Young Dracula: Extra Outtakes

Carrying on this theme of politics, this is based the same time as the previous but it takes a darker turn. You may notice I always emphasise the Grand High Vampire in my stories, he has a massive part in Choices and will do in Alternatives (Spoilers!).

So carrying on with the theme.

I don't own Young Dracula.

Expectation – based between episodes 12 and 13 of season 2

Having a funeral for the Grand High Vampire was an obvious thing to happen, but the problem was the fact there was a lot of uncertainty whether to have a traditional funeral or not.

The fact that the Grand High Vampire died from a slaying and was already dust complicated things. Usually vampires who were dusted tended not to have a real funeral per say, the remains would be given to family members but with the Grand High Vampire being who he was there was a lot of uncertainty what should happen.

His remains were in a large pottery jar, sat above the fireplace as if it was waiting for something to happen.

After the notice that the clan leaders would be coming to Stokely castle, there had been debate what to do with the remains. They needed to be 'disposed of' because the clan leaders would likely start a fight over the remains.

The idea what to do varied from the next Grand High Vampire having the remains and choosing them to the strange idea of placing the dust in water and bathing the crown of power in it. Which quite frankly was a creepy idea, even for vampires.

Therefore, the Count wanted to sort it out himself before any trouble could brew, and so avoiding a potential conflict.

Vlad stood by the fireplace looking at the jar. Ever since the visit by the Grand High Vampire things hadn't been the same. Ingrid had isolated herself with her boyfriend, likely preparing herself to impress the clan leaders. The Count seemed to be seemed to be deep in thought, probably thinking about his chances of becoming the new Grand high Vampire, and Renfield was doting after him assuring him he would become Grand High Vampire.

Vlad couldn't felt but feel he was being watched, even though no one was in the room. Robin was home, which Vlad felt was because he had decided because the recent events had scared him more than usual. Robin had been totally overwhelmed by the goings ons. Then there was Zoltan who was carrying on with his daily life.

He went forward and picked up the jar. These ashes had once been the most powerful vampire in the world, and now all that was left of him were these ashes.

Vlad had seen some terrible stuff in his life, he was more than aware of how people lived and died. How people could drop dead at any moment, it was something that Vlad had learnt from an early age but he still couldn't help but feel strange knowing the Grand High Vampire was gone, his cousin was gone as well and he would never see them again.

The loss of Boris didn't really affect Vlad all that much, after his transformation Vlad felt that the Boris he knew was dead anyway. All Vlad did was watch his body join him from his perspective.

The loss of the Grand High Vampire on the other hand seemed to be affecting Vlad more than he thought, while the old vampire hadn't really interested with him he felt the weight of his death. He couldn't help but feel it was a result of what he underwent in the Dreamworld, as if what happened there had been mirrored into reality. So now the Grand High Vampire was dead and Vlad was around waiting for the decision of who would be the next Grand High Vampire, knowing full well that he was the Chosen One.

The young vampire picked up the jar and turned it in his hands carefully.

"I'm sorry," Vlad murmured looking down at the simple black jar. "This is my fault. I can't accept the fact I'm the Chosen One. It just doesn't make sense. Now you're dead and all the weight is going to fall on me, people are going to learn who I am. I'll try not to tell them but I can't shake that feeling. I don't deserve the be the Chosen One, I can barely cope with the idea of being a vampire, never mind being Count Dracula, so being the Chosen One that's just..."

Vlad shook his head, feeling completely overwhelmed. "I want to help. To stop the arguments before they start but I don't know what you would want. Where would you like your ashes? What do I do?"

Vlad paused, and did something he would rarely do – think like a vampire. That was the only solution to this problem, if Vlad got rid of the ashes in a vampire way no one would question it.

What happened with vampire remains varied from person to person. Usually once they were dust they would be dumped somewhere in a jar or left somewhere to disappear.

Most vampires wanted to be revered, to show their power. Usually that required some kind of display of their power, but that just wasn't an option in this case. The Grand High Vampire had been tricked and then staked, that in itself made him be a point for ridicule.

There had to be a way to make the Grand High Vampire look better and remembered…

Vlad thought through all the past ways vampire dust had been disposed of, and realised that none of them were made to show how they were becoming part of the world.

"Vladimir? What are you doing at the top of the tower?"

Vlad was at the top of the single tower, looking up to the night sky, cradling the jar in his arms. For once the sky was clear, and the stars were prominent in the sky.

"I'm dealing with your problems, as normal." Vlad sighed, taking the lid off the jar. "The Grand High Vampire's remains are being shrouded in controversy. He was tricked and staked even though he was the most powerful vampire in the world. Now people don't know what to do with him. I think its best I sort this before it all explodes in our faces."

The Count looked at the back of his son's head. Vlad had spoken without looking to his father at all, the Count couldn't help but feel his son was being stubborn and wouldn't change his mind.

"What are you going to do?" The Count asked carefully so as to not push his son.

"Let the ashes into the sky. Go where they will so to speak, become part of the planet. To show that while the Grand High Vampire made questionable decisions and was tricked. He was and will always be part of our world." Vlad paused and gently tipped the ashes over the edge of the tower and watches as the ashes flew up towards the stars.

Vlad felt his father put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'll inform the clan leaders of what you just said… They will accept that explanation." The Count looked down on his son. "Are you alright, Vladimir?"

Vlad shook his head. "Not really, things are changing… and I don't like it."

The Count sighed. "There is nothing either of us can do. What is important is you have risen to the occasion. I wanted you to prove yourself to the clan leaders, but now you already have by dealing with the Grand High Vampire's remains. Well done Vladdy."

Vlad looked up to his father. "Thanks."

Count Dracula looked down on his son. "Come on Vladimir, let's make you presentable for the clan leaders. Then they will see you as what you are."

This also didn't take the turn I expected but it's kind of nice how Vlad starts to come up with solutions for political problems before anyone really knows who he truly is. I think it makes a good start to the Vlad we see in season 3 who is more involved in politics even though the Count is regent, and then in season 4 when Vlad is practically in charge because everyone fears him so much.

Anyway, thank you for reading and please review!
