Note:
I've come to understand that with the recent developments in the manga, we've found out that Saena is actually a lawyer. Despite the factual inconsistencies with the actual story and the fanfiction, I hope to remain true to the inherent nature of the characters in the story.
Reino rose to his feet, never breaking eye contact with the beast. Reino narrowed his eyes and scoffed at the mere thought of him being threatened by a German Shepard. Reino took one step forward towards the beast that was now snapping its jaws at him, and let out a low growl. For a minute there was just silence. The dog stopped growling, perhaps impressed with the guts of this tall stranger. Reino let out another growl, deeper and fiercer.
"Scram," Reino hissed.
The dog whimpered and bolted away.
Reino triumphantly watched the dog scamper off and it suddenly hit him that as a Beagle, no…. Vie Ghoul member…. Dammit! Why was he remembering that now? The relevancy of the pun dampened his triumphant win against a German Shepard.
Reino looked around and saw that the men were taking a break to smoke. They were huddled together, lighting each other's cigarette. Their defences were down. This shined as a golden opportunity for Reino. If only he could figure out where the entrance to the basement was.
Logically, they'd be standing closest to the purpose of their job. He squinted to get a better look behind the huddled guards. There was a descending staircase.
Bingo!
Reino sucked in a breath, battling his rising inner fears of being caught, but feared more of what would happen to Kyouko if she wouldn't be found. Where his band sung of death as desirable, he didn't want that for Kyouko. He wanted her alive.
Reino tried to devise an ingenious plan. However his ability in martial arts were close to nil, but he could throw a punch. He tried to recall the last time he was involved in a fight. Ah yes. Tsuruga and Shou. That didn't end very well. He needed to rely on his wits, or whatever was left of it. He sighed. He didn't have much brawn nor wit. Reino stood up, perfectly understanding that he had guts and instincts, more than that damn Shou. Instinct and intuition brought him this far and he was going to keep on relying on this emotions.
And his guts at that moment told him to stand up and charge at them.
The guards momentarily stunned by a dark silhouette emerging from the bushes didn't say anything. Their small chatter came to a halt.
"Charge," the voice in his head ordered.
So, Reino did, whilst cursing under his breath.
(Kyouko)
She rested her head against the cement walls. She was tired, exhausted from the trip, the false expectations, the faltering glimmer of hope and the tears that she willed herself to save for a later time. She balled her hands in a fist and hit herself on the head.
"I'm such an idiot," she whispered.
No one heard but she knew if her mother did, she would have agreed unhesitatingly.
Kyouko's ears perked up when she heard yelling from outside. One of the Little Kyoukos tugged at the hem of her shirt, pointing to the door.
"Someone has come to rescue me?" Kyouko asked bewildered. The Mini Kyouko nodded her head enthusiastically.
Suddenly she heard a loud thud, someone endlessly cursing and then...
"Kyouko! My sweet kitten! Guess who's here!"
Kyouko knew that daunting voice anywhere. "Reino?" She was puzzled. She looked down at her little Kyokos and they all jumped up and down excitedly.
The door swung open and Reino stepped into the room. "Let's go," he said urgently. "I know you've missed me."
Reino looked around the room and his eyes softened when he caught sight of Kyouko sitting on the floor, back against the wall. Her face looked like it had lost all hope even as he stood before more than willing to save her. Just what happened? He had always taken the pleasure of riling up Kyouko's nerves whenever he had the chance, but with her less than surprised reaction, he was pissed.
He was going to exact his revenge very carefully after this ordeal was over. Someone had stolen his favourite source of entertainment and that person was going to pay.
"Reino," Kyouko tried to stand up, hands leaning on the wall for support. "Save me."
Reino rushed towards Kyouko and helped her stand. Kyouko climbed on his back.
"We're getting out of here."
Reino bolted out. Kyouko wanted to thank him, but she blacked out before she had the chance.
