Chapter 12
Roxas and Namine ran towards the docks, Roxas in front. He looked behind and smiled, only to see Namine not there, but passing him and getting to the docks before him.
"I guess you're out of shape Roxas." She laughed.
"Heh, yeah. When did you get so fast anyway?" Roxas was surprised that she beat him for once. "I've always beat you. Riku and Sora have been my competition."
"Maybe I'm just suddenly better than you!" She laughed again, enjoying herself a lot, even though they haven't reached the island.
"Maybe... We'll have to see about that." Roxas grinned. "Race you!" He then sprinted off ahead and jumped into his small wooden boat.
"Hey, no fair!" Namine yelled at him. She then chased after him and jumped into her boat. "You started before me!"
"You snooze you lose." Namine pouted. "Don't be like that."
"Bye!" She then grabbed her oars and rowed off, splashing Roxas with a heap of water. "You snooze you lose remember?"
Out in the distance of the children, a man was watching them contently.
"Go, take care of them my heartless..."
- and Zach had been wandering around the broken city for ages without stopping. Trying to get to a place that seemed to have no entry.
"It's no use," Zach sighed "We'll never get in..."
- looked around to him, dishope in her eyes.
"We will... maybe not today, but we will." She picked up a piece of debris and threw it across the street. "Everything's just blocked off."
"Need help there?" A mysterious voice from above said.
Zach looked around to find the origin of the voice, but he didn't see anyone that could've said it.
"Up here!" The speaker came down off the top of the debris pile.
She had stunning long chocolate hair that ran down her shoulders. She was just taller than Zach and duel wielded katanas. Her eyes are what Zach noticed first when she came down, deep hazel. Zach shook his head.
"Oh, hey! We haven't seen anyone else around here."
The girl tilted her head, then realized what he meant.
"Oh right! Yeah, we're all in this hideout. None of our weapons do anything against the creatures that invaded." She looked around, "Speaking of one!" She pulled out her katanas and striked the creature, which just made it evaporate into a dark cloud. "Yeah, nothing."
"Great! Heartless, you hear that -? Well, I guess we have more business to do here then." Zach exclaimed, not sounding too happy about the invasion.
"Anyway" - interrupted "What's your name. I always like one to a face I can trust."
The girl smirked mischievously.
"Wouldn't you like to know?" She looked over at -'s face, noticing the look annoyance. "Just come with me, maybe then I'll tell you."
- sighed. "Fine, we'll come with you."
Roxas and Namine got off of their small rafts and ran onto the island quickly wanting to get to their favorite spot.
They got outside the entrance of the cave quickly, then examining it.
"We've gotten a bit taller haven't we Roxas? I still remember when we could get through here no problem."
Roxas smiled, he still remembered the times vividly from when they were children.
"Yeah, we have. Well as long as we can always get in here it'll just keep getting better."
"Yeah."
Roxas and Namine crawled through the cave entrance for a while until they came out into an opening. They both got off the ground and ran over the the opposite wall where there were old drawings in white chalk from when they were children. The memories came back to them as they were drawing them. Trying to figure out why there was a door in a cave, and always laughing together as kids with their friends Sora, Kairi, Riku and Xion.
"Xion…" Roxas said in a sad voice. "She's gone and we aren't even looking for her."
A few tears ran down Roxas' cheek and he half collapsed, half sat down against the cave wall. He felt the guilt take over him, his friend was missing and he was doing nothing.
"Roxas… We've already discussed this, and we will find her. I can understand your guilt. But for now everyone needs to rest and form a plan." Namine gave him a reassuring look. "It'll be okay."
"Yeah, you're right." Roxas started to smile again. "It will be."
Thunder clapped outside. Namine jumped at the sound.
"I thought it was sunny out." Namine said. "Odd change of weather."
"Well we could always stay here until it dies down. We were planning to be here for a while anyway weren't we?"
Namine smiled.
"Of course!"
The ground started to shake and crack.
'What's going on?' Roxas thought. 'This shouldn't be happening.'
A few shadowy figures came from the cave entrance. Then followed a dozen more as they swarmed in.
"What's going on Roxas?" Namine asked. Quickly hiding behind Roxas and grabbing his arm.
Roxas stood still, looking at the black creatures that had just entered the cave where he and Namine were. He couldn't say anything, what were these things?
'Heartless…'
A flash of bright light engulfed the room and Roxas felt something in his hand. It was a key shaped blade that was black and had a dark aura around it. To Roxas, it seemed extremely familiar.
"Roxas… What's that?" Namine asked. Still scared about the questions in front of them.
Roxas still couldn't call out a voice from him, it seemed as they were doomed. More of the creatures came into the cave, surrounding the 2. The creatures jumped at Roxas and Namine, who was still holding onto Roxas' arm, however, the key shaped blade that Roxas held seemed to move on its own will and sliced through a few of the creatures. As they were sliced apart, the door in the cave behind Namine opened up, a light illuminating the room came from it. The creatures seemed to not like the light and tried with all their force to jump at Roxas.
"Namine, run!"
