Chapter 12: Plans, Plans, and More Plans

"According to B.A.B.E.L., the child was found unconscious and they were only trying to take care of her, but the mother claims otherwise. The case closed just yesterday with the government organization B.A.B.E.L. being found guilty of kidnapping a minor. Further information is unavailable due to the child's age as a minor. In other news, the recent esper attacks are causing concern for local businesses and many have decided to increase security measures against espers. Here's Sora with mo-" The TV was clicked off abruptly.

The Children, Minamoto, the chief, and Kashiwagi were all gathered together to discuss the recent events. After being convicted of kidnapping, B.A.B.E.L. had lost a lot of credibility with the public. On top of that, they were being blamed for the not being able to stop the recent esper attacks. The situation was looking quite dire. The chief had only just come out of a meeting with their government representative saying he better turn things around quickly or else.

"What are we going to do?" Kaoru asked. She was quite sad to see Haruko go. It was rare to see other level 7 espers and even rarer that one of them was a child. She, and the other children as well, was very excited to add a new member to the team.

"Right now we have to focus on the esper attacks. We know they're linked to Aya. If we can get her, we can get Haruko. We just have to trust that Haruko will be okay. The only way to save Haruko is if we keep a level head and go at this as a team." Minamoto delegated putting the Children's worries at ease. Everyone was still not over losing their temporary teammate especially when she was probably tricked by her mother. He had to keep everyone on track and towards their goal, Haruko. "Now, if we want to win, we have to figure out how to defeat these espers she keeps sending. Any ideas?"

Kashiwagi brought up the footage they had of the fight between the Children and the espers. "I think their strongest asset here is the teleporter. If we want to capture them, we have to prevent them from getting away."

"How are we going to do that? Hatsune couldn't even touch her." Aoi pointed out.

"Maybe we don't have to." Shiho started. All eyes turned to her waiting to hear more. "Perhaps we could just contain her by creating noise. Teleporters can't teleport if there is too much noise such as rain or snow. Perhaps Aoi can lead her into a trap and we create the noise necessary to trap her."

"What about me?! I'll be stuck too!" the teleporter exclaimed not liking the idea of being powerless in such an important battle.

"Simple. Minamoto can be there ready with a limiter. One down. And without their teleporter, the other two's attack will be more straightforward and they won't be able to move around as much." Shiho finished.

Minamoto nodded. This was a good idea. Getting the teleporter out of the picture would make things a lot easier. Unfortunately, there was one big problem. "How are we going to create noise? We can't force it to rain."

"We can't. But Mary Ford can! I'll call the US and see if she is available." Taking his phone out, the chief quickly made his way out of the room.

"Things are starting to look up." Kashiwagi said.

Unknown location…

"…and then he was backed against a wall. Three against one and it looked like it was over. Then out of nowhere, his sister shows up and saves him. Then, they take 'em out together. Bam, bam, kapow. And then, and then-"

"Woah, slow down there, Haruko!" Aya playfully chastised her daughter. The mood here was completely different from the one at B.A.B.E.L. Ever since the court case, Aya has started to reconnect with her daughter and form a better bond than the one they had before.

"But it was amazing!" Haruko insisted. She too was happy with all this time she got to spend with her mother. Since they got back home, her mother had taken more time to play with her and really take an interest in what she did.

*beep*

"Is it time already?"

"Yup, I have to go meet with Sakura and the others, but don't worry I'll be right back." Aya assured getting off the bed. "Oh, but before I forget." She reaches out for Haruko's hand and points to a button on Haruko's limiter. "This here allows you to call me, Sakura, Goro, and Hiro in case you're ever in danger."

"Okay got it."

Aya took her leave and headed down to the corridor to her office. Waiting there for her were the three espers. "So, how are things going?"

"Perfectly. The public is astonished that their government could commit such a crime. Plus, they've started taking matters into their own hands by setting up more security at restaurants, schools, any public space really." Sakura, the teleporter briefly explained.

Aya smiled. Things were going better than she could have imagined. The court case was probably the best thing that had happened to her in quite a while. Not only did it bring her daughter closer to her, but it was helping her to bring down B.A.B.E.L. as well. "Soon the public will force the government to shut down B.A.B.E.L. and that is when we will truly strike. With B.A.B.E.L. out of the way, we can reassert our dominance over normals!"

"Why don't we go help the public make their decision?" Goro suggested.
