It was past 10 pm by the time Ana and Kise got back to the apartment after dinner. Kise has been surprisingly quiet then entire ride back, in fact he's been keeping mum since dinner.
"You're being awfully quiet? Everything alright?" Ana asked, spinning around to face Kise as soon as they entered the apartment.
He shrugged, "Why wouldn't things be alright?"
"Stop playing coy. It's not like you to act like this," Ana said, not unkindly. She walked closer to him, winding her arms around his neck, "Will you tell me?"
He sighed for a moment before looking away and untangling her arms from around his neck at the same time. "I told you everything is fine."
"If this is because of the loss earlier-"
Kise immediately cut her off, "It has nothing to do with our loss earlier. Look, I'm just really tired. I'm going to go grab a shower."
She frowned, watching him walked into the room. Something is definitely up. She thought of prying but decided against it. Whatever it was that he needed to deal with, she'll leave him to it for the time being. She's not going to pretend like he didn't hurt her feelings by shutting her out. And the fact that he pushed her away when she put her arms around him. It stung. He had never in the time that she'd known him treated her so coldly before. She sighed ruminating if she should go into the room. After all, they usually share a room but after what just happened she felt a little awkward. She was still deciding on what to do when her phone's beeping jolted her out of her thoughts.
Are you staying the night in Tokyo? It wasAomine.
Yeah. What's up?
See you at the park near Kise's place in 5.
She sat up abruptly, replying his message.
Are you crazy? I'd like some notice next time.
Are you coming or not?
Fine, fine. See u.
Ana quickly stood up and gather her things. She knew which park Aomine was talking about. She gathered her hair into a ponytail and smoothed her clothes down.
"Hey... Uhh, I'm really sorry for earlier."
She whirled around in surprised at the sound of Kise's voice.
"Oh, yeah. It's not a big deal. I should really learn to keep my nose out of people's business sometimes. There's nothing for you to apologize for," she said dismissively. She wasn't going to tell him she got her feelings hurt like a little girl and how she felt rejected.
"That's not what I mean," he reached one hand out to touch her arms, "I... uh..."
She shrugged his arms away. A very tiny sense of vindication rose in her. "Really. You don't have to explain yourself. Anyway, I'm heading out for a bit to the park downstairs. You don't have to wait up," she said, forcing a smile. She turned to leave and the last thing she saw as the door closes was Kise about to call out to her.
Aomine was sitting down on one of the swings when she arrived. She hurried over next to him, taking the swing next to him.
"So?" Ana asked without looking at him, swinging herself forward.
Aomine kept quiet for a long time. She didn't prod him, they were just swinging side by side in silence. Finally, after what felt like hours, he said, " We've decided to take a break."
She didn't ask who we was. She kept quiet waiting for him to continue.
"After dinner. She wanted to talk and she decided it's better if we go on a temporary break. It doesn't make sense."
He stopped swinging and looked at her. "I... I like you. So shouldn't it feel less shitty that she wants a break?"
His face was it's usual mask of arrogance, but she could see the confusion and hurt lurking underneath. "But you love her. It doesn't change anything. You guys were together for a long time."
"Heh... At least, she did say it was temporary. To sort our feelings out. As usual, she's the one that ends up doing the right thing. I should have done this myself the moment I realize I was attracted to you."
"But it's not all white and black. You still love her. Still want to get back together with her. Right?"
"Definitely," he said solemnly, "But I really, really want to do this as well." He reached over and pulled her swing close to him and kissed her. A soft, tentative kiss. He rested his forehead on hers.
Ana shut her eyes momentarily taking a deep breath. She wanted to reciprocate that kiss. But she knew it would be a big mistake. He clearly loves Lena and he was just infatuated with her. She knew if she gave in now, when, not if, they get back together it would hurt her. She likes him. Not enough to want him all to herself but enough to hurt herself when he decides that he's done with her. She opened her eyes and pulled away from him before smacking him on his head.
"Fuck. You bitch. That hurts. What was that about?" He yelled, rubbing his head.
She laughed. "Serves you right. Do you really think now is the best time to complicate things even more by kissing me?"
"You're lucky anybody even wants to kiss you. Let alone me," he said haughtily, crossing his arms.
She laughed. "Dickwad."
"Sorry."
Before she could ask what for, he pulled her over in a swift motion unto his lap and before she could protest he kissed her again. And again. Her hands pushing him away against his chest slowly changed into pulling him closer to her as he deepened the kiss. He kissed her relentlessly and then kissed her across her jawline then down her neck and on her collarbones. As soon as she begun protesting, he kissed her on the mouth again. It was exhilarating, her heart was thumping wildly and it could it be because he didn't have a girlfriend this time but the lack of guilt made the experience better than the kiss they shared before.
He finally pulled away. "Okay. You can hit me now."
She bit back a smile. "You're an idiot. You need to sort your shit out." She stood up, "I better go soon. Kise's going to be worried"
"Speaking of. He's not very chatty tonight is he? Bummed about losing to me?" He smirked.
She sighed. "I have no idea. He's been acting odd with me too. But I don't really wanna get into that now. Anyway, I'm going. See you around."
"Fine, fine. Let's go."
