A\N: A very awesome request from seeds123. Hope you and everyone else like it :D
Dick Grayson was no ordinary guy. He was Robin; the protégé to Batman, the only person in the world who could perform a quadruple flip, had friends who were superheroes and could hack any computer with his eyes closed. And even though he was all those things, what he couldn't do was to ask a girl to homecoming.
That girl being his friend slash enemy.
"So, Life." Dick began ever so nonchalantly. His gaze traveled to the magician who stood high up on a wooden ladder, getting something off the bookshelf.
He was sure that only the two of them were in the library.
Biting her bottom lip, Life tried to pull the red book out but it was too far from her reach. "Yeah?" She answered shortly.
Dick took in a silent inhale. "You know it's homecoming this week, right?"
She nodded, not paying him much attention.
The Romani stuffed his hands into his pockets, "And I was thinking about going to the homecoming dance..." He said nervously, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Don't you need a date for that?" Life asked, eyes fixed on the book.
She didn't notice the boy's face flush. "W-well... I was thinking..." Dick stuttered, feeling his cheeks grow hot.
And finally, he collected the courage to ask. "Will you like to go to the homecoming dance with me?"
A yelp escaped the magician's lips as she lost her balance and tripped from the ladder. She wasn't expecting to get caught by the boy before she could hit the floor. "You okay?" Dick asked her.
Ignoring his question, Life blinked. "Did you just ask me to homecoming?" She inquired, bug-eyed.
Dick's cheeks burned an impressive shade of red. "Yeah, so will you?" He hoped she couldn't hear how loud his heart was beating at the moment.
A smirk grew on her lips, "What do you think I should say?" Life grinned, a mischievous glint in her grey eyes.
The worried look he gave made her laugh. "I'd love too." The magician smirked, watching in amusement as his tensed muscles relaxed.
"Thank God!" Dick gave a sigh of relief before mentally slapping himself when she arched an eyebrow.
"Hey Dick?" Life grinned from ear to ear, "Can you put me down now?"
A giggle left her lips when he placed her down, face a deep shade of crimson.
His eyes kept glancing at the clock as his fingers unconsciously tapped on the chair he was sitting on. Dick had started to get quite bored watching the others dancing and enjoying the atmosphere around him.
The Romani was dressed up formally in a black suit with a red-checkered tie.
Frowning, he leaned back into his seat. Life was supposed to be here thirty minutes ago. He was sure that it didn't take long for her to zeta from Star City to Gotham. She did it everyday and always made it in time. So what about today? Had she changed her mind or something? Or maybe she just didn't want to go with him?
He was still brooding when a hand tapped on his shoulder.
Cocking his head to his side, his blue eyes came across a silver grey.
Tossing him a toothy-grin, Life smiled. "Sorry for being late."
Her dress was a creamy-white, hanging loosely from her shoulders and flowing freely down to her ankles. The curly black locks were left cascading down her back, a sparkling bracelet wrapped around her wrist with her lips shimmering a pretty pink.
He knew it was strawberry lipgloss. Actually he didn't, Robin did.
"You look beautiful," Dick breathed in awe. A grin tugged his lips when her cheeks tinted pink at the compliment.
She giggled, "Thanks."
Getting up from the chair, he held out his hand. "Can I have this dance?" He asked smirking.
Life smirked back, tugging a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I'd like that." And she slipped her hand in his.
Pulling her to the dance floor, Dick placed his hands on her waist as the dark magician wrapped her arms around his neck. And before she knew it, they were dancing to the lovely soft music humming in the background.
"You remind me of someone I know." Life murmured, the edges of her dress swaying elegantly with each step.
Dick smiled, "Really? Who?"
Cocking her head up, she looked straight in his eyes before giving out a laugh. "No one. He's just an idiot." Dick thought he knew about him.
Butterflies seemed to swarm in his stomach as she placed her head on his chest and in response, he pulled her even closer to him. He wished it could stay this way forever. He almost wanted to freeze the moment he was living now.
It was kind of funny that a girl Robin hated, was a girl that Dick Grayson was beginning to love. He was going to tell her. Tell her that he was Robin but he was afraid. Not from her anger, but afraid that she might leave him forever. It was a risk but he could take it...
"Dick?"
He looked down at her.
Life smiled and he swore his breath got somewhere stuck in his lungs. "Thanks for being my friend." She said softly.
And he smiled back.
Dick Grayson could take risks. But not now. Maybe some other day but not now.
The moment was too perfect and he was loving each second of it.
