The Magician of Suwa: The Beginning

Valeria

Leiyos doesn't know when duty becomes… something else, but when he starts hearing the teasing comments the soldiers make about his little protégé, he's not angry.

He doesn't quite know what to feel.

They couldn't be more dissimilar: one dark and tan, the other light and pale, one tall and rough, the other short and delicate. Still, he can't deny that the boy has picked up several of his mannerisms.

Fai is still quiet, but not scared. Observant, but not fearful.

All the same, Leiyos hopes the soldiers know better than to use such a nickname anywhere near a noble.
