Chapter 12!
As previously stated, this will be in Jaelah's POV.
I don't own Harry Potter or any of it's characters. I co-own Jaelah though :D
Please note: This is a filler chapter, it was only placed here so you could see the feast, and know what was happening in the time that Vespera is in the hospital wing. This note is meant for the end of the book when it is posted, so you guys don't eat me for having a random different POV D:
When we got off of the train, I stayed as close to Draco as possible. There was going to be no way I would let the others sit next to him.
We were welcomed by a giant, who said his name was Hagrid. He looked like a complete fool though in his ragged clothing. We were told to get into a boat, 4 people to one boat, and I groaned.
Draco asked, "Jaelah, are you going to be okay?" He looked worried.
I nodded, "Yeah. I think so." I had a case of motion sickness from the train, and spent most of the time not in the compartment. I got into a boat and sat next to Draco, and laid my head on his shoulder. He wrapped his arm around me, and kept telling me we were almost there.
That was, until our boat flipped over, so did the boat that the rest of the people from out compartment was in. These boats were supposed to be anti-flip, and it would have been impossible unless someone had spelled the boats. We flipped them back over, and climbed back in, shivering even more now. "That's it. I'm never getting in a boat again."
The others agreed, and Draco cast a drying spell on all of us, as we continued through the lake. To say the least, Hogwarts did look magnificent, but I had seen it before. All proper wizarding families have been to Hogwarts at least once before they actually attend the school. When we finally reached the mainland, I was the first off the boat, with the help of Draco. "Solid land that isn't moving! Finally!" I smiled and laughed.
I just stood there, while Draco and the others went closer to the front of the line, Draco still trying to become friends with Harry Potter. I shook my head at his persistence, then followed the crowd closer to the back.
Once we reached the castle, we were told to wait outside before going into the main hall for the sorting. Draco came sulking back to the back of the line. I poked his side, "Come on Malfoy, perk up. You can't let any of these fools get your pride down. We have to show them that we're better than them." He nodded, then we all entered the great hall, and were welcomed by loud clapping.
I rolled my eyes at the excessiveness of the entire hall, Dumbledore was getting more and more crazy as the years passed.
The sorting hat was placed on a bar stool, and he opened his eyes, the muggle-born students gasped, and I broke into a smirk at their idiocy.
He then broke out into song, a song that was ever so odd:
"In times when I was newly made,
there were four founders who knew something must be made.
These four knew somehow the houses needed to be sorted.
At first they tried dear ravenclaws diadem, but it was forted
She thought that it would make sure her students were wise
Then came Slytherin's locket, but it decriminalized.
He wanted to make sure only the pure of blood could enter.
Then came dear Hufflepuff with her cup, but it was menor.
She thought that it would accept everyone else.
Then finally came Gryffindor with a brilliant plan,
Why not make a sorting hat with aspects of all?
So, he took off his hat and the founders transformed it.
Ravenclaw made sure it that her house only accepted the intelligent,
While Slytherin made sure that his house accepted only the purest of ancestry.
Furthermore, Gryffindor made sure that his house only accepted the brave of heart,
but Hufflepuff made sure that her house accepted all that weren't accepted elsewhere.
Then I came into being and have been chosen to choose where you go
So, try me on and I will tell you where you ought to be,
I will make sure that the right house will be what you need!"
Everyone clapped for the hat, the hat had to be motivated to sort us apparently.
Then professor McGonagall had a parchment, and began reading names.
The As passed, the Bs, Cs, Ds,and the Es. I was ready to go up next. Faymore had to be near the beginning of the Fs. Except, it wasn't. They kept going. Draco got into Slytherin when the got to the Ms. I still hadn't been sorted.
"Phantomhive, Jaelah." I walked up, there couldn't be anymore Jaelahs in this school, Jaelah was a family name. Then it hit me, my dad's name was Phantomhive. I had always gone by my mother's maiden name, and I told her I always would. I promised I would change my name, and all of us would formally be called Phantomhive, once I started Hogwarts.
I sat down on the bar stool, and the hat was placed on my head. "Jaelah, what a peculiar name. I once sorted a Jaelah years ago, your grandmother perhaps? Let's see, where should you go. You're quite brilliant, perhaps Ravenclaw."
I thought to it, 'If you put me in Ravenclaw you filthy hat, I will find out where you stay during the year and burn you alive.'
"Oh, well then. With those kinds of threats better be..." He then said out loud, "Slytherin!"
The Slytherins clapped, and I sat next to Draco. the next name said was Harry Potter. I rolled my eyes at the silence that had been caused. The sorting hat seemed to sit on his head forever, until it finally yelled "Gryffindor!" The stupid lions broke into loud applause, the Slytherins could care less, no one needed a famous kid in our house.
Then, the doors of the great hall opened, I turned, and saw the prefects coming in. Most of them sat with their house, but the head girl walked towards the staff table, and whispered into Madam Pomfrey's ear, then Pomfrey stood, and left, and the girl took her seat, as if she were waiting for something.
The list reading continued, the next name that caught my attention was, "Salazar, Vespera."
I looked at Draco, "Isn't that the little girl that was so attached to you this summer, that you guys took in?"
He nodded, "Yeah, she's eleven. She's in our year. Didn't you know?" He smirked, he knew I had thought she was a year younger than us.
We looked up, and waited for someone to move forward. McGonagall spoke again, "Salazar Vespera." This time, even louder.
The head girl stood, and walked over to McGonagall, and whispered into her ear, McGonagall nodded, then continued on reading the list.
"What happened to her?" Draco asked worriedly. "She was fine when she left our compartment." I shrugged, and they finished saying the names.
Dumbledore made announcements about how we can't go onto the third floor corridor, and to stay out the forbidden forest. Darn I wanted to camp out in the forest. The food appeared in front of us once he said his strange words, and I began to eat, Draco, however, was looking very worried and not eating.
"We'll eat now, then ask a prefect what happened later. One of them surely knows what happened to her, they all came in late. Plus Weasley the elder was even later coming in. I'd guess she's in the hospital wing, as Pomfrey was called away. If you're sure she was on the train." He nodded, and then we continued eating.
I looked over at the points cylinders, and while Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw, all had some points in them, the Gryffindor cylinder was almost empty. "Malfoy, looks at the Gryffindor points. Think they were the ones who flipped our boats?"
He nodded, "It was probably those Weasley twins, I heard them plotting something. I hear they always do things like that."
I rolled my eyes, "Of course. No good Gryffindors."
We soon finished up our meals, and walked with the prefects down to the Slytherin common rooms. "We will only tell you the password once, and that is now. Serpentera." The wall slid open, and we walked in.
"First years, sit down in the main common room, Professor Snape has some words for you, once he's finished with other business," the girl prefect told us. Draco raised his hand, "Yes Malfoy?" The girl asked.
"My friend, Vespera Salazar, was not at the sorting feast, but was on the train. Do you know what happened to her Prefect Gemma?" Draco, of course, still hadn't forgotten about Vespera.
"The girl is safe, and you can see her tomorrow, at breakfast." She answered, then sat by the fire, as we all waited for Snape.
I pulled out my wand and started flipping it in the air. Pansy caught it and looked at it. "This is a strange wand, tell us about it?"
I smirked, my wand would be the most unusual and powerful wand. "A seven-inch, yew handle with Kaya body wand with a Sapphire and Bloodstone outlining the wood marks. The core is a phoenix feather coated with basilisk venom, with a fragment of a chimera scale embedded in the quill of the feather."
Their mouths hung open, as if they couldn't believe my wand was actually that powerful. I couldn't help but grin, "So, when is Snape getting back?"
"Don't forget Jaelah, it's Professor Snape. Don't want to get in trouble now do you?" Draco smirked at me, remembering back to the ball we had during the summer.
Everyone around had laughed, and there was still no sight of the Professor, one of the third years started talking, "Since the professor is late, why don't we tell the stories of the Chamber of Secrets? We always tell them to the first years after Snape has gone, but since he's taking forever, why not save time?"
Everyone nodded, and I looked at Draco, wondering if he had any idea what was being talked about, and he shook his third year started, "Every year, the third years tell the story to the first years, of how Slytherin came to be. It all started when the founders started Hogwarts-"
"There will be no frivolous storytelling until after I am gone. Understood?" We all nodded, and sat in silence in order to listen to Snape to lecture us.
FACT: I hate this chapter. I messed up the last one by sending Vespera to the Hospital Wing.
The next chapter will go back to Vespera being in the Hospital wing, her being sorted, and then pick up at this point.
