"And I never saw you coming
And I'll never be the same."
-Taylor Swift (State of Grace)
"But this just doesn't make any sense!" Ava groaned in frustration.
Avalon pondered, "Yeah, why would our parents keep us apart?"
"It doesn't matter!" Maddie exclaimed. "All that matters is that you guys found each other."
The twins stared at each other; both smiling, and then fell into a heartwarming and loving hug.
Ava giggled. "I can't believe it!"
"I know right?!" Avalon added, "I've always wanted a sister."
Ava and Avalon having been only children in their single parent families were never able to experience what it was like to have a sibling. Though now, they've discovered that all along they did have a sibling. The fact just remained unknown to the pair.
"But, now what?" Alexa then asked. "In two days, we all leave, and you two might never get to see each other again!"
Jordan smacked her gently on the head. "Way to ruin a good moment, Lex!" She frowned.
"No, she's right!" Avalon acknowledged. "I just found you! I can't let you go this quick…" The twins had only just discovered that they were, well, twin sisters.
Now, in only a matter of days, they would be separated again.
Grace, who remained silent the whole time, whispered, "I have an idea." All eyes turned to her. She added on, "But, it's a little crazy."
"What is it, Gracie?" Ava curiously questioned.
Nervously, she asked, "Well, what if you guys switch places?" Everyone except Avalon looked at her like she was crazy.
"OH MY GOSH, Gracie," Avalon screeched excitedly. "I swear you are some kind of evil genius or something!"
"Avalon," Ava sighed. "Do you really think that would work?" She doubted the idea; mentally pointing out a few of the plan's flaws. Then again, what kind of plan didn't have flaws?
"Why wouldn't it?" she questioned. "It's perfect! I get to meet my dad, and you get to meet your mom! Then, once they figure it out, they'll have to meet in order to trade us back. And, in the process, they'll fall back in love, get married, and we'll all be one big happy–"
"Whoa, one step at a time!" Gracie interrupted her little ramble. Avalon had gone a little overboard with her burst of excitement.
Ava was thinking about it; maybe this was a good idea after all. She had always wanted to meet her mom. "I'll do it," Ava abruptly blurted out.
"What?" her twin questioned her.
She clarifies to her sister, "I'll switch places."
"O.M.G.! Yay!" Avalon cheered joyfully. Her sister watched her jump up and down. "This is going to be so much fun!"
"Wait, wait, wait," Gracie suddenly said. "You guys are going to have to start working on this A.S.A.P.!"
"What do you mean?" Ava questioned.
"You think you can just switch places without knowing anything about each other?" Gracie answered. "You have to learn each other's favorite foods, personality, and whether you're left or right handed." She continued, "You have to know each other inside and out!" The expression on her face said, 'Duh!' Though, she was right. Twins who had just met can't just simply switch places; no matter how similar they looked.
"Yeah, she's right," Ava agreed. "If we're going to be convincing, we have to know each other better than we know ourselves!"
"Exactly!" Gracie put a grin on her face. "Now, let's start training."
For about an hour and a half, Ava and Avalon shared every detail about themselves; the girls also helping them out by quizzing the twins from time to time.
"Ava," Jordan yelled from her bunk. "Name the three things that Avalon is afraid of."
"Spiders, heights, and bad hair days," Ava answered. She stifled in a giggle from the last answer.
"Good." From a sheet of paper full of info about the pair, Maddie read, "Now Avalon, what is Ava's favorite thing to do with Dad?"
"Easy. Work in the studio," Avalon smoothly stated.
Maddie smiled. "Perfect."
"Ooh, I have one!" Alexa suddenly piped up. "Ava, what is Avalon allergic to?"
"Cauliflower," Ava immediately replied.
Alexa sang happily, "Correct!"
"Alright, I think that's enough for tonight." Avalon concluded while yawning. The feel of sleepiness was taking over her. "I'm exhausted." Everyone else agreed; getting ready for bed. They all climbed into their bunks and drifted off to sleep.
"Hey Avalon," Ava whispered once everyone was asleep. She had noticed that her twin was the only other one still awake.
"What's up?" she responded; facing her twin sister.
In a worried tone, Ava asked, "Do you think this will work?"
"I hope so," Avalon answered hopefully. "I hope so, Ava."
