Chapter 12
"Ally, are you ready to go yet?" I hear Trish ask from downstairs.
I sigh, as I finish applying some lip gloss. "Almost."
Today is the day that we go back to school, and of course it started out badly. I woke up late and I've had to rush around trying to get ready, while everyone else is shouting at me.
"Ally, hurry up, we're going to be late on the first day back, and your first day at this school!" Cassidy shouts.
"I know, I know!" I reply, slipping my shoes on.
It's been a few weeks since Cassidy's change in attitude, and it hasn't changed much since then. She's still acting weird, and Austin and I are still trying to figure out why.
I hurry down the stairs, after grabbing my satchel, and we all start walking out of the door.
We all walk towards the main school building, while everyone talks to eachother. Well, except me. I can't stop feeling nervous about my first day at a brand new school. Even though I've already made new friends and I know my way around the school, it still feels weird and different. I guess I just miss home more than I have since I got here.
Once we get into the school building, we all go our separate ways. Trish offers to help me find my locker, but I insist that I'm fine, and that I can find it on my own.
I wander around the busy hallway, until I finally find my locker. I quickly open my locker, putting some books in there, before I close it and make my way to my first class.
As I walk down the hallway, I see Mrs. Moon hurrying up to me.
"Ally, hi! How are you finding your first day at this school?" she asks me.
"Okay, I guess. I only got here a few minutes ago..." I tell her.
"Oh right. Well, I hope the rest of the day - well, the rest of the year - goes well for you," she says.
"Thanks," I reply.
"Oh, and have you seen Austin?" she questions.
"No, sorry," I answer.
"It's okay. And by the way, I heard that you and Austin are a couple," she tells me.
"What? How?" I ask her.
"Cassidy told me... To be honest, I'm kind of glad that you're the one dating Austin and not her. She has made it quite obvious that she likes Austin, so I thought that she was going to say that she was dating Austin. She's a nice girl, but she just doesn't seem like the type of girl for Austin. He needs someone like you in his life, y'know, someone reliable and who can bring out the best in him," she says.
Before I can reply, the bell rings.
"Uh, well, I better go to class."
"Yes, you don't want to be late on your first day."
"Uh huh. Well, bye," I say, waving quickly as I begin to walk away.
"Bye," I hear her call from behind me, before I hear her footsteps walking in the opposite direction.
I walk to my class, thinking about what Mrs. Moon just said. She seems so happy that Austin and I are a couple, it would upset her if we told her that we aren't actually dating. And why did Cassidy tell her? It's just getting more complicated.
When I get to my first class, I walk into the classroom and take a seat near the window. I look around and see the people in my class. A lot of them are people who I haven't spoken to yet, but a few of them are familiar, like Holly and Dez. I smile at Dez when he looks at me, and he smiles back.
I turn away, and stare out of the window. Today is going to be a long day, I just know it.
At lunch, I decide to eat lunch with the others. If I can actually find them, that is.
I begin walking around the cafeteria, hoping to find someone I know. That's when I see Austin sitting at a table, talking to Dez, Dallas and a few other people. Austin looks at me quickly, and smiles at me. I don't smile back, I just look at him with a serious expression.
He looks confused, before he says something to his friends and stands up, walking over to me.
"What's up?" he asks.
"Did you know that Cassidy told your mum that we're dating?" I ask him in a harsh whisper.
"What? Why did she do that?" he questions.
"I don't know!" I exclaim.
"Why are you so worried about it?"
"Because the more people that know, the more we have to pretend that we're dating. This is getting a bit out of hand now," I reply.
"Don't worry about it. What did my mum say to you?"
"She basically started saying how you need someone like me in your life, and I didn't know what to say. She seems happy, and if she finds out that we're only fake dating, then she might get upset," I say.
"Oh..." is all he says in reply.
I sigh, clearly annoyed. "You're no help."
"Well, what do you want me to do?" he asks me.
"I don't know..." I pause for a second, before I start speaking again, "What if we just pretend to break up? I mean, Cassidy seems fine with us dating, so she might not even like you anymore."
"That's what I thought, but this morning when I got to school I could tell that she was staring at me while I was putting some books into my locker. It was pretty distracting and awkward. Then I looked at her, and she smirked at me, before she walked away," Austin says.
Before I can reply, Cassidy walks past us with a few other people, "Oh, look who it is! Austin and Ally. Aren't they just the cutest couple?!" she exclaims.
I roll my eyes.
"Aw, Ally, don't be like that," Cassidy says, with a clearly fake smile on her face, before she walks away.
I sigh. "I'm just going to go and eat my lunch now."
"Do you want to sit with me?" Austin asks me.
"No, it's okay, I'll see you later," I reply.
"Okay, bye," he says.
I walk away and find a table to sit at. I don't even care whether I have anyone to sit with, I just want to eat my lunch and get the rest of the day over with.
At the end of the day, I walk back to the house on my own.
"Ally!" I hear an all too familiar voice shout from behind me.
I turn around, to see none other than Alyssa running towards me with her friends behind her.
"What?" I ask her, clearly not in the mood to talk to her.
"I'm guessing you didn't have the best first day at school," she says.
"No, I didn't. And let me guess, you did?"
"Yeah! I made loads of new friends," she exclaims.
I roll my eyes. "Typical..."
"What do you mean by that?" she questions.
"You've always been the popular one, so to be honest, I'm not surprised that you've made new friends, it was bound to happen," I state.
"Aw, are you jealous?" she asks with a smirk.
"What? No!" I reply.
"Seems like you are. Anyway, you don't need to be, I mean, have you seen your boyfriend?! I should be the one jealous of you," she says.
"I'm not jealous of you," I tell her, choosing to ignore the 'boyfriend' comment. I'm not a great liar, so getting into a conversation about my fake boyfriend would probably end up in me accidentally revealing that Austin and I are actually fake dating.
"Whatever," she says.
"Look, if you have nothing else to say, then I'm just going to go."
"Okay, well, bye."
"Bye." I walk back to the house, glad that the first day of school is over with. I just hope tomorrow isn't as bad.
Hope you liked this chapter:-)
