Summary: Asami starts manufacturing motorcycles…what else can I say?
Korra liked surprises, but this wasn't what she had in mind, "Asami, I can barely drive a car, and it has four wheels!" she admonished, "What do you think will happen with half the wheels?"
"Silly," Asami observed, "this is a surprise for you, but you're not driving…I thought we'd take to the streets, like old times, just you and me on my Satocycle."
"Why not take your car?" Korra asked, suddenly caught in a daydream of sitting next to Asami with the wind in her hair and then called herself back to reality as Asami spoke again.
"Well, a couple of reasons…those Cabbage Corps motorcycles are unsafe in too many ways, so I submitted an article on it, which was met with complaints that I was just angry because my dad didn't invent these and make me a million yuans richer, and still no changes have been made in the company's motorbikes, so I had my people work on one of our own, which I will test today, for handling, I want to make sure people have incentive to allow me to compete against the every negligent Cabbage Corps."
"Well…that's nice of you to worry about everyone like that, but I don't know about…me and motorcycles, three years ago I would have jumped on without a second thought, but now…panic attacks, and plus…there's nowhere to go if I fall of the seat."
"Well," Asami blushed, "that's just…well, for a two seated vehicle, you kind of have to hold on…like your…arms are…the seatbelt."
"Oh," Korra twiddled her fingers, as it dawned on her what Asami meant, "so like this?"
Korra wrapped her arms around behind Asami, and looked up at her.
"Almost, you'll be behind me." Asami said, burning furiously, "Unless you don't want to do this…it is kind of loud."
"Well, I do want to do this, even if it might seem a little…terrifying."
"If you just want to take things slow and try to keep things as uneventful as possible today, the motorcycle can wait, I'll just keep it here and keep it maintained, just in case you ever decide to take it for a spin."
"Well…no, it's not…that way, it's more like I can just imagine staring down death every second until it stops," she set a hand on Asami's face, "but it reminds me of the early days of our friendship…when you introduced me to your race track."
"So…limit it to the race track?"
"Ha, ha, while that might be for the best, I'm not afraid, just a little anxious, but then, those bandits in the Earth Kingdom, back when it still the Earth Kingdom, seemed to be comfortable fighting and riding their motorcycles…who knows, maybe it just seems weird at first."
"Well, let's start by seeing how the handling is on the track, only a couple feet, then if you want to, we'll take on the full track."
"So…you haven't tried this out yet?"
"Not yet, there seemed to be something wrong with that…like this bike was built for two."
"Well, I'm here now, so let's do this." Korra got on the motorcycle and scooted back to make room for the engineer.
"I'm glad to see you're…not looking back, that's a good sign, I think, but the rule is still helmets first, sweetie." Asami said, holding a helmet over Korra's head.
"Alright." Korra said as the helmet fitted over her head, the visor falling closed over her face.
Korra felt the weight shift on the bike, and Korra wrapped her arms around Asami.
"This is going to be loud, Korra." the engineer remarked, before turning the key in the ignition.
Korra yelped and tightened her grip as she jolted from the thunderous engine.
"Sorry, that was very loud, huh?" Asami yelled over the engine's roar.
"Yeah, but I guess that's what the helmets are for, right?" Korra said, accustoming to the sound of the bike.
"And if we crash…which is likely enough. Alright, hang on!" Asami said, before speeding off a short distance.
"Yeah…whoa!" Korra jumped forward and held Asami tighter again as the world around them jumped backwards.
"So what do you think?"
"This is…a lot of fun, let's tear up this track!"
"I agree, sweetheart!" Asami replied, and they were off again.
After a while things seemed quiet, "Are you still back there?" she asked, looking down at where Korra's hands were.
"Yeah!"
"You're awfully quiet."
"You don't hear any complainants, though." Korra pointed out, yelling over the air as they cut through it.
"True enough. Maybe next time you can drive."
"Uh, I don't know if that's teasing, or an actual offer, but I like staying back here, I get to hold onto you and wear a helmet, while riding on a motorcycle at breakneck speed; it's great!"
"Hmm, I could get use to this, I suppose."
"Right, and remember the last time I tried to drive? I almost ran over a Spirit Vine."
"Ah, that's why, then."
"Well, yeah, but I also like leaning on you, especially when it feels like we're flying."
"Well, the track ends somewhere up here; afterwards, should we go out someplace?"
"Yeah, then we can bring this to the kids, I bet they would love to see this, especially with how loud it is."
"Hmm, I agree, Meelo most of all would love this, he likes loudness, I've learned."
"Yeah…over already?" Korra asked as Asami shut off the engine.
"Well, we can ride this to wherever we go out to eat, then drive back."
"This will probably be our go to ride on missions, just you and me, busting down the badguys!" Korra said, stumbling of the motorcycle.
"Careful." Asami urged as Korra found her footing.
"Umm, my feet are asleep." Korra remarked, smiling sheepishly.
"Here." Asami pulled one leg off the bike and held onto Korra while she tapped the toe of her boots against the floor.
"This might take a minute." Korra acknowledged, kissing Asami until the feeling in her feet came back.
