'Claudette darling please do not worry. These things happen. The first dig I was on with Myka I had to drive her to A&E, so things really could be worse.' HG smiled warmly as she helped Claudia get the young Parisian into bed. 'Just take it easy the rest of the day and we will see how you feel in the morning.' Her mothering skills coming to hand Helena tucked the young women tightly into bed and placed a jug of iced water and a glass on the nearby table.

As the Victorian left the room Claudia quickly caught up time traveller in the hallway. 'HG, dude. Thank you for this. I can't help but feel like this is all my fault. I shouldn't have dragged everybody to that cave today.' The red head rested her forehead against the wall and HG planted a friendly arm around the young woman's shoulder.

'Claudia darling, your inherent insistence and impatience is just part of your charm. Don't ever change.' Helena ruffled the red heads hair. 'Don't be glum. What is it you so eloquently say…. 'Shit happens'. Now go look after your girl. I'm going to whizz back now and get the others and when we get back how about we have one of those famous pizza /movie marathon nights you are so fond of?'

Claudia sniffed back a stray tear and forgot about being cool for a second while she wrapped her arms around HG. The writer was like the older sister she had never had. 'That would be really good HG. Thank you…and I'm really sorry again for causing any problems with you and Myka the other day. I really am.'

'Don't fret love. All is well, no harm done.' Helena stoked Claudia's hair then held her back to look into the younger woman's eyes. 'Just remember I am not a complete ogre. You can tell me things you know.' Helena pulled a face and playfully pushed the red head away.

'I know HG. I love you, you know. Not like in gross fancying way though…eww…that gives me shivers.' Claudia shook with exaggeration on the spot.

'Charming!' Helena smiled understanding exactly what the young girl meant. 'I love you too Claudia. You know I've always considered you as part of the family.'

'I know. I'm very grateful. Now go old lady. Go bring your woman back for cheesy goodness and film madness.' Claudia pretended to shoo the writer away.

Helena stood to attention and playfully saluted before turning on the spot and making her leave.

Back on the cliff above the cave Helena pulled up to the nearby pub. After scanning the area she couldn't see any of her crew so figured with Pete around the lure of food and booze would surely have lured them into the warm local establishment.

Running her hand through her hair Helena quickly made her away around the busy Cornish drinking hole. Feeling slightly perplexed her keen ears picked up on the sound of Pete's 'Hey, hey, hey' in the room next door.

'Peter? What in dear lord are you doing?' Helena looked upon her friend in horror. He was bare chested with nothing but an arsenal football scarf around his neck chugging down a yard glass filled with beer.

'HG! You're here! Aww mannn I love England…I love cornwall…I love british football! Hey hey hey!' Pete fell back into the crowd of cheering men on the sofa in front of a large widescreen tv . 'Come join me HG you're gona love this!' Pete looked up at the writer and patted his lap causing a round of wolf whistles from all the other men in the room.

'I highly doubt that Mr Lattimer. If it wouldn't be too much of an inconvenience could kindly point me in the direction of our ladies?' Helena tapped her toe impatiently.

'What? The loo is just behind you HG. Hurry up and come watch this.' Pete jumped up and down like a child as he spoke.

'Peter! I mean Kelly and Myka!' Helena leant down and tugged the lumbering man up by his ear.

'Where are they?' Helena's voice was suddenly filled with urgency.

'Chillax man. They are still down at the beach getting some rays and enjoying the sunshine you crazy chick.' Pete's eyes lolled to the back of his head in a drunken stupor.

'What? It's high tide in ten minutes they should be back up here by now?!' Helena pushed the man aside already heading towards the exit.

'What no it's not…look …' Pete held out his arm, his watch was missing. 'Aw crap that was a gift; It must have slipped off when I bathed in my last pint.'

'Peter if anything has happened to those girls I will never forgive you. Can you not just be an adult for once if your life.' HG stormed out of the room leaving Pete to stumble after her.

Outside Helena ran for the rocks. Easily jumping from stone to stone quickly and precisely the Victorian surged back down to the sandy beach. The sea was already lapping up against the cliff edge. Back on the beach the water was only around the time traveller's ankles when she hit the floor but the large rolling waves were causing the sea level to rise rapidly.

Looking back at the cliff-face Helena worked out she had less than 15 minutes to find Myka and Kelly before their pathway back was completely covered. Closing her eyes tight Helena took a millisecond to breathe calmly. The Victorian had always hated the ocean, many restless nights she had dreamt about gigantic waves crashing her into the rocks separating her from Christina. It was an anxiety thing she had learned to live with. Since Myka though the dreams had subsided, Myka was a calming force in her life she had never experienced before. Myka. Thinking of her lover's name Helena felt adrenaline surge around her veins, she picked up her feet and ran as fast as she could through the frothy water back to the entrance of Merlin's cave.

A meter into the wet walled cavern the water was already chopping at her waist. The writer squinted into the darkness and shouted out as loud she could. 'Myka! Kelly!'

'Helena? My God Helena! Over here! Quickly.' Kelly's voice echoed through the black.

'Kelly?! Where is Myka?' The Victorian fell against a sharp rock as another wave gushed past the stony walls. Managing to keep her grip on the slippery stone Helena forced her tired limbs to keep moving. The constant battle with the drag of the sea was exhausting.

'I'm here! Helena we need help.' Myka's voice came out half choked by water.

'Myka!' Helena lunged forward against the onslaught of water fear rippling through her body.

Finally she got to them. Kelly was pulling at a rock while Myka was half bent over struggling to keep her head above the sea level.

Face streaked with tears Kelly tried her best to explain through short breaths. 'The door….Myka found the door… it was a trap…..now she's stuck! Oh God Helena, what shall we do?'

The instant Helena reached the two women she ran her hands down Myka's body beneath the water to find out what was keeping Myka in place. It was the archaeologist's knee. It was firmly wedged between two large boulders. Helena looked around for anything to help and noted a new gaping hole in the wall, it must have been revealed by the 'secret door' Kelly spoke of.

Helena gripped Myka's face between her hands and looked into her lovers emerald eyes. 'We are going to get out of this my love. I just need you to stay calm.' Leaving a chaste kiss on the American's salty lips Helena got to work with great urgency.

'Kelly, darling. Get into the passageway the sea is getting too rough. I don't want you getting swept under with the current.' Helena reached for her tool belt thanking the Gods she hadn't left it behind at the cottage, and found the tool that Christina referred to as her 'sonic screwdriver'. Apparently it looked like the same device that is owned by a time travelling doctor.

Extending the short device to make a meter long baton Helena dived beneath the water. Opening her eyes in the salty liquid the writer tried unsuccessfully to blink away the stinging. Wedging her feet firmly into the nearest rock Helena hooked her device between the stone and tried with all her might to pry the boulder forward. Nothing.

Resurfacing Helena gasped for breath. The water was now at her chest.

'Helena leave me! You have to go; the water's getting to high.' Myka hit out at her girlfriend pushing her away.

'Myka. I will not leave you.' Helena felt choked but refused to show weakness as tears welled in her fiancés eyes.

'You have Christina to think about baby. Please leave me. I would never forgive myself if anything happened to you.' Myka hit out at Helena's shoulder again trying to make her move.

The Victorian grasped the American's arms to avoid a further punch. 'Myka you look at me. I am not giving up. Stop this. Help me.' The water splashed over their faces and Helena took Myka's lips in her own. For just a moment Helena imagined she stopped time and she had frozen them together in a never ending kiss; her thoughts were quickly roused by another wave this time crashing directly over their heads.

Struggling to keep grip Helena instructed Myka to hold onto her shirt so the waves couldn't drag her back out.

Diving back beneath the frothy water Helena pushed down to the ground pen knife clamped between her teeth. Quickly and carefully Helena cut away the constraints of Myka's boot and jeans. Placing the baton back between the boulders Helena pushed down with strength she never thought possible as the adrenaline pumped into her forearms. Taking one hand from the device she wrapped one arm around Myka's leg and pulled upwards hard. If she could just get the boulder to move a centimetre Myka would be free.

With her lungs desperate for air Helena kept trying again and again to lever the rock, she would not resurface until Myka was out. Quickly her mind thought back through the problem and inspiration hit. Helena couldn't believe she hadn't thought of it before but in her panic she had neglected to follow one of her first rules, 'use her surrounding to her advantage.'

Lungs burning Helena waited for the next wave to hit. She could feel Myka tugging on her shirt desperate for her to re-surface but the time traveller knew she could hold on for at least another 20seconds. As another wave crashed overhead Helena waited for the drag back in the water and pushed the boulder and pulled at Myka with every last bit of strength in her body. With the extra outward force from the sea the rock shifted and Myka's leg came free.

Dashing back up to the surface Helena felt a sharp pain in her lungs as the air rushed back through her wind pipes. Slightly disorientated she grabbed Myka around the waist and swam in the direction of the open passage. Slamming up against the stone Helena pushed Myka up to the waiting Kelly who helped pull the American back onto land.

Once Myka was up Helena felt relief flood her through her. All of a sudden all her body wanted was to rest now that Myka was safe. Losing grip on the wet concrete the Victorian could feel her consciousness slipping when warm long fingers wrapped around her wrists.

'Oh no you don't!' Myka pulled at her girlfriend. 'Wake up Helena! We haven't gotten this far for you to just simply float away. Wake up!' Myka leaned down and slapped her fiancé across her pale cheek.

Black eyes wide with shock Helena regained clarity and kicked her feet against the wall to help the girl's pull her up on the solid ground. Legs feeling like jelly the writer collapsed into the open passageway.

The archaeologist fell to her writer's side and plastered kisses all over the time traveller's face.

'Bloody Hell.' Helena coughed up some sea water. 'I think I've swallowed the entire ocean.' She spluttered again and Myka helped her fiancé to sit up.

'Life with you Miss Bering is never going to be dull is it?' Helena kept her face sombre before bursting into a grin at the sight of Myka's despondent face.

'Come here my love. I wouldn't expect anything less. Adventure is best right?!' Helena kissed the American's forehead.

'Don't tease Helena I thought that was it. I didn't think we'd escape that one' Myka snuggled into her girlfriend bedraggled shirt.

Hugging her fiancé close Helena kissed her girlfriend's curly head of hair and relaxed back into the wall scared to admit for a tenth of a second she thought it had been too.
