cried excitedly, as she ran over to the bleachers to find her iceskates.

"But how did they get there?" Melenda asked.

"Amanda or Courtney must have moved them when they were working on painting the lockers." Said Emily.

"But we caught Rosemary green handed of paint." Added Darin.

"I already tolded you, I was finger painting!" Said Rosemary, as she pulled out a picture from her gray confederate uniform, that was of a green heart.

"I made this for you Emily, I felt bad for cracking your runner yesterday." Said Rosemary apologetically, as she handed the painting over to Emily.

"Why didn't you show it before?" Darin asked.

"You guys didn't give me a chance! You were too busy making my life miserable." Said Rosemary, as she sniffled back some tears.

"I'm really sorry Rosemary." Said Emily apologetically, as she went to put an arm around Rosemary, only Rosemary backed away.

"Sorry? You're sorry! Sorry isn't gonna bring Cynthia back from outside space, is it Emily. You got your stupid iceskates back, but I'm never gonna see Cynthia again! She's gone forever and ever and ever and ever and…" Just as Rosemary was going on about losing Cynthia, the balloon came back down, causing Cynthia to bump into the top of Rosemary's head.

"Cynthia!" Cried Rosemary excitedly, as she grabbed Cynthia, and untied her from the balloon.

"How did that happen?" Abbie asked.

"It's a mirable!" Said Melenda.

"Or a low flying arrowplane." Added Casey.

"I'm really glad you gotted Cynthia back, and I'm really really sorry." Said Emily apologetically.

Then, Rosemary started to iceskate towards the other side of the playground.

"Last one to the other side of the playground is a rotton Reptar Junior dinosaur egg." Said Rosemary, as she laughed and got a head start, Emily, following close behind on her iceskates.

"Well, glad that's all over." Said Abbie.

"Yeah!" Added Casey.

"And I think we all learnded a good lesson didn't we?" Darin asked.

"Yeah. Don't let Emily borrow your balloon." Melenda muttered.
