Chocolate eyes fling open at the sound of a sweet holiday tune playing from her phone, which buzzes beside her empty mug on the bedside table.

Feeling sleepy and not ready to wake up, the blonde rolls over and rests her head snuggly on her pillow letting out a breathe of relaxation as she does so.

Oh there's no place like home for the holidays~

Why was there Christmas music playing?

The blonde wonders, feeling disoriented. Rubbing her eyes with her hands, she sits up and takes her phone in her hand. Clicking the snooze option, she throws the phone down and collapses in her bed once more.

Why am I up at 6 am?

She thinks to herself, trying to figure out if there was something important going on today. With nothing coming to mind, she simply shrugs it off and hides under the covers, curling up and closing her heavy lids.

Just as she's about to drift to sleep something in her mind clicks.

Shooting up from her bed in a rush, Lucy's foot gets wrapped up in the sheets and she tumbles to the floor.

"Wahhh~" Squealing, the blonde lands right on her face, her bed sheets floating on top of her like a blanket.

Moaning, she rolls out from under the sheets and hurriedly stands up, flinging her door open and tiptoeing down the stairs.

The stairs creak as Lucy holds her breath and tries to be as quiet as possible not to wake her parents.

Making her grand and very slow decent down the stairs, she flies into the living room to see the colorful and lit up tree with presents littering the bottom. The stocking hanging on the white fireplace are practically overflowing.

Lucy feels her heart swell inside of her chest, and small tears fill her chocolate colored eyes.

She would never remember what Christmas was like when she was a child, but looking at the tree, the presents, the family photos littering the fireplace, she can imagine just how her younger self would react to all of this.

A loud gust of wind shakes her thoughts and she shivers, noticing that the window is slightly cracked open. Rubbing her palms against her arms, she rushes to the window and shuts it tight.

Looking out she notices the snow is coming down hard. White seems to be consuming the once colorful neighborhood, but it seems that not all color is lost because a certain blob of pink catches her eye.

"That idiot…" She mutters to herself as she watches him climb into his car and drive out of the driveway, speeding down the road.

Just where could Natsu be going…doesn't he want to spend Christmas morning with his family?

Lucy decides to discard the thoughts, and instead heads to the kitchen to begin breakfast.

Even after picking out the ingredients and softly humming carols while she stirs the pancake mix, her mind still seems to wander off to the rosette.

And this unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach that screams something wasn't right.

Shaking her head vigorously the blonde pushes the thoughts aside, convincing herself that she must be hungry and slightly sleep deprived.

He just went out for a morning drive…

Nothing will go wrong.

xXx

It was coming down hard, the thick snow blinding his vision of the road, but he refused to stop driving. He didn't even know where he was going, all he knew was that he could think when he was driving, and he needed to think

Christmas.

The holiday put a sour taste in his mouth.

He used to love Christmas, it was a time when him and his father would decorate, sing carols to annoy the neighbors, and just spend time together. Even with his adoptive father he managed to do some of those things…and with Lucy there wasn't a moment where he didn't enjoy Christmas.

Feeling the hot tears of frustration burning his eyes and streaming down his cheeks, Natsu slams his palms on the wheel of his car.

Why did things have to be so complicated?

If only she could remember, he hoped that after they'd shared a kiss all of the memories would have come flooding back.

Was he being selfish? Quite possibly yes, but he needed her. She was like oxygen to his lungs, the one thing he craved more than anything. She made him feel whole and those two years of completely avoiding her had been hell for him.

He had prayed that after getting to know him she'd wake up the part of her brain that had forgotten everything.

That had forgotten him.

But, life isn't a freaking Disney movie.

Suddenly, the car slides and before Natsu can realize what's happening his body jerks forwards, the sounds of shattering glass echoing throughout the silent snowy road.

He lands with a thud, his body motionless and his head fuzzy.

There's an overpowering stench of blood and gasoline.

Unconsciousness is tugging at him, and his eyelids slowly creep close.

The last thing he sees is pure white snow falling gently around him,

And the concerned face of…

"Lu…cy?"

xXx

"He's not breathing!"

"Move please someone get him a room!"

"Patient has blood filling in his lungs we need to-"

"We need to operate as soon as possible!"

The doors to the emergency section of the hospital slam close, and a large sign that reads:

FAMILY ONLY

Gasping for air as the blonde reaches the large doors, she collapses and sobs into her own hands. She watches through the glass doors as her friend (lover?) is carried into a room on a hospital gurney with doctors shouting things that cause her heart to drop.

When she had finally decided that the rough and uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach wasn't going away even after she took a lick of the sweet raw batter, she knew something was wrong.

FLASHBACK

Setting the large bowl down, and throwing her wooden spoon into the sink the blonde strips of her pink apron and heads for the garage. Grabbing her keys from the kitchen counter, she rips out a sticky note that hangs on the fridge and scribbles down that she'll be back in fifteen minutes.

In case her parents wake up…most likely not.

Getting into her car she shivers realizing that it's cold, and grabs a sweater that's lying in the backseat. She drapes it over her shoulders and starts the engine.

As she drives she realizes that the snow is coming down even harder than earlier, and so she's forced to slow down.

Not able to see anything, the blonde squints trying to make out anything in the white of the snow, and her eyes widen when she takes a turn left onto the road leading to the park.

A car was completely damaged, rammed into a few trees; it seemed like a scene taken from an action movie.

Lucy's heart drops and, being the good-natured girl that she is, runs out of her car ignoring the unbearable cold that freezes her body through her pajamas.

"Oh my goodness." She gasps, raising a palm to her mouth.

Spread out before her is none other than Natsu Dragneel. He is lying, almost lifeless, in the snow as a pool of blood covers him. His head is cracked, blood oozing quickly from the open wound, and there are glass shards blanketing him.

She looks to the car and notices that the front window is completely shattered.

"Natsu, hang in there hey keep your eyes open!" She yells in panic noticing his eyes are turning blank and he's struggling to keep them open.

The blonde bends down and takes off the sweater she is wearing. Ignoring the intense cold coursing through her body, she wraps the sweatshirt around the wound in his head to try and reduce the bleeding.

"Lu…cy?" Natsu croaks.

Lucy's heart breaks at the sound of his feeble and broken voice.

"I'm right here Natsu, you're going to be okay." She says gently, smiling warmly towards him. Although she trembles and her lips quivers slightly, completely not trusting her own words because quite frankly she believes that everything is far from okay.

He doesn't respond, but instead closes his eyes.

The panic kicks in once she sees him close his eyes and all of the worst-case scenarios flood her mind.

The blonde runs back to her car, grabs her cellphone, and dials 911.

Her heart drops when she watches him being taken into an ambulance.

And her heart breaks when the doctors give her a fake smile that everything was going to be okay.

Because, everything was far from okay.

And the worst part was,

She could do nothing to help.

Absolutely,

Nothing.

END OF FLASHBACK

And now sitting on the cold tiled floor of the hospital, the blonde shakes and cries like a child.

What if he doesn't…make it?

The thought causes the blonde to sob even harder, choking for air as she feels herself crumble.

Was this how Natsu felt when she got in an accident two years ago?

"Hey, hey everything's going to be okay." A soft voice says, someone gripping her shoulder gently.

Lucy looks up through tear filled eyes and notices that it's a sweet looking nurse with a soft and caring smile on her lips.

The blonde shakes her head.

"But..but…what if…what if…" She can't finish and breaks out in tears.

The nurse pats her back, rubbing soothing circles and whispering soft words.

"LUCY!" Distant voices yell, and her parents burst through the doors rushing to her side and embracing her.

But, Lucy can't focus on anything happening around her. Her ears won't listen, and the world around her turns fuzzy. It's like nothing around her matters anymore, the only thing that matters is…

Him.

All she can focus on his him.

Maybe if she had remembered him things would have never ended up this way? He would probably be at her house right now, and they would be baking cookies or doing something holiday related.

Why can't I just remember?

All my memory loss did is keep everyone I loved in constant pain.

"I just…I just want to…remember."

And as the words leave her lips, it's as if all breathing has escaped her and her lungs crumble into a pit of nothing.

Her body trembles one last time, the faces of her parent's becoming fuzzy as their lips move frantically, and the last thing she remembers is falling, falling into a pit of…

White.

xXx

Feeling consciousness creep back into his system, the rosette lifts his heavy lids to be greeted with the distasteful sight of a dark hospital room.

It seemed that the sun was just about to set and dusk was setting in.

The disgusting taste in his mouth, and the ache in his legs indicate that he's been out for a couple of days now.

Immediately feeling the throbbing pain in his head, he winces before exhaling loudly.

The memories of what happened flood his memory.

He got in a car accident because he was too focused on his thoughts.

Cursing himself silently for being such a fool, he doesn't notice the door open until onyx meets chocolate.

His eyes widen as he sees her and feels a rollercoaster of emotions stir inside of him.

"Did I wake you?" She asks quietly, closing the door quietly before leaning against it and staring at him with a soft expression.

Natsu shakes his head slowly, not fully trusting his voice.

He couldn't believe that this blonde, despite their complicated circumstances, still managed to wedge her way into his heart and cause it to do somersaults every time his eyes would lie on her.

As much as he tried to get over her, to forget their epic love, he never could.

"How are you feeling?" Lucy asks, scuffing her foot against the floor awkwardly as the silence only thickens.

"You were there, weren't you?" Natsu asks dryly, his throat feeling constricted as the words choke out of him.

She looks at him with a confused expression.

"You were the one who found me, right?"

The blonde nods her head slowly, feeling her eyes burn with unshed tears the feeling of agony pushing into her heart. That same feeling she had when she had found him lying on the side of the road.

Beaten, bruised, half dead.

"You scared me Natsu." She confesses, her voice tiny, fragile.

The rosette closes his eyes and breathes in deeply.

How much he hates to hear her scared, to know that he caused her to feel that way.

"I'm sorry Luce, I should have been more careful."

"Yes you should have! Did you just happen to miss the amount of snow that was falling when you looked out your window, or the fact that the roads were going to be slippery?" She hisses and Natsu only laughs.

Lucy stops fuming and stares skeptically at the rosette.

"What's so funny?" She asks, folding her arms over her chest.

"It's just…erm it's cute when you act all worried is all." Natsu confesses, feeling a glowing shade of red illuminate his cheeks, as they burn hot.

Lucy's cheeks dust pink and she stutters for words.

"Do you think you'll ever remember?" Natsu asks, breaking the silence.

A sad smile forms on the blonde's features.

"I actually, I tried to remember…you know letting go of that fear where if I'll remember I'll be disappointed. But, nothing changed." The blonde says sadly, walking over so that she's standing just in front of Natsu's bed.

"Lucy it's okay it was a stupid question."

"No, it wasn't. I can understand why you want me to remember. How could a relationship between us possibly work?"

"Don't say that, it can work we can try..."

"How Natsu? You're obviously still attached to the old me, the me that I can't even remember! Gosh I'm so pathetic! How can I not remember myself, my own memories!" The blonde fumes; feeling hot tears of frustration prick the corners of her eyes.

"Luce-"

"Everyone wants me to remember. You, my parents, even I want to remember but I can't! I. Just. Can't." The blonde says harshly, before muttering something else under her breath that's inaudible and collapsing on the floor.

Her shoulders tremble and she breaks out into sobs.

Looking at Lucy, his Lucy, trembling and acting so vulnerable as she sobs into her own hands Natsu ignores the throbbing in his head and the ache in his muscles as he forces himself to stand.

Feeling shaky at and almost falling face first, he regains balance and walks over to the blonde before crouching down and wrapping his strong arms around her fragile form.

"Hey, it's okay." He whispers softly into her hair, rubbing small circles against her back.

She grabs the front of his hospital gown, crumpling the fabric weakly with her fingers. The blonde sobs into his chest, and he lets her.

"You're right. I am still in love with the old you, at least I was until I met you again back on campus. That first time when we talked and you walked into the café I was working at I realized that you'd changed. You smiled more, you achieved your goals, and you were different, happier."

A smile spreads across the rosette's lips as he continues speaking.

"The more I realized you'd changed the more I'd begun to accept you, the new you so to speak. And before I realized I had fallen in love with you all over again."

At those words Lucy's heart thumps wildly in her chest and she feels her cheeks turn a thousand shades of red.

"So you can cross me off that list of trying to get you to remember because all I want is new memories with you."

The blonde pulls away to get a better look at Natsu.

His cheeks are dusted red, even in the dusk light she notices, and there's a toothy smile plastered on his handsome face.

A smile that sets a nostalgic feeling in the pit of her stomach.

"Natsu…" She breathes, feeling her lips curve up into a smile of her own.

"Thank you, Lucy." He says, moving in at such a speed that Lucy blinks and he's centimeters from her face.

Their noses rub against each other's and Lucy's cheeks feel as if they're on fire.

"Just kiss me already." She mutters embarrassed by the closeness of their faces and grabs the front of his shirt pulling his lips against hers.

Natsu smiles against her lips at her incredible cuteness and a low husky chuckle erupts from the bottom of his throat.

"That was so cute it was funny." Natsu says huskily against her lips, and she feels her cheeks flame even more if that was possible.

To be honest, Lucy felt as if she was about to explode.

Maybe she wouldn't admit it to him today, or tomorrow, but she definitely

And she means definitely

Is falling in love with Natsu Dragneel.

Until next chapter, toodles~
