Rule# 13 "Distraction is your best friend"

"Time to practice your skills," she announced happily. He groaned and flopped back down. A foot nudged him in the side. "Come on, get up."

He did, slowly, and she sighed.

"Just try and take this from me, 'k?" She held up an oddly shaped rock and then stuffed it in a pocket. With a sigh he stood up and began trying to "steal" the rock. "And this time you actually have to take it, no begging me to give it to you."

"But it works so well," he teased. She scowled at him, blushing slightly.*

By midday he still hadn't gotten the rock, or even come close to grabbing it.

"Ok, take a break."

He flopped on the ground, blowing a strand of hair out of his face and scowling at the sky.

"Not so easy is it?" She asked leaning over him. He grunted and she laughed. "But that's what distraction are for."

He sighed, recognizing her tone, and sure enough she launched into a small explanation.

"Now, when it comes to taking things distractions are your best friend." She stopped in front of him and he quickly looked away from the bug he'd been playing with. She gazed flatly at him, unimpressed with his lack of attention. "Do you remember what I said about practicing?"

"Practice makes perfect," He recited dully.

"Exactly!" She motioned for him to get up. "So time to practice distractions. You're gonna try to distract me long enough to take this from me."

She held up the weirdly shaped rock and stuffed it in her pocket. She gave him a 'come and get me' smirk and he jumped into action. He first tried talking to her, getting her to drop her guard. When that didn't work he got a little more physical, tapping her shoulders, tugging at her hair, even swiping her hat. He got close, closer than he'd ever come before barring using his puppy dog eyes, but still failed to "steal" the rock in the end.

"Not bad, Mi Cielo, not bad." She said as they lay on the ground, panting. His last attempt had come in the form of a tickle attack that had had them both rolling on the ground. "Still needs work though. Oh, yeah, I'm not sure you got the message–"

He rolled his eyes at her teasing tone.

"–so, new rule: distractions are your best friend; better yet, they're a tool you only need to carry around in your head!" He snorted and she elbowed him. "Got it?"

"Got it," he laughed.

Author's Notes:

* It occurred to me this could be taken the wrong way. Yes, she's blushing, but she'd doesn't have a crush on him or anything. She's just embarrassed he was able to trick her into giving him the rock, and that she's a sucker for his puppy dog eyes. No crushing or young love here, sorry!
