Chapter 11 It's over...or is it.

Jim watched as the man with the bandaged head crumpled to the ground and lay still and his only thought was, "That's what you get for shooting my best friends dog, you bastard." he scanned the trees for the men he could hear crying, he could tell at least four of the men had been wearing their goggles when the lights had been turned on, which made him smile. He spotted the first man, holding is eyes next to the dead man. Jim kept scanning the trees and spotted three more men holding their eyes. That left at least two more men out there. Jim turned on Bobby's radio mic that he had grabbed from Bobby's gear, and started scanning the channels until he found the one the mercs were using. Static, next channel...static, next channel... "Everyone quiet, now those who can still see sound off on my mark, mark."

"Billy G, left field still able."

"Billy P, right field still able."

"Anyone else..... shit...Billy G and P stay where you are, I'm going to check on the others."

Jim heard two sets of "Check holding." He looked at each of the blinded men and looked for the man who was giving the orders, he finally spotted him leaning over the dead man. Jim took careful aim and squeezed the trigger of the snipers rifle, he watched as the bullet slammed into the mans shoulder, sending him crashing backwards into the tree behind him. Jim chuckled as "Bastard." could be heard being shouted by the man as he scrambled behind the tree.

"Billy G and P, keep your heads down, they have a pissing sniper hiding somewhere. Why the fuck didn't we know about this, someone has seriously dropped the ball on this one. Both of you take out the fucking lights and torch that place."

As soon as Jim heard this he pumped three bullets into the mans head, reducing it to a bloody lump on his shoulders. With no idea where the other two men were, Jim waited for the lights to be hit.

In the cabin Sara sat with Gil's head on her lap, as doc examined his side. "Gil, you are one luck son of a buck." doc said as he applied a dressing to Gils wound. "It was a shallow through and through. The angle of the ricochetting bullet ran it across one of your ribs under the skin, which stopped any major damage. All you have is a small hole at the front and a bigger hole at the back, and in-between a nice tunnel that will leave a nasty bruise and you will be very sore. So no arguments you will be on these pain killers for the next few days."

"Okay doc, whatever you say, just stop poking me in the side please." Gil said with gritted teeth.

"Well if you would sit up I could bandage this properly." Al chuckled.

"Wow your bedside manner really needs some work." Gil said as Sara helped him sit up.

"Well my normal patients don't complain and are not ticklish like you are, will you stop wriggling, your worse than my grand-daughter and she's only five." doc laughed

"Well as you pointed out I'm very ticklish." Gil huffed out, then glared at Sara when he felt her laughing against his back. "Sara that is not helping."

"Gil, I'm sorry but that was just funny." Sara didn't get to say anymore as Greg got their attentions by saying. "Hey guys one of the lights just exploded... make that two, they're taking them out."

"Doc go back in the kitchen and keep an eye out. Greg can you see anyone on that side." Sara asked as she helped Gil position his rifle.

"Nope nothing, I think they are coming your way."

"I have movement on this side." Cath spoke.

"Take the shot." Gil told her.

Cath aimed at the slow moving shadow and squeezed the trigger. she watched as the figure fell to the ground, but soon shots were being fired in her direction. Greg Joined her at the window and helped her returned fire, while one of them was reloading the other was firing. Greg had just taken his third shot when they heard a scream come from the trees. "I think I got him." Greg said as he looked through the window. Greg didn't feel pain as the bullet ripped through his shoulder, all he felt was as if some-one had just punched him and the next thing he knew was he was looking at the ceiling with Cath holding his shoulder and shouting for doc.

Greg tried to sit up, but Cath wouldn't let him, slowly the pain made its presence known and with it the blessed oblivion of nothingness, as he passed out. Cath let doc take care of Greg as she picked up her rifle again and looked for the man outside. She saw him get to his feet and start towards the front of the house, Cath pulled on the trigger and sent the bullets flying towards him, Just as Nick opened up from his position.

The man outside was caught in-between two sets of bullets, he tried to make it to the ground, but was too slow as the bullets from the cabin slammed into him. He was hit in the chest, legs and stomach. Knowing that he was going to die the man slowly pulled himself away from the cabin leaving a big blood trail behind him.

In the cabin doc had Greg stabilised for the moment, but he would need serious medical attention soon.

"How is he doc." Gil called from the other side of the room where he was firing at the man who had just shot out the light ti his right.

"Stable for now, but it would be a good if we could finish this soon and get him out of here."

"That's what we're trying to do doc, but the man out there wants to kill us first." Sara said as she handed Gil the loaded rifle and took his empty one. "Nick anything on your side."

"Nope its all gone quiet over here."

"Well get your ass over here and help us." Gil shouted as he took the next rifle and gave his empty one to Sara.

"Where is he." Nick asked as he leaned against the wall beside the window.

"Do you see the big tree by Jims truck." Gil said as he kept firing.

"Yeah."

"Well the muzzle flashes are coming from there." just as Gil said this, Nick saw the muzzle flash and a bullet hit the side of the cabin.

"Gris stop firing for a minute, I don't think he's there, I think he's rigged his rifle to the tree and that he's somewhere else, possibly with a bit of string he pulls which fires the rifle." Nick could see Gils mind working as he told him his theory.

Gil finally came to a decision. "Go warn Jim, if your right I think Jim is the target, tell him to switch to the thermal image scope." as Gil finished speaking a shot came from the other direction. He turned and saw one of the men staggering into the clearing, he wasn't looking at anything just holding the weapon in front of him and firing. Gil knew instantly that the man was blind, but even so he was getting closer to the people in the cabin with the shots he was firing.

Gil took careful aim and shot the man in the knee cap, he watched as the man hit the floor, releasing his gun in favour of holding his knee. Another man stumbled into the clearing, but this time Jim took him down with a shot to the hip. Both men watched as the last two blinded men came into the clearing, both had semi-automatics firing at the cabin, again the men were shot in the knee cap and hip and both men hit the dirt at the same time.

On the roof Jim had just reloaded his rifle when he heard Nick calling him. "Jim he's not by the rifle."

"What."

"He's not by the rifle, he's pulling a Macgyver move and rigged the rifle to a tree."

"I know I lost him after he talked to the last man. Hoped he had run."

"Gris said switch to the thermal image scope."

"Shit I forgot I had it up here, thanks you should get back down stairs." Jim said as he picked up the thermal scope and attached it to his rifle. Instantly he could see the hot rifle on the tree as he scanned the tree line he heard Bruno barking in the garage, he risked being seen as he moved from his hiding spot to look over the side of the roof. He briefly saw the warm body move around the side of the cabin. Quickly Jim changed position, as he looked over the roof he saw the man had a can of petrol that he was spreading around the outside of the cabin. Jim knew what he had to do was risky but it had to be done. He took careful aim, as the man below him lit a rag. Jim held his breath and squeezed the trigger, and watched as the top of the mans head disintegrated, then as the body fell backwards the rag the man was holding flew side ways away from the petrol.
