A/N - okay everyone, things to be mentioned in this note...yes I'm a pain in the arse but at least I'm telling you what they are. 1) Jessie's age has changed again. 17 again, nearly 18. Violent themes in this. ***UPDATE 13/08/14 - Re-wrote the whole thing between Woody and Jessie*** Chapter 12 –
2) Diary date has changed again. Still 15th 1885 but it's June.
Bart stepped out the carriage and was followed by Betty. "Bo I expect you to keep a very close eye on your sister, I don't want to same thing happening again." Bart said sternly.
Jessie rolled her eyes to herself and looked at the floor.
"Yes Father, I will. Please don't be too long." Bo said sweetly.
"We will try not to be to be." Betty said.
Buzz, Chunk, Lotso and Sam started to walk onwards so Betty and Bart left the Jane carriage to catch up with them.
Jessie took a glace out of the window; they had gone out of sight. Her hand reached towards the door but Bo quickly grabbed it.
"You are NOT going out there!" Bo snapped.
"You're not the boss of me Bo!" Jessie snatched her hand away.
"Do you want Father to get angry at you again? And he will get angry at me too for not watching you!"
"Is that all you care about, Father getting angry at you?" Jessie lowered her eyebrows.
Bo stared at her in shock.
"I'll do what I like; I am seventeen years old, nearly eighteen. None of you are the boss of me!" With that, Jessie opened the carriage door and stepped outside.
"Don't blame me when Father gets mad at you!" Bo shouted.
Jessie rolled her eyes and slammed the door and mumbled, "You wouldn't get the blame anyway."
She made her way to the front of the carriage and saw Angel, "Hey girl."
Angel neighed in delight as Jessie patted her side.
"I hope you and the other horses are okay."
Angel snorted and flitted her tail.
"Well...we are back here. You're so lucky you get to be out here. You can see it all. Is it nice?"
Angel nudged Jessie and twitched her ears.
"I take that as a yes." She gazed around.
Angel knew what she was looking for, she was looking for her cowboy 'friend'.
"Do you think I should go exploring?" She questioned. "I might find your brown horse...and the cowboy."
Angel nudged Jessie again, she was trying to urge her forward to see if you could find him.
"I'll be back soon girl." Jessie smiled hugging Angel's neck before heading off.
Jessie made her way through crowds of people trying to remember her way around. 'Darn it, why can't I be good at navigation?' She thought to herself as she turned a lane. A smile crept across her face as she noticed the toy shop with the closed sign in the window, 'Ah ha!'
As she walked towards it, she saw all the shops she had seen on her previous visits and the saloon. The field was also there, the one she first saw the cowboy and Bullseye.
A couple of men outside the saloon whistled at her but she ignored them. They were clearly drunk.
"Hey pretty lady," one of them slurred, "want a drink?"
"Idiots." She mumbled as she walked over to the field.
The mud that she had fallen in had dried up so she was able to step over it instead of jumping it. Placing her hands on the fence, she peaked over. Nothing. "Damn it." She said aloud, "Maybe they are behind the bush..." she thought trailing off in thought.
Beside the toy shop, the two she was searching for stood watching her.
The cowboy was sat on his horse watching Jessie in curiosity. "I thought I recognised the carriage, it's the same one from the other day. And that is the girl who was looking at us...I remember her hair."
Bullseye neighed and stared at Jessie.
"Her hair...I've never seen hair like it."
Bullseye looked up at Woody.
"What? Look at it. It's bright red. I've never seen someone have such outright red hair. Lets go see what she is up to." He said jumping off.
Jessie placed her feet onto the fence and hoisted herself up. She looked over the bush but they still couldn't be seen. Her eyes wondered around the field but still nothing.
The cowboy and Bullseye were only a few feet away from her but she was too busy looking in the field to consider her behind surroundings.
Jessie sighed to herself as a breeze hit her face. She slowly shut her eyes as the sun soaked into her.
Slowly walking forward, the cowboy stood by her side and placed his arm on the fence and leant on it. Bullseye watched his owner as he stared at Jessie in fascination.
Jessie slowly opened her eyes. Out of the corner of her eye she noticed someone stood next to her. She jumped and her grasp left the fence, "Ahh!"
The cowboy quickly put his free arm out and grabbed her wrist. "Woah, steady on Miss." He said pulling her back up, "Don't want you falling over again, or hurting yourself."
Jessie felt her heart racing against her chest. She was still recovering from the shock of being startled and seeing that it was the cowboy it flustered her. For days she had wanted to see him but trying to find the right words to say to him wouldn't come to her mind so all she could do was stare.
"Are you alright?" He questioned.
Jessie nodded quickly, words still failing to come out her mouth. She gazed at him; he was even more handsome up close. His nose was long and slender and suited his broad face. He didn't smile but in his eyes she could see concern. His eyes were a deep brown and looked beautiful but they looked as though they belonged to someone a lot older than him. They seemed lost in time in a void of sadness.
The man stared back into her eyes, almost like he had never seen another human being before. Her green eyes stood out from her red hair which danced about in the gentle breeze.
Passers by stopped and stared at the two of them and muttered minor comments to each other before continuing with their day. Bullseye looked at his owner, never before had he seen his owner look at anyone in the way he was staring at this stranger before. He let out a neigh and banged his front hoof against the floor causing the two to break from their trance.
"T-thank you." Jessie managed to say.
With a tilt of his hat, the cowboy said "You're welcome m'am."
Although he didn't smile at her, Jessie couldn't help a little smile to him. But the smile soon faded as she felt a sharp grip on her arm and she was yanked away from him.
The cowboy briskly turned to see who had taken her.
Jessie looked to see Buzz holding onto her tightly. "Buzz what are you doing?" She struggled against his grip.
"I'm taking you back to the carriage." Buzz said looking down at her. "You're lucky it was me who found you and not your Father!"
Jessie's face fell as soon as he mentioned her Father.
The cowboy jumped on Bullseye not wanting to let the girl out of his sight. "Come on boy, follow them."
Buzz dragged her back to the carriages where she was greeted by faces beholding mixed expressions. All the men except Sam held angry expressions, while the women held faces of concern. Jessie was more concerned about her Father though. His face held a snarl while his eyes seemed to burn with fire. Her heart began to race rapidly against her chest and her struggle against Buzz began to die down.
"There's that useless Brat." Lotso said pointing his stick at her.
Buzz placed an arm in front of Jessie as they reached the carriages.
"I thought I told you to stay in the carriage!" Bart yelled.
Jessie remained quiet and looked at the ground.
"I said, I thought I told you to STAY IN THE CARRIAGE?!" Bart grabbed her arm and forced her from Buzz.
"Well I didn't, did I?" Jessie said looking him in the eyes.
Bart's body began to tremble. "You young lady, are in BIG trouble." He shoved her backwards and raised his hand.
"Bart don't do this." Buzz said reaching out to grab Jessie but Lotso pushed him back.
"She deserves it!" He said gruffly.
Noticing that nobody was doing anything, Angel started neighing erratically and kicked her hind legs into the front of the carriage. Hamm tried to calm her but it just made her worse. She wanted to protect Jessie.
"Whip that creature and make sure it knows its place in society!" Bart pointed his raised hand at Hamm.
"But Sir...I can't." Hamm reluctantly said.
"Fine then." Buzz snatched the whip from Hamm's grasp. "I'll do it myself!"
Bart raised the whip high above his head.
"Father you can't!" Jessie shouted as she jumped in front of Angel to deflect the whip. As the rope lowered, she clenched her eyes shut.
A sharp sound of the whip hitting skin could be heard, as could the sound of neighing, but no pain went through Jessie. Opening her eyes, Jessie expected to see the sight of her angry Father but instead it was Bullseye with the cowboy on top of him.
Bullseye slammed his front legs down causing Bart to step backwards. The whip had wound itself around the cowboys arm but no pain showed in his expression. Each of the carriage goers stared in shock and many of the passersby were now staring.
"You know something, if I had as much money as you, I would be able to afford respect to women and respect to animals!" The cowboy shouted throwing the whip back at Bart.
Bart clenched the whip and stared up at the cowboy. "Move out my way you worthless piece of dirt!" He tried to push Bullseye but he was too strong.
"I suggest to you, that you calm down and be on your way."
"Well do you wanna know what I suggest? I suggest you move out my way before I push you off that stupid horse of yours!"
The cowboy replied sternly, "Oh I suggest you don't do that sir.
Bart reached up to push him off the horse but the young man reached into his holster and pulled out a gun and pointed it at Bart.
"You're in my town now, and you do as I say." His Western accent was becoming more broad. "If you dare lay one finger on me I will arrest you."
"Oh I would love to see you try you pathetic waste of space."
The cowboy pulled the left side of his jacket down and pointed to a golden star shaped badge with the word 'Sheriff' inscribed in the centre.
Everyone looked at the badge.
Jessie's face fell, "Y-you're the S-Sheriff?"
"Yes," Woody looked at her before turning his gaze back to Bart, "and I ain't having no one treat ladies with such disrespect in my town."
Bart looked around, everyone was staring at him. Both anger and embarrassment consumed his body. Reaching up, he grabbed the cowboy by his shirt and pulled him down to look him in the eyes.
"Calm down Bart!" Buzz shouted but he ignored.
"You think you have so much power in that little star shaped badge don't ya cowboy? Well let me tell you something, you may be Sheriff but I have more power and authority than you ever will!" He shoved him back up.
Jessie looked helplessly at the ground. He was the Sheriff.
"I'll give you two minutes to get out of here." The Sheriff stated. "And if you don't get out I'll have you arrested for harassment and assault."
Bart gritted his teeth and turned around.
"Jessie, get in my carriage." Buzz demanded.
"No." Bart shouted.
"She is getting in mine." Buzz said grabbing Jessie's hand.
The cowboy moved Bullseye out of the way so the two could get to the carriage, his glare still fixed on Bart.
Bo quickly jumped into the Jane carriage and was soon followed by Betty.
As Jessie passed Lotso he gave her an evil smile which she ignored as she continued to talk by Buzz's side.
Abigail and Sam quickly went inside their carriage and could here Lotso and Chunk mumbling to each other as they went into theirs.
A sigh escaped Jessie as she looked at the cowboy for the last time.
"Daddy?" Ella questioned from inside the carriage. "What happened?"
"Nothing sweetie, Jessie is coming in our carriage for the rest of the journey."
Tears started to venture into Jessie's eyes and she flung herself into the carriage.
Ella looked at Jessie in confusion. "Why are you sad?"
Jessie didn't respond, she just wept leaving Ella sat in confusion.
Bart went to step inside the carriage but the Sheriff grabbed his shoulder. "I never want to see you in my town again, am I understood?"
"Clearly." Bart spat as he snatched his shoulder away. He sat down in the carriage and slammed the door shut.
Buzz sighed and stepped into his carriage, shutting the door behind him.
Moving out the way, she carriages began to move.
"I sure hope that young girl is okay..." Woody whispered to Bullseye.
Buzz gently placed his hand on Jessie's shoulder. Quickly, she sat up and embraced him with a hug which he returned.
Ella was staring in confusion at the two but Buzz couldn't say what happened.
"He was the Sheriff." Jessie mumbled through sobs. "He was the Sheiff..."
