I hope you like this chapter. I find it kind of boring, but please, read and tell me what you think. I haven't even bothered looking through it, so I hope it's not all just a mess.
Marshall, Lily and Ted stared at him, waiting for him to answer a question he knew he had to lie to. He just didn't really know how to do it.
"It's important. You better not screw this up." Ted said serious.
Lily let out a giggle and Ted turned to her immediately.
"What?"
"I just think you're funny every time you find *the one*."
"Ha," Barney nodded and smiled at Lily.
Ted looked from Lily to Barney and then he turned to Lily again. "I tell you guys, this girl is different."
"You do realize you've said that about every girl you've dated since we got engaged, right?" Ted turned to the man who spoke.
"Marshall, you're supposed to side with me."
"Why?"
Ted just shook his head. "Ahh, forget it. Just be normal, okay, and Barney?"
Barney realized he hadn't answered the question yet. He'd hoped they'd forget it, but of course Ted needed an answer.
"Ehh...sure, Ted. I won't..." He tried to say ever, but he couldn't. He was the best liar he knew, but this was not going to be easy. He knew if he said *ever* and did what Ted had asked him not to do, Ted would never forgive him.
"I won't hit on this girl tonight and I won't hit on her if you ever become something more than just friends."
He was pretty happy with his answer 'cause it was true. He wouldn't hit on Robin if she caught feelings for Ted. At least he thought he wouldn't.
"Seriously? Why not; I will never hit on her, ever?" Ted didn't take his suspicious eyes away from Barney.
"No, Ted. I'm sorry, but if she leaves with no plans of seeing you again I don't see the problem in hitting on her."
Ted was definitely disappointed.
"Barney, whatever happens, this girl deserves something more than a one night stand from you."
This was ridiculous. Why did Ted care so much about her. He had no reason to care this much for Robin and Barney hated it. "Ted, you have nothing to do with what she want or not. So if I decide to hit on her, it's her own fault if she's dumb enough to end up in bed with me and you know that."
Lily interrupted the conversation by changing topic. They had to act normal when this girl would come.
Robin entered the bar 9 minutes later than she was supposed to and the first person she noticed was Barney. He leaned against the wall drinking scotch. She looked at him and smiled, she felt butterflies in her stomach when she felt his eyes on her, but she tried to ignore him and the butterflies while she walked towards Ted who looked a bit annoyed.
"Hey," he welcomed her with a hug and she kissed him quickly on the cheek.
"Hey," she smiled and turned to his friends.
Barney examined his friends who was now in a conversation with Robin, his other friend. He tried to find the best way to pretend he didn't know her. He knew he would be fine, he knew they would make it perfectly.
He walked up to the booth, "Hey!" Barney noticed when Ted rolled his eyes, but he ignored it as he always did and turned his attention to Robin.
"And you are Ro...Roxi...Roch...Rol...Rob...ahh, you gotta help me. I don't remember your name." He saw the smirk on her face as she did her best to keep her laughter away. "Robin," she said and shook his hand.
"Ahh, Robin, I knew it was a boy name." He regretted it immediately. He knew she had problems with her dad and he knew her name had something to do with him, but by the look in her face it didn't seem like he'd offended her. At least this was just to hide evidence they knew each other.
"Barney, be nice." Lily said.
Ted nodded in agreement and started telling Robin about everything Barney had done to women before, and why she shouldn't be one of them.
Barney usually loved it when people told others about him, but he hated it when Ted told him about his womanizing to a friend. Especially to a friend who knew what he was like in his teens, but Ted didn't know that yet.
Robin just smiled, nodded and replied with "ah ha" when Ted talked and after a while it seemed like she didn't listen. Barney felt his eyes was about to shut when Ted was at the part where he left a girl in a tent in the middle of the forest. "BOOORRIIINNG!" Barney pushed himself up from the chair, "anyone want another drink?"
No one answered. They stared at Robin, waiting to see what she wanted. "I'm good, I think I should go."
"What? Already?" Ted protested.
"Already? I think I've been here 3 hours and it was fun, no lie." Barney didn't even try to hide his laughter as she said it. It should be impossible to not notice she lied, but the others looked at him like he was the strange one and he realized they hadn't seen through her.
"What? That was funny." Barney tried to keep his smile away, but couldn't when he saw the smile that formed on Robin's face when she turned away from the rest of the gang.
"What was funny?" Ted asked.
"Ehh...just forget it." He turned to the bar, "Hey, Ted, which one?" He pointed at two blondes.
Ted didn't even care to look at any of them, "The one to the right."
Barney didn't say anything he just went to the blonde girl to the right and minutes later he exited the door with her just like Robin did moments earlier.
Robin had just managed to stop a cab when Barney came outside. He didn't know what Robin would think of his next move, but right now he didn't care. He dragged the blonde quickly with him to Robin's cab and before Robin got the chance to go inside he pushed the blonde inside. He looked at Robin and winked. He locked the door and the cab drove away.
"Why did you do that?" Everything had happened so fast, Robin hadn't really taken it all in.
Barney didn't answer before he'd stopped another cab. "She was obviously drunk, needed to get out of the bar and I decided to help her, now here's a cab for you."
"Ehh...Thank you," Robin entered the cab and before locking the door she locked eyes with Barney.
"We can share cab."
He never thought he would be so happy by that answer, but without even answering he slipped into the seat beside her.
She stared at him as he sat there waiting for the cab to drive.
"Where are we going?" She heard a familiar voice ask and funny as it is, the driver was Ranjit.
"To my place, if you remember." Robin answered.
"Okay!"
"I guess you have to drive me home first."
Robin shook her head. "No! There's no reason he would drive you home first anyways and would you say no to a drink at my place?"
Barney's smile was a good enough answer.
