Chapter Twelve
I just walked. It was a cool evening and I cursed because I forgot to grab a sweater or something to keep me warmer. I wrapped my arms around myself. Kyo didn't just run away. I shook my head. No..something must have happened. Something like what? I wondered. Akito. I stopped walking and thought about it. The more I thought about it, the more it became clear. Kyo was pretty upset about the whole marriage thing, so he'd go take it out at the one person. Akito.
I shivered, and rubbed my hands on my arms trying to get warmer. I really didn't want to go back to Shigure's place, but I also didn't want to freeze to death. I sighed and looked up at the moon. The moon, so white, so pretty, so bright. I moved my gaze away from the moon and looked at the stars. Such a beautiful night. I jumped in surprised when I felt something wrap around my shoulders and looked up to see Hatsuharu. "H-Haru! What are you doing here?" I asked. He shrugged. "I think I got lost." he replied. I smirked and shook my head. "If you got lost, how did you end up with my sweater?" Haru gave me a blank look. I shook my head and smiled slightly as I quickly put it on, feeling warmer.
"Thanks Haru." I said and slowly started walking again. Haru walked beside me, quietly. After a bit, I stopped and sat down on a log. Haru sat next to me. "Haru...do you think Kyo ran away?" I asked him slowly. He shrugged. "Why would he run?" Haru asked. I was puzzled. Did Haru know what was going on, or was this a game to make me think. "Kyo is Kyo. He does the things he does because he thinks that if he does something, it'll help the people around him." Haru sighed and I looked at him. "He didn't Haru! Please tell me he didn't go see Akito." Haru looked sadly at me as he stood up. "What do you think?" He helped me up. I suddenly got dizzy and sick to my stomach. Haru held me. "C'mon, I think it's time to go back." he said softly. I looked at him. "No Haru. I have to go see Akito.." He shook his head. "Not tonight. You're not feeling well. We should get you back home." he said softly as he started helping me home.
I groaned and sat up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. Sunlight was coming through the curtains and I looked around trying to remember how I got here. Then I saw Haru asleep in my desk chair and it came back to me. I slowly climbed out of bed, grabbing my blanket and walked quietly over to him, carefully put the blanket over Haru. I quickly got dressed and quietly walked out of my room. By the sounds of things, everyone was still asleep.
I tip-toed down the hall and down the stairs. I had one thing I needed to do and that was to see Akito. I quickly put my shoes on and left. Ten minutes later I was standing outside the gates. I bit my lip and decided that maybe I was just being foolish, but no. I had to do this. I pushed the gates open and walked through them. It was quiet in the grounds. Probably because it was still early. I reached the door to the main house and knocked. No one answered, so I quietly snuck in. I tiptoed the way to Akito's room, and when I got there I decided whether or not to just barge in. I slid open his door and stepped into his room.
Akito jumped slightly, then turned and glared at the person who startled him. When he saw me standing there, his composer came back and he smirked. "Well well. What brings Kara barging into my room so early?" I took a deep breath. "You damn well know why I'm here. Where's my brother?" Akito laughed.
"Don't worry your pretty little head about Kyo. Don't you know he just ran off again?" he said walking towards me. "He couldn't handle the fact that you and I are getting married." I shook my head. "Stop lying to me Akito!" I yelled. "I know he came to see you! I know he's here so you better tell me where he is or so help me God, I will tear the whole place apart." Akito stopped inches apart from me and laughed. A laugh that sent shivers down my spine. He slapped me, hard enough that tears formed in my eyes, and I cringed away from him.
"How dare you speak to me like that! I am your God. Or did you forget that? You need to learn respect Kara. Just like that monster." He smiled, coolly.
"Kyo isn't a monster. Only monster I see is you, Akito, and that is why no one loves you, or will ever love you! They hardly listen to you half the time. And if they do, it's because they are afraid. You hurt everyone around you and you don't see it!" I took a breath, still firmly looking at Akito. "Maybe if you weren't so..so evil, they might, just might like you and accept you."
Akito glared at me, advancing again. I took a few steps back, until my back touched the wall. He put his hands on either side of me, holding him up. "They love me already. I do not have to change for them. I am God and I can do whatever I damn well please. You have no place here to say anything. I just tell you what you can or can't do."
He stopped and looked into my eyes. His eyes were so full of hatred that I shivered and looked away. He leaned forward and put his lips close to my ear. "You want me to let Kyo go?" he asked softly, so softly I hardly heard him. Was this a trick question? What was his game? "Well?" Akito asked, impatiently. I nodded slowly.
"Then you have to do something for me." he whispered and then bit me on the shoulder, hard, that I cried out. He quickly put his hand over my mouth and glared at me. "You don't want to wake everyone up do you? Cause if you do, you won't get your brother back. Not till after the wedding. If you're lucky." I glared at Akito, who looked really smug. I sighed and looked away, once again feeling defeated.
Kyo woke up with a start and perked his ears. Being born a cat, he had cat-like abilities. Hearing was one of them and right now he could hear something. Arguing? Yes. There were two voices. He could hear Akito's and another one that sounded familiar. Kara. What was Kara doing here? Why was she here? She should just leave before she, too, got punished by him. He needed to get to her, or get her attention somehow, but then if he did and Akito heard it, he'd be punished more. He didn't care. Akito could kill him and it wouldn't matter. Just as long as Kara was safe. He let out a frustrated sigh and with closed fists, hit the floor hard. He knew he couldn't do anything. Not like this. Not in this position.
