Disclaimer-As you know I don't own Resident Evil. That belongs to Capcom. Where as I only own Miles and Amelia. With that out of the way here is Chapter 12 of But A Cat Has Nine Lives.
Carlos never did like hospitals, now he liked them ever less as he scanned the area. Much like many places in Raccoon City the place was a wreck. Blood and bodies littered the area, chairs were overturned, a body lay slumped at the check in desk, upon closer inspection Carlos could see that it was the body of one of the desk clerks, not only that but he could see that she was lucky to have have the misfortune to have come back to life.
Turning away from the body he continued to walk around. When a low moan reached his ears. Looking up Carlos saw a lone zombie wander into his line of sight, but then something leap past the zombie, the zombies head now separated from its body as it dropped to the ground in a pool of its own blood. A large, dark shape loomed over the body before it turned bright yellow eyes on him.
What in the ever loving hell is that? Carlos thought, as he took a few tentative steps back as the strange reptilian creature parted its scaly lips, and let out an earsplitting screech before leaping at him. Sharp, curved claws managed to rake against Carlos' side as he moved out of the way, blood began to trickle down his side as he raced toward the elevator as the creature chased after him. Entering the empty elevator he watched as the creature closed in on him, just as the elevator doors slid shut not before the creature wedged its clawed hand between the doors.
And much to Carlos' dismay as the large creature tried to force its way into the elevator with him. Raising his rifle Carlos fired on it, bullets tearing through its skull, dark maroon splattering on to the already grimy walls of the elevator as it dropped to the ground. Breathing heavily Carlos shoved the body away from him, allowing the elevator doors to slide shut, and the elevator began its descent into the bowels of the hospital. The steady thrum of the elevator motors soothing his frazzled nerves a little. Until a low ding reached his ears as the elevator doors slid open once more. And he was greeted by several zombies.
Opening fire he dropped two of the five zombies before one of the closer zombies grabbed a hold of him, its rotting mouth edging closer and closer to his, exposed throat before he managed to push it away, watching as it dropped to the ground as he brought his foot down on its skull before moving past the last zombie. He needed to conserve his ammunition seeing as he was already running low.
Now where should I go? Carlos thought as he looked around the area. When suddenly he saw something catch his eye, a door labelled data room stood before him. Blinking a few times Carlos looked around once more. Before moving towards the door, and reached for the door knob, as the sound of the gunshot rang out from behind the door, Carlos stood before. Heart thundering in his chest Carlos threw the door open, and looked around, until his eyes settled on the all too familiar figure standing over the prone form of a man before turning to face Carlos. A cold smirk on his face as he looked over his shoulder at him, his gun still trained on the man bleeding on the ground. Who was still very much alive and glaring daggers up at Nicholai, sweat glistening on his dark skin, something clutched tightly in his shaking hands.
"Carlos... how nice to see you again." Nicholai said turning to him, gun now trained on Carlos.
"What are you doing?" Carlos asked, turning his gaze to the wounded man.
Nicholai only smiled. "Oh, him he's one of Umbrella's supervisors, and me... Well..." Nicholai paused, turning his gaze back to the man. "Well, I am here to gather what information he has."
"Why? What would gathering this information gain us in getting out of the city?" Carlos inquired.
Nicholai chuckled as he shook his head at Carlos. "Nothing. After all you and that S.T.A.R.S bitch are going to die here with him." He jerked his head in the other mans direction.
"Why? Who are you working for to turn on your comrades?" Carlos presses, taking a few steps towards Nicholai, anger surging through his body as images of Mikhail and Murphy, and countless other friends flashed through his mind, his hands balling into fists. Growling Carlos raised to strike Nicholai when a pained groan reached them. Making the two of them turn to face the man, as he held something in his grasp, upon closer inspection their blood ran cold when they saw that it was a hand grenade.
Shit!
Carlos thought as he backed away as Nicholai gave him surprised look before-KABOOM! Bright light washed over the two men as Carlos was tossed across the room, where Nicholai despite his initial shock had managed to escape through the window. His ears rang as he slumped against the wall, blood streaming from the gash in his forehead, he could taste the salty tang of blood from his nose as he slowly picked himself up. Wiping at his nose Carlos looked around the room that was now in ruins. Wincing slightly Carlos turned to the bloody mess that had once been the man who had saved him.
"I don't know who you were, pal." Carlos said, crouching down in front of the body, a sad smile on his lips. "But thank you for having my back." Standing up once more something silver glinted in the dim light caught his eye.
Brow furrowed Carlos moved closer, eyes widening as he picked it up and smiled. "This..." Carlos gasped, turning the cylinder over his hands. "The antivirus...looks like Nicholai had left this behind." He mused, as he jammed it into his pocket before heading to the door once more.
Heading towards the elevator and to the first floor.
"Carlos!" Amelia cried out as he stepped out of the elevator, Miles leaning heavily on her.
"You guys you're alive." Carlos sighed, relief washing over him as he moved towards the two of them, his eyes widening when he saw what shape Miles was in. "What happened?" he asked, as he grabbed a hold of Miles, his eyes fixing on the nasty looking gash on his back.
"Some type of creature attacked as when we escaped the clock tower. We came here to get him fixed up." Amelia told him.
Opening his mouth Carlos was about to say something, when a beeping noise reached their ears, making them look left. And felt their blood run cold as they saw a bomb strapped to one of the hospital pillars.
"Shiiit!" Carlos cursed, as he turned to Miles and Amelia. "Run!" He screamed, as he heaved Miles onto his shoulder and grabbed a hold of Amelia's hand, and raced towards the doors. Shouldering the door open the trio raced out of the hospital.
KABOOM!
The ground shook as bits of the building rained down around them.
"Is it just me," Amelia panted. "Or has tonight been just filled with explosion after explosion?"
Carlos nodded at that with a feint laugh escaping bloody lips as he looked up at the burning building. "Yeah, you got a good point, but I guess explosions fit in with all the chaos that's going on." And with that Carlos adjusted Miles on his shoulders before looking around, seeing several zombies lumbering towards them. "We should make our way back to the clock tower." He told them.
"Speaking of which..." Amelia spoke, as she followed after him. "What happened after we ran off?" she asked, her eyes fixed on Carlos' back.
Carlos hesitated, he had waited to tell them, knowing that if he didn't he could end up getting them killed off. And that was the last thing he wanted on his consciousness. "Well, when you guys had taken off we faced off against the Nemesis when... Jill got infected." There he said it,
Silence.
Stopping in his tracks Carlos looked over his shoulder at Amelia, who looked up at him, fear shining in her eyes as she stood there, all blood drained from her face. "W-what do you mean infected?" she asked, her voice a whisper. "What do you mean infected?" she repeated.
Sighing Carlos moved towards Amelia, bending down until they were face to face. "I know that is the last thing you ever wanted to hear. I know you're probably scared after hearing this news but let me show you something." He told her, as he reached into his pocket, and pulled out a silver cylinder and handed it to her.
"W-what is it?" Amelia asked, turning the cylinder over in her hands.
"The antivirus. This will hopefully save Jill." Carlos said, as he held out his hand for the cylinder. Handing it back to him Amelia felt a small sliver of hope begin to form in her chest, as she looked up at Carlos.
"Well then," she said. "We shouldn't waste another moment standing here gabbing."
Nodding Carlos placed the cylinder back in his pocket, and turned away from her. "And besides," Carlos added. "We got medical supplies back at the clock tower so we can fix up poor Miles." He said, as the man groaned softly, and blinked tired eyes at him.
"That..." Miles murmured. "Would be appreciated."
Nodding Carlos continued on, seeing the clock tower in the distance.
Nicholai smirked as he looked up at the smoldering remains of the hospital, before turning away from it as he thought about that young upstart Carlos. A pity he really was a competent soldier, but never less since he had ran into that S.T.A.R.S bitch Carlos had been questioning everything. So this was something that was bound to happen eventually, thought Nicholai had wished he had been the one to put an end to the boys life, but this would do.
But never less all things were going as planned. He had taken out the remaining supervisors, and had obtained the antivirus as well. Grinning to himself he reached into his pocket where he knew the vile was...and...nothing. Nicholai smile ebbed as he searched through his pockets, his once cheerful mood dissipating.
"How could this happen?' he muttered, when he realized that he didn't have the antivirus on him, could he have dropped it in his scramble to escape the building?
Feeling his anger rise Nicholai turned back to the hospital, and let out an enraged scream. No! This wasn't suppose to happen. Gripping his hair, his face flushed red with anger. No this wasn't happening, he was supposed to retrieve the antivirus and be out of this damned city, and he had been careless enough to lose it, and for that someone was going to pay, and unless he was mistaken he knew Jill was still alive, all he had to do was hunt her down, and then he would make her suffer...
Wow, not often I post two chapters so close together. But never less you know the drill don't forget to R/r and this is Black Jack signing off.
