Departure

Matt, Wott, and Kip were at the beach. The sun was just now coming up. Kip had his bag which was filled with what they could get together in one day. Wott let Dan hold on to his bag since he figured Dan would need it more.

"Anyone see Lapras yet?" Kip asked as he watched the horizon. All that he could see were Wingull flying along the shore.

"He'll be here." Matt said. "He's not the type of Pokémon to be late."

Wott was thinking about what he'd do when they arrived. Go to his family immediately or lay low to find out what's going on? Wott was leaning on the latter. Hopefully we'll have enough time.

The three had already said their goodbyes to their teammates. It was more eventful than they thought it'd be.

The three had just gotten everything together when Torch came into the base.

"Ready yet?" She asked.

"Just about." Matt answered. "Wott you have everything?"

"Hm?" Wott realised Matt asked a question. "Oh, yeah. I'm good."

"He ok?" Torch whispered.

"I don't know." Matt responded. "He's been like that since he got that message from Chatot."

The four left Team Hope's base and when they came outside their other six friends were waiting.

Dan held out his hand to Wott. "Well... Good luck."

Wott shook Dan's hand. "Just keep Paradise safe."

"Be careful you three." Rose said.

Kip smiled. "Come on? What do you think will happen?"

"You never know." Notch laughed. "I certainly am sure of that."

"See you around." Torch said.

"You got that right." Matt nodded.

"Is someone leaving?" Someone behind the group asked.

The team turned and saw Wigglytuff coming their way.

"Guildmaster?" Matt didn't expect him to be here.

"Hello all my new friends!" Wigglytuff began jumping in circles. "Enjoying Treasure Town?"

"Yes we have been enjoying this place." Ve answered. "But... we're leaving soon."

"So soon?" Wigglytuff stopped bouncing. "But didn't you just get here?

"Unfortunately a few things came up elsewhere." Dan said.

"Oh... but, but..."

"Don't worry Guildmaster." Torch reassured him. "We'll bring you something from Paradise."

"Oh... All of you are going to Paradise?" Wigglytuff began jumping again. "Be sure to say hi to my friend Quagsire, he's very friendly."

"Some of us aren't going to Paradise." Wott sighed.

"Where are you going then?" Wigglytuff began to tear up. "Are you all no longer friends?"

"Oh, no it's nothing like that!" Wott said quickly. "It's just that Matt, Kip, and I need to go check on my family."

"Oh, ok, that makes sense." Wigglytuff turned back toward the town. "Say hi to Lapras for me then!"

"How did he know about Lapras?" Kip asked.

"He knows a lot of Pokémon." Matt watched the Guildmaster leave.

"You learn to live with it." Torch added.

"Well then." Tom said. "Goodbye?"

Wott began to walk toward the beach. "See you around everyone."

"Bye!" Kip waved as he left as well.

"Have fun in Paradise." Matt said as joined them.

"Guan jarna!" Zero shouted.

"What's that mean?" Ve asked Zero.

"Zoris," Zero explained. "It means 'Good Journey.'"

Zoris was an ancient code that Zoroarks and Zoruas used to send messages secretly.

Torch watched as the three disappeared into the crowd of Explorers and she felt bad.

The last time Matt left without her was when he was erased from time.

Matt was feeling the same way. If a war did start, if something happened, he didn't want to think about that.

A few minutes later they were at the beach and waiting for Lapras to show up.

"Ok, this is taking too long." Kip turned to Matt. "Where is he?!"

"Right behind you." Lapras said.

Kip jumped and turned to see Lapras looking as if he was there the entire time.

"Lapras!" Kip shouted. "Don't do that!"

"My apologies." He said. "Are you three ready?"

"As will ever be." Wott replied. The three climbed onto Lapras's back. He began to swim toward the open sea.

Alex watched the three get on Lapras and begin sailing off toward the horizon.

"Are they still there?" Someone asked behind him.

Alex turned to look at a Buizel standing behind him. This Buizel was also his younger brother.

"Shut up Brandon!" He said in a hushed whisper. "They're leaving but they could still hear you!"

"Oh... right." Brandon looked around uneasily. "Where are the others and where is that Aron?"

"I don't know, probably still in town." Alex remembered the Aron, he didn't want to go through that again.

"We should head back." Alex said. "Tell the guys what's happening."

The two Buizel ran back to their camp. When they returned their other two brothers were waiting. Andrew, the oldest and Tony, the second oldest.

"You won't believe this!" Alex said running in.

"The Oshawott, Mudkip, and Piplup got on some Lapras and began to swim out to open sea!" Brandon said.

"Was Notch with them?" Tony asked.

"No, he is still with the rest of the group." Alex replied.

"So..." Tony smiled. "Will be able to get some payback!"

"No, forget Notch." Andrew said sternly.

"What?" Brandon said. "But, but doesn't he owe us?"

"Yes, but he isn't worth the trouble..." Andrew thought about this. "Yet if his friends are by themselves..."

"But there with a Lapras." Alex reminded. "Aren't those tough?"

"Yes they are." Tony answered.

"But, we're the Buizel Brothers!" Andrew added. "This is the perfect opportunity! I say we follow them!"

"Um... Is that really the best ide-"

"Of course it is!" Andrew interrupted Brandon. "We'll leave immediately!"

Andrew always had the last say on things. No one could really convince him of anything but his way. Alex knew better than question this.

Dan laid out the Magnagate case on the crossroads. He then took out four entrecards. A star, a snowflake, a diamond, and a fire were engraved on them. These symbols opened a dungeon that would lead to Paradise.

Dan placed the fire in the upper left hand slot, the star in the lower left hand slot, the snowflake in the lower right hand slot, and finally, the diamond in the upper right hand spot.

After he put the last card in nothing happened.

"Uh..." Torch said. "Is something supposed to happen?"

"Wait for it." Dan said. A group of locals had gathered. They wanted to see a Magnagate.

The casing began to glow and what seemed to be a shadow passed over the group. The temperature dropped slightly as three red rings opened up around the casing.

What was like an explosion occurred as the gate opened and smaller rings appeared to float in the air above where the casing used to be. Now what appeared to be a whirlpool sat there.

"Ok." Dan said. "We go in pairs of two. Zero, Ve. You're first!"

Tom and Ve stepped forward. "You ready?" Ve asked.

"Sure am." Zero said.

"Then lets go." Ve and Zeri ran into the center of the three rings and vanished.

"Torch, Rose!" Dan called. "You're next."

"Here we go." Rose said.

"I'm so excited." Torch jumped and ran into the gate, Rose was directly behind her.

"You two, hurry before it closes." Dan said as he went into the gate.

"Well." Notch said. "Off we go."

"On the second journey." Tom and Notch ran into the Magnagate and Tom was surrounded by a bright light.

Several thoughts entered his mind. The words "Dire" and "Vein" again. What does it mean? Tom thought.

Then several numbers appeared in his mind. They appeared so fast he couldn't keep track of them. Then four more words appeared. Ti vaiaran kae rellian.

Then the light dissipated and Tom opened his eyes. He looked around to see he was in a cave.

"Hey Tom! Look at this place!" Ve shouted. "Isn't it amazing!"

Tom looked around. This Mystery Dungeon looked much different from the others he had been in. The ceiling and walls had blue, red, and yellow gemstones scattered about it.

Dan then appeared out of the Magnagate.

"So this is what a Magnagate dungeon looks like?" Tom asked him.

"No, not all of them." Dan answered. "They are still just as random and dangerous as a normal dungeon."

Dan walked away from Tom and Notch.

"Hey Zero can I ask you something?" Tom asked.

"Sure, what'cha need?"

"Does the phrase uh..." Tom tried to remember what the words were. "Ti vaiaran kae rellian mean anything to you?"

"Well, it is Zorish." Zero replied. "It means 'The villain will reveal.' Why?"

"When we went through the Magnagate." Tom whispered. "I saw these words along with a bunch of numbers."

"Why are we whispering?" Ve asked as she came over. "What's wrong?"

"Tom had another memory." Zero informed. "At least it seems like a memory."

"So why the whispering?" Ve asked.

"I don't want to cause anymore fuss." Tom answered. "Especially with Dan."

"Hey guys, you coming?" Notch called.

"Yeah!" Ve shouted back. "Hold on."

The three ran up to meet with the rest of the group.

There was Ocean in every direction. They had been in the open sea for at least five hours. It was a much longer journey than the one to the Hidden Land Matt thought.

Wott had used this time to inform Kip and Wott about his home.

"So when we get there we should first keep a low profile."

"Ok." Kip said. "Then what?"

"I haven't thought that far yet." Wott sighed.

"So... you don't have a plan." Matt frowned.

"This is a war we're talking about Matt, not some Mystery Dungeon exploration."

"I'm just saying." Matt retorted. "If this is a war we need to go directly to your family."

"Yeah but, that would do no good if we don't know what we're getting into." Wott said. "Things there are, complicated."

"How so?" Kip asked.

"Well, everyone is mainly looking out for themselves. There aren't really any alliances that are permanent."

"Then there is the Silver Wing." Lapras added.

"The what?" Kip had never heard of anything like that before.

"It's an old treasure that Lugia uses as a symbol of power." Wott explained. "When it was stolen it started the war a hundred and fifty years ago."

"So... the war was over a feather?" Matt laughed. "You're right, things are pretty complicated down there."

"The Silver Wing is an object almost as important as a Time gear Matthew." Lapras responded.

Matt immediately stopped laughing. "Why?"

"Because it is in one of Ninetail's prophecies." Lapras looked at Kip. "You should know the significance of this."

"Uh..." Kip thought about this. "Yeah. I can see why a war could start. What was the prophecy?"

"That the world would fall if Lugia lost it." Lapras's expression was grave.

Matt saw something to their left. It was an isolated fog that was barely visible. "Lapras?" Matt asked. "Is that the Hidden Land?"

Lapras looked at the fog. "Yes it is."

"What's it doing all the way out here?" Matt said. "Isn't it closer to the mainland?"

"The entrance was moved because of complications."

Wott looked at the fog and was amazed by it. It looked like it was there and not there. It was very odd.

Then out of the ocean nearby a great Wailord burst out of the water.

"Wow!" Kip shouted. "That's huge!"

"We must be close to your home Wott!" Matt added.

"No. We're not." Wott's answer confused Matt.

"How do you know?" Matt asked.

"Because if we we're near the place we would be able to see the Silver Palace." Wott remembered the grand halls and never ending corridors of the palace.

"What's that?" Kip asked.

"It's where Lugia has his seat of power." Wott explained. "It's massive, and even though it's so deep underwater you can still see it."

"What?" Matt said. "How?"

"It's a very special place." Wott smiled. "Apparently it's a controlled Mystery Dungeon. They used a Mystery Dungeon's Space warping abilities to make it visible from the surface."

"Uh... no" Kip laughed. "You can't just control a Mystery Dungeon. That's just ShadowFlame's lie."

"Keep in mind that we're talking about a Legendary Pokémon with somewhat of a self-obsession. He would try to do anything." Wott frowned. "I think that's one of the reasons why I had to leave that place."

"You met Lugia?" Kip was impressed. "What'd he say?"

"I never actually met him." Wott said. "I just knew this from the way he ruled the kingdom."

Another hour passed and finally Lapras said.

"Wott. We have arrived."

Matt looked into the water and his jaw dropped. He saw the Silver Palace at the bottom of the Ocean. Wott was right, it was massive, and he could clearly make it out. A stabilized Mystery Dungeon... awesome.

"How long can you three hold your breath?" Lapras asked.

"A while." Wott answered.

"Six minutes." Matt said.

"Somewhere in between those two." Kip replied.

"Then I'll be fast." Lapras then dived underwater and they plunged into the depths of the Ocean.

Matt saw the palace surge toward them. He realised they must have been in some sort of current. He could feel the pressure of the ocean rise. He may be a water type but that didn't mean he was immune to water pressure, or that he could hold his breath forever.

Matt could see the rest of the seafloor and saw the palace for all of its beauty.

Four towers stood tall at four different corners of the palace. The palace was more of a compound with many different small buildings interconnected with each other. The buildings were suspended in the water. At the center of the compound was a massive spherical structure that Matt guessed to be the throne room or something of that nature.

Matt also saw that the entire place was lit in a bright light. Many windows were built into the structure. He could see many different Pokémon inside. Some of the buildings were filled with water while others were clear.

Lapras went to the bottom of the palace and went through an opening in one structure. He surfaced inside of the building which was half filled with water and half open air.

Matt caught his breath and looked around. This building was spherical like the main one but it was many times smaller. Matt jumped off Lapras's back and looked out of one of the windows. He could see many different Pokémon swimming around from Wailord to Tirtouga to even some Pokémon he had never seen before.

"I wish you luck on your task." Lapras bowed his head. "But I must take my leave."

"Thanks for the ride Lapras!" Kip said.

Lapras dived back underwater and Matt saw Lapras through the window.

"So where to, Wott?" Matt asked.

"Might as well go to the markets." Wott said. "You never know what you'll find there."

Wott looked down the hallway that lead out of the entrance. Not many Pokémon came down to the lower levels where they were at. It should be easy to slip into the crowd.

Kip felt uneasy. The wall of the room had many different carvings on them. The images were of destruction and war. At the top of the room was the image of two figures. A great bird clashing with a large leviathan like creature.

"Zero what did you do!" Ve shouted back to him.

"You think I know? Just run!"

Tom looked behind him and saw a giant Steelix slithering toward them. It had come out of nowhere and separated them from the rest of the group.

Maybe Notch's luck runs in the family. Ve thought.

"Turn right!" Tom pointed toward a tunnel. "It can't fit in there!"

The trio ran into the tunnel. Tom looked behind him to see if the Steelix would follow. The Pokémon looked down the tunnel and used Screech. Tom covered his ears as the scream filled the air. Him and his team ran down the tunnel to get away from it.

The Steelix eventually stopped and left.

"Can you hear anything?" Zero asked.

"What?" Ve shouted.

"I guess not." Zero said. "And before you ask, no, this wasn't my fault."

Tom chuckled at Zero's remark. "What are you laughing at?" Ve asked. "What's funny?"

Tom looked around at the Dungeon and looked for the best way to go. There were three tunnels ahead of them. Each could lead to the exit, or another Steelix, or something worse. Tom got a feeling that it was the middle tunnel they should go down.

He didn't know how, but when he was in a Mystery Dungeon he sometimes could tell which way was which. Ve and Zero didn't have an idea why and neither did the rest of the team, well at least the rest of the team that knew.

"We should go down that center path." Tom said.

His two partners didn't reply. Tom turned and saw that they were both frozen solid. Behind them was a Froslass who was smiling at Tom.

"Why, hello Thomas." She said. "Care to have a chat?"

Tom immediately used Thunderbolt on the new enemy. She gracefully dodged the arc of lightning. She ducked behind a boulder.

"Come on Thomas." She said. "That's no way to treat an old friend."

"I'm sorry." Tom replied. "But we have never met."

"Have we now?" The Froslass sighed. "So you really are gone."

Before Tom could respond to this the Froslass jumped up and used Ice Beam. Tom ducked and the attack flew over him. He jumped up and used Thunderbolt on the Froslass.

She winced at this attack but shook it off easily. "So, it seems you're getting used to being a Pokémon."

She used Ominous Wind.

Tom was pushed back by this attack. He looked around for Froslass. But then something weird happened. It was like he could see the entire room. He was in the center, behind him were Ve and Zero, and Froslass was hiding in the wall since she was a Ghost type.

Tom focused and his vision extended to more than just this room. He could see the entire dungeon's layout. There were many different wild Pokémon scattered about and the rest of the team was just a few rooms away. He could see this and his "normal" vision at the same time. Everything seemed to be playing in slow motion.

What is this? Tom thought. The vision then became blurry and distorted.

Then everything went to normal and Tom found himself on the ground with a headache.

"Ah. So you can still do that..."

Tom turned to face the Froslass but she used Ice Beam on him before he could respond.

Notch was leading the pack. They were moving at a semi fast pace. Notch wanted to make sure his sister was ok. But he wasn't that worried. He knew she could take care of herself. That didn't mean he couldn't worry though.

He turned the corner and almost choked. In front of him was his sister and her friends, all frozen solid.

Torch who was right behind her said: "Oh Arceus." She didn't waste anymore time though. She ran up to Ve but then paused. "I could unthaw her, but that might hurt her..."

"We don't have much of a choice though do we?" Dan asked as he analyzed the situation.

"Wait." Notch stopped Torch. "I have an alternative."

Notch ran at Ve and used Iron Tail not on her but on the ice that surrounded her. This broke her free and she immediately shouted.

"Behind us!"

Dan instinctively looked behind him. Rose giggled at his reaction.

"What's wrong?" Torch asked as Notch freed Zero.

"There was someone following us." Ve said. "I felt them at the last second..."

Zero looked around. "If only I had a few more seconds to react."

Tom awoke to what sounded like glass breaking. His head was still spinning. He looked around to see everyone staring at him.

"Uh- Hi?"

"You alright there Tom?" Zero asked. "You look a little-"

"Pale." Ve finished.

Tom remembered how sick he felt after fighting Skuntank yesterday, this was twenty times worse.

"Where is that Froslass?" Tom asked.

"The what?" Dan's turned to Tom.

"There was a Froslass here. She attacked us three."

"Sorry Tom." Rose said. "But there was no Froslass here."

"Darn." Tom looked down the tunnels and try to do that trick again. But no matter how hard he focused he couldn't get that image of the Mystery Dungeon to appear in his head.

"Tom?" Torch looked at him confused. "What are you doing?"

Tom turned to look at the rest of the group.

"Ok." Tom thought about how to say this. "So over the past few weeks weird things have been happening to me."

"Like turning into a Pokémon?" Torch laughed.

"Weirder." Tom continued. "Whenever I'm in a Mystery Dungeon I just know how the place is laid out. Sort of like a map."

"Is that what you did one night?" Rose remembered. "You were able to get to safety and you didn't even have a map."

Rose was referring to the time a Mystery Dungeon formed around them. Tom just knew where to go that night.

Dan sighed. "So you can feel your way through a Mystery Dungeon?" He looked at Ve. "And you can sense other's feelings." He then looked at Zero. "You have anything you want to keep secret."

"Nope." Zero smiled. "Except for the fact that you're somewhat annoying."

Dan rolled his eyes. "Come on. This dungeon shouldn't last for much longer."

Rose then walked beside Tom. "So how does it work?"

"I don't know." Tom thought. "It just does." Tom pointed down one hallway. "That way leads to a trap, that way leads to the exit, and that way leads to a dead end."

"Does it always work like that?" Rose was astonished by this newfound ability. Mystery Dungeons are supposed to be unpredictable, yet here Tom was with some sort of internal map.

However, Tom didn't answer Rose's question. "Tom?"

"Huh?"

"Are you ok?" Rose asked.

"That Froslass." Tom explained. "She knows me somehow."

"What?" Rose replied.

"Somehow, she knew me when I was a human."

"That's not that hard to believe though." Torch joined in. "After all, Matt was a human who lived in the Pokémon world."

"But wasn't he from the future?" Rose added.

"Then I guess... Tom is from the future. Maybe?"

"I don't know." Tom said. "Are there humans in this world?"

"Other than you, Dan, Rose, and Matt?" Torch thought. "No one knows for sure."

"Some people say yes." Rose added. "That they live far away, others say that they don't exist outside of fairy tales."

"Which is obviously false." Tom smiled.

"Well, yeah." Torch laughed. "There is one last theory. That they do exist, and that they are all in hiding."

Tom pondered on the increase of questions he now had. Actually they were the still the same questions. Who am I? Why am I here? Where am I from? They just had very small parts of the answer. Tom wanted to find the rest of it soon.

Cobalt couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Grace, are you seriously telling me that you intercepted Tom while he was traveling through a Magnagate Dungeon?"

"Yes I am." The Froslass replied. "What's wrong with that?"

"Well, don't you remember what Krow told us to do?" Cobalt waited for an answer. "We need to wait for further orders."

"Yeah and if we wait long enough the good Arceus himself will come down and join our side." Froslass looked at her friend, he wasn't satisfied. "Oh come on! I wanted to see if he remembered us."

"Yes, because he has fond memories of us." Cobalt sighed. "Somber said hi by the way."

"Oh, has she shown up."

"She showed up before you." Cobalt continued. "She's currently preoccupied."

"Good to hear from her." Grace turned to leave. "Oh there's one more thing about Tom."

"What is it?" Cobalt couldn't wait to hear this good news.

"He can still use his ability. You remember, the one where he can-"

"Yes. I remember."

Cobalt gave off an emotion he rarely ever gave off. Panic. Then he gave off one he almost always had. Curiosity.

Author's Update

Sorry for going off and disappearing like that. School really picked up over the last few weeks.

Anyway, a lot happened in this chapter. Allow me to address a few things:

1. The Silver Palace is not Rapture from Bioshock. The only similarities they have are that they are two cities that are underwater.

2. Water types can not hold there breath forever. (Unless they are a fish Pokémon.) They can just hold their breath for a long time.

3. I might disappear for a week or so again because school...

On a positive note I want to do short stories for other video games as well. They'd be like my Civ V fanfic. But this story will continue until it's finished. On my forum you can suggest different ideas.

Thanks for reading!
