Mackenzie Michaelson

Chapter 10 ~ Thanksgiving Gone to Hell Part 2

I DO NOT OWN THE VAMPIRE DAIRES!

"Oh really?!" Shit was about to get real. "At least I didn't leave my kids. Oh yeah, that's you."

And in that moment, all hell broke loose.

In my lifetime I had seen many things, however, I had never seen my father so angry before in my life. Then again you know what they say, the truth hurts. And I bet so did Damon's face because my father literally flung himself at him. It really all happened so quick. I stood up immediately as did everyone else.

Oh shit. It was about to go down.

I watched with my mouth open as the two men rolled around on the floor punching one another. I got to my feet watching along with Erik, Kylie and Grace. It seemed like at least a good minute before any of the older people, or adults did anything. It seemed like they finally registered that two grown ass men were rolling around on the floor fighting. Autumn, always responsible had Mason on one hip and Amelia on the other as she took the two toddlers out of the room. Jason and Mason were watching the fight until their mother warded them off. Following Jason and Mason was Liz. Good. I mean it wasn't like she would be able to do anything anyways. This was the supernatural that we were dealing with here. Us teens just watched I was sure even if the adults tried to get us to leave we wouldn't. They knew better than that.

Quickly my uncles and Stefan were trying to pull them apart. "Niklaus get off of him," I could hear uncle Elijah say at the same time aunt Bonnie screamed, "DAMON, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING!"

The way the two were rolling around on the floor might have been more comical if it were a school fight or something. I mean I was amused in way however the way the two were throwing punches was just bat shit crazy. I could tell dad was pissed but still Damon did speak the truth and I was sure everyone knew it. Especially Caroline. My eyes wandered up and I was met with her big blue eyes. They held, sorrow. I raised my eyebrows slightly before looking away. Just because we had a moment and all didn't mean much.

"Ten bucks on dad," Erik muttered. I laughed seeing Uncle Elijah glare at him but I couldn't help but laugh, however Kylie didn't find it so funny as she responded, "Shut up Erik."

"Trouble in paradise?" I asked curiously. Erik and Kylie both gave me a look but each blushed and refused to look at one another. Definitely something there. I didn't usually meddle in relationships but I was sure...no positive that this one would last. Grace however, who was still watching much to my surprise, curled up her lip. Ah, she must have noticed the lovers quirrel as well. Maybe I could get her to help me get them together.

It seemed the adults were finally able to separate the two fighting adults.

"Get out of my house Salvatore or I will rip your heart out." My father roared. He had a slight bloody lip, probably caused by a cut or something but for the most part he was unscathed.

"Always the same threats," Damon spoke nonchalantely "Your just mad because you know everything I said was true. Hell, everyone in this room knows it."

"Damon let's go," Bonnie grabbed her husbands arm and was trying to lead him out of the room however it didn't seem like Damon was having it.

"No. You know what you gave me hell for what I did and yeah I deserve it but I don't understand how you idiots praise him when he left two of his kids with his brother!" Damon spat before glaring full on at uncle Elijah. "Especially you. Your all about family honor don't you think you should have said something to your brother."

"Mr. Salvatore," I made a noise and rolled my eyes. I didn't understand why he always had to be so damn proper and shit. Just say Damon. "I believe if the past is something you would like to discuss then we can have a private conversation, however the children will not be here." He gestured towards my brother, Kylie, Grace and myself.

I scoffed muttering, "Children."

"Pre-teens then." Uncle Elijah corrected and I noticed him give a short smile before turning his face back to Damon. "Anyways this is not a conversation that we are about to have at the moment."

"Why? You and I all know that Mackenzie and Erik are not stupid. They know that there father left them for another women. Even if they act like they don't care I am sure they do."

"So you making out with Elena isn't leaving your wife for another women? Just wondering dad?" Kylie said looking him in the eye. Regret crossed his expression and I truly felt bad for Damon in that moment but he did it to himself. Men.

"We are not having this conversation here," Bonnie interjected at the same time Grace was saying, "Shut up Kylie. You can't judge him and not even let him explain himself."

"I don't need him to explain anything to me," Kylie said darkly.

I was so glad Amelia was a toddler. If she were older and we got into arguments like this...ugh. I don't know how I would last. Sister arguments. Kylie and Grace made the arguments Erik and I would get into look like nothing.

"ENOUGH GIRLS!"

"Just admit it Klaus. You don't love Mackenzie and Erik like you do Jason, Mason and Amelia. We all know why. Caroline isn't there mother." In that moment Damon turned his head towards my brother and I, I was wondering why my father hadn't lunged at him yet. "Let's face it kids, if your mother wasn't just one of his quick fucks then you'd have a place in his heart."

I didn't even watch as my dad attacked Damon again and everyone tried to break it up. My eyes searched for Caroline. Our eye locked. Regret and sorrow filled her eyes. She opened her mouth but I chose that moment to leave the room. There was nothing else that I needed or wanted to hear. Actually I just wanted to get the hell out of there. I wasn't sure if anyone followed me out and I didn't care. I just headed up the stairs to where everyone else was. Autumn gave a small smile as she rocked a crying Mason gently. Meils ran up to my leg and I held her attaching her to my hip. The persons gaze that really caught me though was, Liz. She looked sympathetic. I turned away. I didn't need her pity or anyone elses really.

"Go tell your father goodbye." I walked off to tell my father goodbye wondering where he was considering I couldn't find him anywhere downstairs, well at least not until I finally asked Caroline where he was and she told me upstairs in his art room. I bit my lip the whole way there. It was not big secret that my father was an artist, I mean I knew that's where I got the interest in art from, however I had never been in his art room before. Once I was outside of the room I just stood there for awhile not really knowing what to do. I finally just opened the door after a few minutes.

"I was wondering when you were just going to come in. I see the trait of knocking didn't find it's way to you."

"Let's be honest you could care less whether I knocked or not." I responded to my father's comment and he just laughed.

"Very true," he turned around so I could see his face. So awkward. We had a stare down before I finally decided to actually say something. "I just wanted to say bye considering we were leaving."

"So you came all the way here just to tell me goodbye?"

"Well there wasn't much else I had to say to you," I said harshly. "Yeah, pretty much that is what I came to say. Why do you have something to say to me?" I wondered.

"No."

"Alright then. Goodbye." I started towards the door. "Mackenzie," I stopped and slowly turned. "Is what he said true? Do you hate me?"

Why couldn't he ask Erik this question? Why was it always me who had to answer the damn hard questions. Well all knew Erik was smarter then me. Not like it had much to do with anything but he would have a better answer for someone.

"I want to, badly. I try to. But I can't bring myself to hate you. No matter what you have done whether I like it or not but most likely not you are still my father. Even with my snarky and sarcastic attitude you do mean something to me.". Do you

"What Damon said..." he started before stopping. "He shouldn't have said that."

"Well it is Damon so I don't know what you expect. He could have said more." I shuddered at the thought.

"I love all of my children Mackenzie." My father rushed the words out. "I only wish for the well being of you all."

"I'm sure you do love all of your children." I wasn't sure why I didn't just say "us." "However maybe you should prove it and spend time with them and act like you care."

"I do care."

"Well then prove it. Your oldest son has an important football game coming up soon. It would mean a lot to him if his father was able to make it and was able to see him make a touchdown."

"And a father's eldest daughter." I was caught off guard. "What would mean a lot to her?"

What would mean a lot to me?

"She will think of something." I spoke honestly. "Baby steps."

"Baby steps," he repeated.

I nodded but more to myself. "Well good night."

I was sitting on my bed reading a book when I heard a knock on the door.

"Come on in." I paused before speaking again, "Unless it's Uncle Kol I am not in the mood for whatever you want." I said quickly.

There was a chuckle before the door opened. Uncle Elijah. "No. Just me."

"Come on in," I scooted over on my bed and patted an empty space next to me before putting my book down. Uncle Elijah sat in the space I patted for him and smiled at me warmly. "Divergent. Is it good?"

I shrugged. "Not sure I am just starting it but the reviews were pretty good and Kylie loved it."

"Ah. Well I would like to apologize for what happened today. It was very irresponsible and should not have happened around you non adults." I couldn't help but laugh. I knew he wanted to say children, and we both knew if that's what came out of his mouth I would end up correcting him and go into a spiel about how I was a teenager.

"It's fine. It was kind of funny seeing dad whoop someone's ass." I spoke without thinking.

"Language Mackenzie. You know in my day it was not attractive to hear that type of language come out of a women's mouth."

"Let's be honest your day was a long time ago." I waited for Uncle Elijah's response but it didn't come. Well he was going to respond however someone beat him too it saying, "That it was." Oh great. Of course Uncle Kol took this moment to come inside of my room.

"What do you want?" I asked annoyed. Uncle Elijah just looked at his younger brother.

"Ah, my niece doesn't want to have a chat with me?"

"Not really. Go and annoy Erik."

"He's not as much fun as you."

"I resent that." Erik spoke following Kol into my room.

When did this become a crowd Mackenzie's room fest?

"It's so fun to get her all wired up," Kol told my brother. "She's a feisty little thing."

"I am your niece!"

"That you are and a feisty little thing."

I grabbed a pillow and threw it right towards his head but he dunked and in that moment it hit Erik in the face. "Oops."

"How do you play basketball with that aim?" Oh, so uncle Kol wanted to question my athletic skills now. I see what he was doing so I responded quickly, "So you wanna verse me on the court?"

"No."

"Do me a favor you two," I pointed towards Uncle Kol and my brother.

"What?"

"GET OUT!" I screamed before lowering my voice. "If you haven't noticed I am trying to have a conversation here," I gestured to uncle Elijah.

"Oh brother are you going to give her the talk or something whatever humans call it now a days. The birds and the bee's right."

I grimaced before smirking. "That's exactly what he was trying to do now if you don't mind we would like to finish our conversation but I am sure Erik would love for you too tell him about the birds and the bees." My brother immediately glared at me.

"Perfect. Let's go nephew. Your going to have so much fun." They were gone then and Erik was glaring at me as they left.

"You shouldn't have done that."

"Oh well. You weren't opposed." I noted.

"As I was saying before Damon had no right to bring up the past."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's done and over with now. Who cares."

"You do. You know Mackenzie I have come to realize that you are very good at putting on a front but I have known you since the day you were born. It hurts you that your father doesn't spend time with you or Erik."

"We don't need to have this conversation you know. We wouldn't even be having this conversation if Damon hadn't opened his big mouth."

"Maybe so but it is important for me to tell you that your father loves you."

"Why don't you have this conversation with Erik?" I wondered.

"Because it hurts you more then it does him."

I looked away and played with a loose strand of my bed spread.

"I am sure you were listening to my conversation with dad today." I didn't wait for him to say anything. "I have him an initiative and all he has to do is take it. Baby steps."

"You know he is going to Erik's game, don't you."

"If I did I forgot in the moment. I am sure if Caroline wasn't a cheerleading coach he would not be gong."

"You shouldn't blame her for the past."

"I'm tired."

"No your not but we will resume this conversation another time." Uncle Elijah spoke getting up. "I think I will go save your brother from the mess you have put him in. If I know Kol, which I do he will be very descriptive."

As soon as my bedroom door was open and Uncle Elijah was ready to walk out I spoke. "Baby steps."
