Sorry for such a long wait! Thank you to everyone for being so patient! This chapter is a bit of another filler, mostly because I'm trying to figure out how the rest of this plot is going to end! I have a lot to think about.
The next morning, Sam woke up groggily; the room was freezing and the blankets were all pulled to one side of the bed. Dean's side, as a matter of fact. Bastard probably took them all thinking he was funny. Rubbing out the disgusting sleep crust from his eyes, Sam shivered as he reached over to grab some of the blankets. "Don't hog all of them, dude..." the taller muttered, taking his share of the fluffy material and draping it over himself.
Sam's mutters were replied with a whine and Dean immediately burying himself in his brother's chest, "Sammy I cold..."
"Well, I'm cold too. You took all of the blankets."
"...Cause I cold," Dean repeated, thinking that was a good enough justification for Sam almost freezing to death. The heater was on, humming and occasionally making *pi-king* sounds; at least it was working still.
A sudden feeling of an ice pack on Sam's leg made him fully awake and sigh, "Dean, you're feet are freezing. Did you take off your socks?" Feeling the older nod against his chest, Sam found the isolated pair of socks and tugged them back on Dean's feet. "Keep them on, okay? They'll keep you warm."
It wasn't for another hour that Sam finally decided to get out of bed, heading to the bathroom to use the can and brush his teeth. Turning his head as he went to the bedroom doorway, Sam smiled softly and shook his head as he saw Dean wrap himself up in all of the blankets. The older brother sounded miserable, sniffling and coughing still. But at least it wasn't as bad as yesterday.
After using the bathroom, Sam opened the door and called, "Dean! You gotta brush your teeth, dude." His calls were answered with a groan and shuffles, and Sam slathered his own toothbrush in paste before getting to work. Looking in the mirror as he brushed, Sam rolled his eyes as Dean came into view, draped in blankets and frankly looking awful. There were bags under his green eyes and Dean's skin was pale apart from his fever-reddened cheeks. He laid his head on Sam's shoulder and sighed, "Heya, Sammy..."
"Hey, buddy. Let's get your teeth brushed and then we'll head downstairs for breakfast, okay?" Sam replied, after rinsing his mouth out with water and spitting into the sink. Seeing Dean pout at him, Sam just ruffled his brother's messy hair and handed him a spare toothbrush.
Sam dressed into a fresher pair of sweatpants, along with a sweater over the sleep shirt he had. Dean emerged from the bathroom a few minutes later, toothpaste smeared on the side of his mouth. The taller brother wiped away the paste and adjusted Dean's blankets so they wouldn't trip him on the way downstairs.
"Sammy...I tired..." Dean complained as they headed down the stairs to the kitchen, one hand gripping on the railing while the other kept his blankets close to his frame. Why was Sammy making him do all this walking? He was tired and sick!
Reaching the bottom of the stairs and heading to the small kitchen, Sam didn't reply as he read a hastily written note that Bobby left for them:
A bad accident happened in Hartford last night, so I'm gonna be gone for most of the day today. Keep an eye on your brother and don't burn the house down, you hear me? There's food in the fridge and some money on the table if you need anything else.
Feeling Dean peer over his shoulder, Sam read the note aloud to him and then commented, "I don't think we need to go anywhere today, buddy."
Dean nodded his head in agreement and sat down at the table, putting his head in his arms and nuzzling into his blankets. "Can I have toast, Sammy?" the green-eyed man asked, voice muffled from illness and the blankets above him.
"Sure you can," Sam answered, making toast and orange juice for Dean and coffee for himself. He watched as Dean munched on the food, sipping happily at his juice since it was his favorite. Sam remembered when their mom would make homemade tomato soup and grilled cheese whenever they were sick, so maybe Sam could try to make that today for his brother.
Hopefully the house really wouldn't burn down.
