Chapter 12 - Dreams
Jude lowered herself down to the cold floor. She was exhausted. Tommy looked at her and plopped down next to her. They were both quiet. Jude replayed everything that had happened that night. Her finding out about Jamie and Kat. Her dad showing up unexpectedly. The kiss with Lance. And the undeniable moments with Tommy. She felt his eyes on her. Tommy stole glanced every chance he got. There she was leaning against the wall. Her head looking up at the ceiling, her hair had become a mess, her dress was crumbled, her perfect legs stretched out before her and her hands carefully placed on her stomach.
Tommy: "What are you thinking about?" he asked looking up at the ceiling with her. Jude didn't turn to face him, she instead let out a sigh.
Jude: "My life. Two years ago I was in my room with Jamie, playing my guitar and praying I'd get my chance and now-."
Tommy: "Now here you are."
Jude: "Here I am." she said. This time Tommy turned to face her.
Tommy: "You have regrets, don't you?" he asked sympathetic. Jude turned to him. She looked down at her hands and than back up at him.
Jude: "Not regrets, just dreams." she answered after she gave it a thought.
Tommy smirked: "And here I thought your dream came true."
Jude: "It did." she said and stayed quiet for a few minutes. Then she continued "It's just that when this dream came true another one developed."
Tommy: "I know the feeling. What do you dream of now?"
Jude: "I don't know. I normal life? Sometimes I wish things weren't so hectic."
Tommy: "Jude, you've left normal a long time ago. There is no going back."
Jude: "Yeah, I know. What about you? Any regrets?"
Tommy chuckled: "Any? How about my whole Boyzattack career?"
Jude: "I'm glad you were in Boyzattack." she said. Tommy turned to her surprised to hear her say that.
Tommy: "Why? I thought you hated pop music."
Jude shrugged: "I do but I don't hate you. It's because of your career with Boyzattack that you're here now and I don't mind having you around."
Tommy looked her in the eyes and he saw sincerity.
Tommy: "When you put it that way I don't mind where I am at now either." he said and turned away. He was honest. He didn't mind working with Jude, he didn't mind being her mentor and he didn't mind being locked up with her now. He thought about this when he noticed Jude getting up.
Tommy: "Where are you going?"
Jude: "Where can I go? Just getting something to drink. You want anything?"
Tommy: "Water." he said looking at her. Two minutes later Jude sat back down and handed him a bottle of water. This time she stretched out on the floor completely. To Tommy's surprise she lowered her head on his lap. He looked down at her, she looked up at him and smiled.
Jude: "Do you mind? The floor is pretty hard."
Tommy laughed: "No, that's how floors are usually supposed to be."
Jude hit him playfully. Tommy smiled. He felt relaxed with her. No walls were up, no pretenses. No worries. Just Jude and him, nothing in-between. Except for Sadie and Jamie and now Lance and the age thing and the whole producer-artist thing, but away from that nothing really. Tommy noticed Jude playing with her bracelet and he smiled to himself.
Jude: "You know Georgia thinks we have something going on?"
Tommy: "What? You and me?"
Jude: "Uh huh. Crazy I know."
Tommy: "How do you know she thinks something is going on?"
Jude: "She asked me tonight."
Tommy: "She asked you? Flat out?"
Jude: "Flat out."
Tommy: "What did you tell her?"
Jude: "The truth. You're with Sadie. You and me are just friends. What else could I say? I was a little shocked."
Tommy: "I would have been too. What did she say?"
Jude: "She said that we better be 'just' friends or there would be consequences." Tommy smirked. There would always be consequences involved where Jude was concerned. Some consequences were just worth the risk.
Tommy: "Well we are just friends. Besides, you seem to be getting pretty cozy with my brother." Jude straightened herself up and turned her body to be able to look at Tommy.
Jude: "What is your problem?"
Tommy: "Nothing, I just think he is wrong for you."
Jude laughed: "Of course you do. He is wrong for me just like Shay was and Jamie and the next guy that comes along."
Tommy: "I was right about both Shay and Jamie." he shot back at her. Jude lowered her head. He knew he struck a nerve.
Tommy: "Jude, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that."
Jude: "I hate you sometimes." she said looking at the floor.
Tommy: "Jude, I'm worried about you."
Jude: "We had this conversation already. I can take care of myself."
Tommy: "You shouldn't have to. You're only 17."
Jude: "Gee I didn't know that. Rub the age thing in my face."
Tommy: "Jude-"
Jude: "The only person I seem to need protection from is you." she fired back and stood up. Angry and mad she walked over to the other side of the hall. Tommy watched her and decided to follow.
Tommy: "That was harsh."
Jude: "What? Little Tommy Q can't handle the truth?"
Tommy: "I'll ignore that." he lowered himself next to her again. "I just want to protect you. I hate seeing you hurt."
Jude: "I don't want you to protect me. You're not my father, you're not my brother so STOP trying to be. What I need is supportive Tommy, my friend."
Tommy stayed quiet for a few minutes: "Why did you kiss him?" although he really didn't want to hear the answer part of him needed to hear it.
Jude: "Who? Lance?"
Tommy: "Yeah."
Jude: "I don't know. I just found out about Jamie and Kat and he came after me. I thought it was you, because you usually come after me but there he was. He said all the right things and I was vulnerable. He made me feel good. It just happened. What do you want me to say?"
Tommy's anger was rising: "That son of a-. He took advantage of you. I should have known."
Jude: "No Tommy, it wasn't like that. I kissed him."
Tommy: "Jude, don't make excuses for him. It's what he does."
Jude: "I'm not making excuses for anyone. Why are you so dead set against him? You ARE with MY sister. Lance is YOUR brother."
Tommy: "Jude."
Jude: "No, Tommy. It's not different."
Tommy: "Do you really like him?"
Jude shrugged: "I don't know. He makes me laugh. I feel good when I'm with him."
Tommy: "Jude, I know you're not going to like what I'm about to ask but I am going to ask you anyways. Please, don't fall for him."
Jude looked at Tommy. He was serious. He was asking her to not give away her heart. She had no control over it more than he did. She wasn't falling for Lance, she just met the guy but she did like being around him. Then there was Jamie.
Jude: "I don't know how to respond to that. I just broke up with my boyfriend, I don't think I'm ready for anything right now."
Tommy relaxed a little. This time he spread out on the floor and descended his head on Jude's lap. She looked down at him and ran her hand through his hair. The gel made it hard for her to maneuver through. Tommy closed his eyes. Jude didn't say a word. She just kept on playing with his hair. Time passed and Jude realized Tommy had fallen asleep. He looked so peaceful and innocent and she realized how much she enjoyed being alone with him. How much better they got along when it was just the two of them. As she felt her eye lids get heavier Jude placed Tommy's head carefully on the floor and lowered herself next to him, a smile spread across her tired face. She fell asleep minutes later.
Back At The Harrison Residence
There was knocking at the door. Victoria climbed out of bed and made her way to the door in her pajamas. She opened the door to find a stranger.
Stranger: "Hello ma'am. My name is Bob Hewed. I was your daughter's limo driver last night. Jude left this in the car, I just wanted to drop it off." he said polity and handed Victoria Jude's house keys and her cell phone. Victoria looked puzzled.
Victoria: "I'm sorry, what time is it?"
Bob: "It's 11:35 AM."
Victoria: "You didn't drive Jude home last night?"
Bob: "No ma'am. I waited for her and Mr. Quincy outside of the building for two hours but no one came. I saw someone leave the building so I asked if Jude was still inside. The man presented himself as the janitor and he assured me that the building was empty."
Victoria gasped: "Thank you." she said and closed the door. Panicking she ran to Jude's room. No Jude. She than ran to Sadie's door and flung it open. Sadie was still sleeping.
Victoria: "Sadie? Wake up." she said shacking her daughter. Sadie emerged from under the covers.
Sadie: "Mom? What's going on?" she asked still half asleep.
Victoria: "Do you know where Jude is?"
Sadie: "Mom, check in her room." she said and covered herself up again.
Victoria: "Sadie, Jude never came home last night." she said. Sadie was now wide awake and sat up straight.
Sadie: "What do you mean she never came home?"
Victoria: "Her driver just brought her belongings. I can't call her. He brought her cell. I don't know where she is."
Sadie: "Well, call Jamie or Kat. Maybe she slept over there."
Victoria: "Right. I'll call them and you call Tommy."
Sadie: "Why would Tommy know where Jude is?"
Victoria: "Sadie, just call."
