Chase stared out the window of the helicopter, glancing down at the ground about thirty thousand feet below. His mind was spinning with so many thoughts that he, even with his brilliant brain, thought that it was too much.
No one said a word. All that could be heard was the sound of propellers on top spinning rapidly and the radio located in the front of the vehicle picking up random voices every few minutes. They were all too tense to talk.
Chase felt as if his stomach was a rope and someone was twisting it violently. Just the thought of seeing Bree again made him anxious. And knowing that it might be soon didn't help.
"How do we know that she'll be there?" Adam finally spoke, more like yelled, over the sound of air in the small space.
"We don't!" Chase didn't like the nagging feeling he got in his gut, but he had to be truthful. There was a chance that Bree wouldn't be at the warehouse anymore. But he was willing to go anywhere, to do anything, to find her.
Adam simply nodded and sat back in his seat.
"We're almost there!" Chase said to Davenport, who was driving, as he looked at his GPS. "About ten more minutes!"
"That close, huh?" Davenport didn't tear his gaze away from the front window. "How are you holding up?"
"Good." Was the only response that Chase could come up with at the moment. He then leaned back in his own seat and closed his eyes, feeling the wind on his face and through his hair, letting his mind go blank.
.
.
.
The helicopter landed on the ground with a soft thud, pulling Chase back to reality. He opened his eyes as Davenport turned the engine off and turned in his seat to face the guys. "We're here."
Chase didn't hesitate to unbuckle his seatbelt and yank the door open, hopping out all in one swift motion. He breathed out and took in his surroundings; the warehouse was in the middle of a field bordered by nothing but grass for what looked like miles.
"What is this place?" Adam asked to no one in particular as he stepped out.
"No idea. But it looks like the perfect place for something to be uninterrupted." Chase sneered, his mind filling with hateful thoughts directed toward Marcus. He could only imagine what the evil bastard needed to do that involved such a secluded place.
He turned to see Adam looking at him. "We should probably get going."
"Guys!" Davenport called from where he still sat in the driver's seat. They both walked over. "Here, put these ear pieces in. It'll let me hear everything that goes on in there without actually being in there."
"Wait, why do we have to do all the work while you just sit there?" Adam frowned. "That's not very fair."
Chase resisted the urge to smack his palm to his forehead as Davenport sighed. "Adam, I'm not bionic like you and Chase are."
Adam had to think for a few moments before realization became visible in his expression. "Oh."
"There you go." Davenport then turned to the usual mission leader. "Are you ready for this?"
Chase chuckled and nodded. "Of course. I can handle myself, Mr. Davenport."
The older man sighed again. "I know you can. It's just..I know you've been taking this Bree situation the hardest…" He looked up. "Just remember what I said back at the house; expect the worst."
"Got it." Chase didn't want to hear anymore, he was getting too restless. So he turned to his bionic brother and gestured toward the building behind them. "Now let's go."
The excitement was evident on Adam's face as he nodded and started toward the warehouse. He was always the one most full of adrenaline when it came to missions, especially ones that might involve a lot of action.
But Chase didn't see this as a mission. He saw it as getting his best friend, basically the most important person in his life, back.
They circled the building, looking for another way to get in other than the front door. The key was to be as inconspicuous as possible. Eventually they decided on a second story window near the back right corner. Luckily Adam was tall enough to hoist Chase up on his shoulders and lift him through. He then pulled himself up over the windowsill and in.
Chase held out a hand to help him up off the ground. He then looked around the room, noticing that it would be too dark to see anything if they had normal human eyesight. It was times like these that he was thankful to be anything but normal.
"Again I ask; what is this place?" Adam asked, looking around as well.
"Shh!" Chase silenced him. "We have to be quiet or else we'll get caught."
"Oh, right." Adam nodded. They began to walk over to the only door when suddenly a loud buzzing could be heard. "What the-"
"It's Mr. Davenport." Chase clarified, raising a hand to his earpiece. He flicked a small button upward and a red light came on, signaling that the device was on and working. "Hello?"
"Chase? Adam? Can you hear me?"
Chase looked over to see Adam looking at him, realizing that they were both hearing the same thing. "Yep."
"Good. I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to do a quick scan of the area. You might feel a slight interference with your chips."
Almost instantly did they feel it, a weird static noise that felt like it was buzzing in the backs of their necks, which lasted five seconds at most.
"Okay, done. It seems that there's some sort of activity going on somewhere on the first floor."
"Awesome." Adam muttered with a smile on his face.
Chase rolled his eyes and pressed his index finger to his earpiece, almost as if it helped him to communicate in any way. "Can you tell what it is?"
"Not from where I am."
He sighed and looked to Adam. "I'll lead the way. Stay close behind me."
Adam nodded and Chase started walking, pulling the door open slowly. A small squeaking began to occur, making him stop completely. "Wait, this isn't going to work. Adam," He turned around again. "Pull the door off of its hinges. But you have to do it as silently as you can."
"Oh move over." Adam shouldered passed him right to the edge.
"Wait, don't-"
A loud scraping sound echoed off the walls as Adam pulled wood away from metal. He, still holding the door as if it were a piece of paper, turned to Chase – who was glaring intensely through the dark at him – with an apologetic smile on his face. "Oops."
"Yeah oops!" Chase whisper shouted. "What part don't you get about the word 'silently'?"
Adam shrugged but was interrupted by Davenport. "What was that?"
"Nothing, just Adam being an idiot!" Chase groaned, his eyes narrowed at Adam. Meanwhile the oldest bionic teen rolled his eyes and set the door down gently.
"Well get it under control! I could hear that even without the earpiece!"
Chase sighed and began to lead the way again. They slowly walked down a flight of stairs, stopping every so often when a step creaked, and onto the first floor. "How big is this place?" He asked, his question directed toward Davenport.
"Pretty big. It's gotta be at least five thousand square feet wide."
Adam made a whistling sound.
"Don't worry, you guys are good for now. There's nothing coming your way at the moment."
Chase nodded and looked down a long hallway. "How do we know which way to go?"
"We could just start opening doors…" Adam suggested.
"Because that worked so well last time?" Chase snapped back.
"Hey, I said I was sorry!"
"When?"
"I, uh..thought it?"
"Well your thoughts don't mean very much!"
"Okay, you know what-"
"Hey!" Davenport's voice stopped them. "Quit arguing, this is a very delicate situation you two are in!"
Both boys sighed and turned toward the hallway again. "I say we just…start walking?" Chase guessed.
Adam nodded and they continued to move through the darkness for another two minutes. But suddenly they heard a loud static noise coming from their comsets, one that resembled an old radio trying desperately to find a signal but failing miserably.
"Mr. Davenport, what's that sound?" Chase frowned.
Only static. Finally the scientist broke through. "Guys, you need to-"
He was cut off. Chase exchanged a nervous glance with Adam as he pressed his finger to the earpiece. "What? Mr. Davenport, can you hear us?"
Silence other than the crinkling sound. Then, "I said that something…danger…."
They stood still, hoping that the line would clear up, when suddenly, "YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF THERE!"
Then the line was silent completely. They barely had to time to register the situation, though, because the next thing they knew they were both swept off their feet by the wall exploding behind them. Chase sailed through the air and landed on the cold concrete floor with a painful crack erupting somewhere inside of him.
He continued to lay there for a minute, his head reeling. The ceiling was a mix of unfocused blurs, fading in and out, and his ears were ringing from the loud blast. He struggled to regain air into his chest as he choked out Adam's name, wondering where his brother was.
Panic rose within him when Adam didn't reply. He tried to sit up but quickly fell back down when a sharp pain stabbed at his abdomen. He called Adam's name a bit louder this time, hoping to get some sort of answer, but was disappointed fast.
What he did hear were footsteps that seemed to come closer and closer. He felt a new form of panic in the pit of his stomach as the person bent over, their face coming into his view with a malicious smile on their lips.
Chase's panic quickly turned to anger as he glared up at them.
"Marcus."
I know, cliffhangers can be so frustrating! Haha Trust me, I get the feeling *cough Vampire Diaries cough*
So, yeah! Not much I can say about this chapter other than they're SUPER CLOSE to seeing Bree again! I mean, it's a bit of a dead giveaway seeing as though she's most likely at Marcus' side…or IS she? Mwahahaha! XD
Anyway, please read&review! I already have the next chapter done and ready to post, I just need some feedback on THIS chapter first! I swear, the faster you comment the faster the story continues. IT'S ALL UP TO YOU! :P
