Thank you all so much for your reviews. It made me keep going. I'm so glad I was able to surprise you guys with the man behind it all. Thanks for the new follows and favorites a long with everyone's support!
"Mr. Kavanagh." I said.
How could I not know? There was always something about the woman's name that seemed familiar. I could never put my finger on it but now I knew. She was Kate's step mother. She never talked about her, always excluded her from being a part of her family, said she was nothing but a gold digging whore. Kate had only mentioned her once when we were talking about our pasts when we met, but she quickly discarded her and said to never mention the woman again. That was the last I heard of this Elena and the few times I saw Mr. Kavanagh, he never brought her around due to Kate's hatred for her. I stared at the man who was the father of my best friend. He was a handsome older man in his late thirties. Kate mentioned he had her when he was a teen. He wore a white laboratory coat and glasses that made him look sharp.
Christian's posture froze as I said his name and I saw the look he gave me out of my peripheral vision. He seemed a little confused and taken back at the knowledge I had of this man.
"W-what are you doing?"
"Hello dear. How are you?" He walked closer and grabbed a disinfecting wipe from the counter that was near him, taking it and wiping down one of those beds that belonged in a hospital. "Can you come take a seat for me?"
I backed up slowly, shaking my head. "W-w-what," I cursed myself for stammering, "Are you going to do to me?"
"Nothing too bad." He assured with a smile. "Just run some tests, stick a few needles in you for blood samples."
I looked at Elena, who was smiling disgustingly. I than gazed at Christian who remained emotionless but his hand began to sooth my upper arm without making it obvious. The David guy just stood in the back and didn't say anything. "No." I said. "I'm not."
The smile left his face. "Ana, I really need you to do this for me. I could discover something remarkable."
"No." I stood my ground. "This is wrong. You aren't supposed to be doing this. It's illegal."
"Maybe." He shrugged as if he didn't care. "But in order to make discoveries, sometimes you need to break a few rules."
"Not when it involves a human being. This is practically harassment and kidnapping. Not only are you doing illegal experiments but you're also creating multiple felonies."
"That won't matter once this is finished. And beside I didn't kidnap you or harass you. That was my lovely wife. I'm simply asking you politely to take a seat."
"And I said no." The words came out hard and through my clenched teeth.
"I would really appreciate it if you would cooperate then I wouldn't have to force you against your will and do things that I'd rather not."
"So now you're threatening me?"
"If that's what you want to call it, then fine. Your words not mine." He smiled. "Now come."
"No." I wasn't budging. There was no way I was going to go willingly.
Mr. Kavanagh looked at Elena, who smiled and looked over to David. He nodded his head and headed right towards me. I took a step backwards each time he took one forward. I looked at Christian who had a look of worry in his eyes and he mouthed the words, "Don't worry." I didn't know whether to take him seriously for his word or make a run for it. "Calm down," he continued to mouth, "I have a plan."
Well, thank god for that because I was about to shit bricks. David eventually grabbed me by the arm once I had nowhere else to go and dragged me to the hospital looking bed. Holding me down with strength, I could no longer move or defend myself. Mr. Kavanagh came around and buckled me in with straps that came over my shoulders, my stomach, my hands and my feet. "No, no." I said as he buckled my torso down. David let me go then and I started to kick my legs everywhere. "NO! Let me go! You can't do this!" Having my mobility taken made the fear sink in, the reality of the whole situation. Mr. Kavanagh wasn't my best friend's dad, but a mad scientist who had an insane mindset. How he thought this was okay was beyond me, even if he would make a lot of money discovering whatever it was he wanted to uncover, it was wrong. The tears began to fall down my cheeks as I struggled to get out.
I looked around and saw Christian taking steps forward. I saw the anger, the worry, the sadness, and frustration. He wanted to do something, I could tell. Whatever this plan was of his, it better be good, because there is a lot at stake when it comes to my well-being and if he didn't something soon, I was going to go crazy. "Hold her legs down!" Kavanagh sneered.
David drew near and I yelled at him with so much venom I think I scared everyone in the room, including myself. "Don't you fucking touch me or I swear to God I will kill you!"
He froze for a mere second but quickly gained his composure and reached for my legs. I flailed them in every direction, kicking him in the chest. His body staggered back and he hissed out in pain. I never let up my kicking and I began to shake the bed as my adrenaline washed over me. "Stop!" He yelled.
I shouted back. "Let me go!" I couldn't get loose which made me scream in frustration, shaking the bed with all my anger. One of the machines that stood next to the bed fell over from the rapid movement, crashing to the floor and making sounds of electricity being tampered with.
"Son of Bitch!" Kavanagh yelled, placing his hands on my shoulders and shaking me. "Do you know how much that fucking costs! Stay still."
"Hey, that's enough!" Christian yelled his voice scary and dangerous. "Don't put your hands on her!"
"Christian, what does it matter?" Elena said.
"There is no need for it."
"Obviously there is if she isn't cooperating. She's damaging the equipment."
"What the hell did you think was going to happen by forcing her to be here? You really thought she would give in that easily and do what you wanted? Where the hell are your senses?" The look on Elena's face was shock and hurt. She didn't expect such attitude and vicious tones directed at her.
I was eventually buckled in, completely immovable. It was a feeling I never wanted to experience again. I felt nothing but helpless, completely dependent on someone else to come and rescue me. I didn't like it. I was there to catch myself when I fell and never needed another person to lend a hand. Now I was in a position to where an extra hand is the only thing that could save me. "Now." Kavanagh said, pulling me out of thoughts. "I just need you to stay still."
"Like I could go anywhere!" I spat.
"No need to get smart." He said, looking at a small bottle that held clear fluid. "Elena, dear, come keep her occupied while I get the shot ready. I need the right amount of dosage in order to sedate her."
Sedate? No, no. This cannot be happing and what's worse, he wants Elena to talk to me! I would rather die. "Why are you doing this?" I asked. "What could you possibly find!?"
"Well, Ana, I am a scientist and when Kate told me about your ability to see future events I couldn't pass up the opportunity to discover the secrets behind such…power."
Kate? "Kate, she knows about this? What you're doing?"
"Oh good heavens no." Elena said. "She has absolutely no idea what's going on."
"I didn't want to include my daughter in such things. She'd never go a long with it anyway. You're her best friend." I looked at Mr. Kavanagh, who stuck a needle and the top of the bottle, drawing out the liquid into the cylinder tube.
"And Ethan?"
"That boy and I don't have the best relationship. Let's just say we aren't on talking terms." He measure the liquid one more and when he felt satisfied he continued to speak. "At first I didn't believe Kate. That's why I've had you follow for the past three years. I needed to make sure it was true. It gave me the time to gather some solid research that is if there was any. I had to some digging in old files and study you're every move. What information Elena gathered from her two little minions is what was reported back to me. I did some studying and wrote down every detail they told me." He flicked the shot with his fingers and let some of the liquid seep out from the needle. "Of, course I don't have all the information I wanted. I needed to get it directly from the source." He walked towards me. "So tell me Ana, when did you first start having these visions? What triggers it? Does your body go into shock?"
I didn't speak.
"I see. Well, I'm going to keep you here. I want to study your brain, look at the difference in wavelengths when you get these visions. I want to draw blood and study your cells, to see if there is something odd that causes these premonitions."
"Can't you simply believe that it's magic, or a gift from God?"
"Ha!" He laughed. "My dear, girl. I'm a scientist. I don't believe in God and I especially don't believe in magic."
"How long are you planning to keep me here?"
"As long as takes for me to find something that's worth the fame and fortune I'm planning to make off you."
"Imagine me, the scientist who discovered the secret behind a girl who can see the future. Once I find the cause of this in your blood, I can manipulate the variables and create a supplement that could generate the same thing that's in you, giving everyone the ability to see future events. You have no idea, what people would give to be able to do what you can. And with the right price, I'll give them that chance."
"You're insane." I stated.
"No, I am determined." He set the shot down on the table and picked up an empty one that was next to me. I struggled a little as he put a hand on my arm. "Now, be still or you will just make this worse." He held my arm, applying pressure just above my joint and making one of my veins bulge. He stuck the needle in me within the next second and filled the small tube up with my blood till it was full. "Thank you, for your cooperation."
I rolled my eyes.
"Now I am going to out you to sleep." My eyes went wide. "I need to study your unconscious mind, before I do the conscious. See if there are any similarities in the waves." He picked up the needle, tapping the side once more. "Relax. You will fall asleep almost instantly."
He raised the needle and I wanted nothing more than to scream. I couldn't believe this was actually happening to me right now. I hated to say this but I had become the victim. It was the most horrible feeling I could imagine. Me, being completely helpless. My head was spinning with ways that this could have all been avoided. Well maybe not avoided but delayed. There was something I must have done that changed the course of events because this wasn't like the vision I had of them, but the result is all the same.
"Christian!" Elena yelled. I looked up and saw him grab Mr. Kavanaghs hand with one of his, the hand with the shot and with his other hand he held onto his head, moving it aside and plunging the needle in his neck. The fluid was now coursing through Mr. Kavanaghs veins, making him fall to the ground. "What did you do!"
Christian quickly unbuckled the first two belts that held me, before David came over and tackled him to the floor. I lifted my body up and unbuckled the rest jumping out of the chair. Elena was soon on me in a second and we fell to the ground in a tangled mess. I could hear punches being thrown my Christian or David. "You bitch, what have you done!"
"Get off of me!" I yelled.
"I will not let you ruin this for us. Why can't you just-"
"You're delusional! Mad and crazy! This is wrong!" I got up on my knees and pulled my self away from her, but she got a hold of my ankle. "Let go!"
She pulled me down. I grabbed the nearby cart for support which wasn't all that stable. It tumbled down along with me and a few beakers fell, breaking into thick pieces. I turned my body towards her and tried kicking at her, but she ended grabbing it and pulling herself up. I punch her in the face as she tried to get a grip on my wrists, making her fall to the side which gave me the chance to look over some options. I took a look at what was around me, my eyes landing on a tube that was connected to a needle. I reached for the shot that was filled with some sort of liquid, crawling towards it. I was so close, a few more inches, and it would be in my hands. As I touched the tip, I winced, feeling Elena grab a hold of my waist.
I looked to see Christian punching David in the face repeatedly until he back away and ran into him, taking a hold of his torso and tackling him to the ground. He made a grunting noise and Christian hit him in the back with his elbow. My mind traveled back to Elena when I noticed her clawing at me and I started to shake her off of me. She wouldn't let go and I suddenly felt this sharp pain in my side, but that didn't stop me from reaching for the tube that held what could possible save me from this crazed woman. I took a hold of it in my hand and turned, letting her grab me. I saw an opening and I took it. Stabbing her in the arm with the needle, she cried out and then fell limp to the floor. Her eyes began to flutter and then they shut, not opening again.
I let out a deep breath and let myself fall to the floor. I could no longer move and my eyes began to feel heavy. My bod felt weird, almost as if it didn't exist. My adrenaline began to subside and I felt the stinging pain at my side that hurt when I moved, shuddered, or even breathed. I looked down as far as my head could move and saw the piece of glass sticking out of my side. There was blood that pooled around me and splutters that came from my wound. I slowly moved my right hand and placed it around the glass, hissing out in excruciating pain as I tried to remove it. The shard of glass was in there deep and I couldn't take it out without cutting my hand.
"No, no, no!" My eyes looked to Christian who had a bruised jaw. He dropped to the ground next to me and lifted me up. A tear from the pain fell from my cheek. "What has she done to you?" Me? She's the one knocked out cold. I have no idea what was in the shot I gave her so for all I knew she could possibly be dead. I didn't give it much thought though because the pain was starting to consume all my senses. "You're losing too much blood." His eyes grew watery and his jaw clenched. I wanted to smile at how much he seemed to care. It was sweet and I was glad he was the extra hand that I needed. His hand wrapped around the piece of glass and he tugged light. "It's too deep." His eyes gazed into mine. "I can't pull it out; if I do, you'll die of blood loss, but if I don't you'll die anyways." He shook his head. "You can't die."
"Just take the chance, Christian. Pull it out and tie something around my waist to stop it from bleeding." He did as asked and searched the room for something, anything. Gently, he sent me down and ran to where he was out of sight. I heard the ripping of something and he came back with cloth that was long enough to wrap around me at least twice.
He resumed the position he was in before he left and lifted me up. His hands began to wrap the cloth around my body so that it was ready to just be tightened when he pulls out the sharp object. "Are you ready?" He asked, placing his hand around the glass. I nodded telling him to just do it. I screamed in pain as I felt the edges of the glass tear through my flesh, it was unbearable. My eyes began to get blurry and my vision was turning black. Tying the piece of fabric in a knot, he pulled tightly, causing me to cry out. He held me after, his now bloody hand caressing and rocking me back and forth. "I am so sorry, for everything. I should have-"
I silenced him with a small shake of my head and I reached for his hand in mine. He let out an almost inaudible sob as he saw how it shook. "It's not y-y-your fault. Forget i-it." I said with a sigh. "I can't believe she stabbed me. What a bitch, right?" I laughed, wincing at the agony it caused.
"This isn't the time for jokes, Ana. We need to get you to the hospital." He looked over my body. "I'm going to carry you okay? It's going to hurt at first, but it should diminish so that it's somewhat bearable."
"Mmm." I said. "M-m-my night in shinning a-armor." I smiled, head falling to the side and Christians face beginning to fade.
"Ana? Ana stay with me! Ana!"
I was completely consumed be the darkness and the sound of Christian's voice faded in the distance, becoming nothing more than a mere whisper that ceased to exist.
