Hey guys! Please disregard the names of my chapters. They are completely horribly embarrassing. I am sorry. Anyway, here is the subsequent chapter in our nice lil' story. Enjoy! Make sure to tell me what you think!
For almost two days straight, Lucy didn't see Placid Prof once. At first it was actually quite fun. The Prof was full of life and he was happier than she'd ever seen him. Yes, he was still loud and sarcastic, but he always cast a sideways smirk at Lucy. He was playful, in his own way, and he hardly left anything to be desired.
But by the second day, Lucy started to wonder.
"Ee, Potty, where's your mate?" She asked a short while before lunch as she gazed out the window at a person rushing by.
Potty Prof raised his flaming head, "My mate?"
"Aye. Your mate." She grinned at him mischievously.
"I dunno. How should I know?" Alfendi returned his attention to the papers he was looking at.
"Well... If anyone would know... Ee, never mind." Lucy had been reminded of his absence while looking out the window. Usually, with Placid around, she couldn't people watch at all. He kept the shades down. The crooked blinds stifled almost all of the natural light that tried to seep into the Mystery Room.
Lucy got up from the couch. So far it had been a very quiet day. All they had done was sit around and talk about old cases. Now Alfendi had found himself an old serial killer's case file that particularly interested him. He was reading through it, complimenting or mocking the perpetrator out loud on each of his deeds. Lucy walked over to him and put her hand over his.
"Wha'd'ya say t' getting us some lunch somewhere?"
Alfendi looked up, sliding his fingers between hers, "Alright," he said, "but this time I get to choose where we go. The cashier at that place we went to yesterday was a bit too fond of you." Alfendi glared for a moment, then grinned to himself, "If we go back I might be tempted to rip his eyes out."
"Eh up! Prof, don't be like tha'! He was jus' being nice, is all."
Alfendi got up and fingered a loose strand of Lucy's hair. "Yeah, a bit too nice. Come, Lucy, we're going to have a Chinese at that takeaway place."
He put his arm around Lucy and they left for lunch.
They returned about a half hour later with steaming hot lo mein and spring rolls. Lucy was reclining on the couch with her legs across his lap as they ate it when—
"'Ere, Prof, 'ave an egg roll." Lucy said, mouth stuffed, and handed him an egg roll along with the thing of duck sauce.
"No thanks, Lucy. I'm not terribly hungry. We really should get back to work, you know."
Lucy looked up, surprised, "But we've only jus—oh... 'lo, Placid," she studied his face, frowning, "Prof, you've gotta eat. We don't 'ave any work to do." She continued to look at him. She had missed that stolid face.
"Well, yes, but..." Alfendi trailed off. Lucy had put down the box of lo mein and was pulling herself closer to Alfendi. She draped one arm around his shoulder and held his face gently in her other hand. Despite his awkwardness, she leaned in and kissed him softly. Wrapping her arms around him, she nestled her face in his neck.
"A-Are you alright, Lucy?" Alfendi embraced her nervously.
"Aye, 'course I am. Just missed you, is all."
"You... You missed me? But Lucy, I've been right here."
"You know wha' I mean, don't be thick. You've never stayed as Potty for so long."
"Er... Why does it matter?"
"I dunno. I were just... worried summat 'ad 'appened t' you. Tha's all."
"What would have happened to me?" The Prof brought his hand up and touched her hair.
"Nawt. I were just being daft."
Alfendi forgot to protest as Lucy leaned in once more. She kissed him long and hard. As the kiss became more intense, Lucy realized that she was kissing Potty Prof now.
That night, she went out to the movies with Potty.
She came into the Mystery Room the next morning to see Potty.
It was this way for the rest of the week.
