HOSPITAL BLUES
Serena gave a sharp squeal as she lifted up into a set of strong arms, and looked into a set of sapphire blue eyes that were filled with worry at her condition. She struggled to smile and buried her face within his shoulder, as the sharp twinges of pain continued to occur, her body also shaking from fear at the possible loss of her young and unborn child. Darien pulled her closer into his arms, and scowled as he glanced over at his parents, before nodding over to Drake as he stormed out of the reception hall.
"Guys, you better follow after them." Gaea murmured as she looked after Darien. **Serena, I hope everything is ok for you. **
"What do you mean?" Drake asked as he looked at his mother.
**I don't think I'm going to like the sound of this. ** Drake thought as he glanced at Suzanne. **Mother looks so worried. **
"You know how your brother is, Drake, especially where Serena is concerned." Gaea whispered as she looked away. "Serena is in a high amount of pain and I have no doubt that Darien will be severely worried based on it."
Drake's eyes widened and he nodded, as he and Suzanne ran out of the reception halls to where Darien may have headed with Serena. It wasn't only until another two hours passed in hospital, that a doctor had stepped out of Serena's room, and Darien looked up with a scowl on his face, as the doctor approached the trio that were sat on the chairs outside Serena's room. Suzanne and Drake had gone with Darien when he left the reception halls, as they now stood awaiting further news since the nurse had brought news about an hour ago about Serena's miscarriage.
The trio were still wearing their outfits from the wedding reception that had been cancelled, upon the news of the bride now being hospitalised, their parents and siblings were now at home waiting for any further news. Everyone had mourned the loss of Serena's unborn child, Serenity and Gaea the worst, knowing that they should have pushed her to at least have a normal check-up to ensure everything was ok.
"Mr. Chiba, I'm afraid we'll have to move Ms. Moon from here into Cardiology." The doctor stated as he looked at Darien. "Unfortunately she looks to have deteriorated slightly, since you brought her in."
**Well if she's still not married to this brute, I can try and sweep -. ** The doctor's thoughts were interrupted.
"Its Serena Chiba and she's my wife." Darien snarled as he glared at the doctor.
"Oh, I suppose it is my apologies." The doctor stated with a bow, as he walked away.
"Darien, you need to calm down. " Drake growled as he glanced at his brother. "It will not do you or Serena any good to deal with the matter in this way."
Darien nodded and took a deep breath, as he turned away from the doctor. When the sound of nurses caught their attention, the trio looked up as they saw an unconscious Serena being pushed out to be admitted into cardiology. An oxygen mask was strapped to her mouth, with the monitors beeping by her side. In a time that was to be happy for them, it had now turned distressful with the news of Serena's miscarriage and deteriorating health.
"Mr. Chiba, she'll need to stay under the care of surgeons." A nurse whispered as she glanced at Darien.
"Are you going to be downstairs with her?" Darien asked as he turned to the nurse.
"I'll try but won't guarantee it." The nurse continued as she looked at the others.
"We'll pull some strings, Holly, but you are the only nurse we can trust with her." Drake stated as he stepped forward.
"Thank you." Holly whispered, as she nodded and looked over to the bed that contained her closest friend. "You know she'll be fine and on her feet as soon as possible."
"I'll speak to the lower council and see what they can do." Suzanne stated as she looked at Holly. "We need you in place, in the case that the other nurses mistreat her for something that was out of our hands."
About a week later, Serena silently followed behind Drake as they made their way out of her hospital room and to the car waiting outside; she was finally discharged after a week of unplanned stay. Her condition had deteriorated considerably due to her abdominal pains, and health suddenly taking a turn for the worst. The tears that clouded her baby blue eyes had nearly caused her to bump into a side wall, and the sound had nearly made Drake jump and turn to see his whimpering sister-in-law.
**Luna, are you worried on what this family thinks? ** Drake thought as he looked at his stumbling sister-in-law.
"I'm sorry." Serena whispered as she bent her head.
"There's no need to act like that, little moon." Drake whispered as he pulled her to his side. "Now, the others are waiting."
"Ok." Serena stated with no other words.
"Can you not give me a smile?" Drake asked as he looked down.
Serena looked up at him with watery eyes, knowing that it was due to her negligence that the child she had carried inside her for only a small period of time had died, when she could have stopped it. She struggled to smile but Drake shook his head and pulled her closer when he caught a familiar look enter her eyes and began to mutter silently under his breath.
Over thirty minutes later, the only two occupants of the house, who were awake, had heard a call pull into the driveway, and glanced up to see the headlights of a car flicker through the windows before they heard the tyres squeal. A dark blue BMW pulled up just outside the window, and the engine was cut off before they heard the sounds of the door open and close. Suzanne turned to the glance at the door in worry as she bit as her lower lip, even as Darien moved over to open it, and saw Drake reappear with a resting Serena in his arms. Darien began to move aside glancing down at his resting wife as Drake passed over into the threshold.
"Drake, what happened?" Suzanne whispered as she stood from her chair. "She does not look like she had a good experience."
"How are you two still awake?" Drake asked, as he shifted Serena. "It's 2am in the bloody morning."
"Answer the question first, Drake." Suzanne scowled at her fiancée. "I want to know what happened with my sister."
"I'll explain in a bit when I get Serena settled down." Drake sighed as he shook his head.
Serena whimpered and began to fidget slightly, even as Darien closed the door behind and caught the sudden sound from his wife. Drake rolled his eyes and pulled Serena closer, glancing over his shoulder at his brother. Darien was worried as the duo walked further into the main room, and Drake settled Serena on the couch. He stepped a little back and watched as Serena curled into a small ball, whilst asleep and turned to look at Suzanne and Darien, who had remained quiet up till now.
"Is she ok?" Suzanne whispered once more.
"Suzanne, you need to stop worrying." Drake whispered as he turned to look at her. "Serena is fine."
"Did everything go well at the hospital?" Darien asked behind him.
**I hope it did. ** Darien thought with a sigh. **I don't think I could bear to see her in anymore pain. **
"It nearly didn't." Drake sighed as he turned to his brother. "If Hayley hadn't been there, I don't know what would have happened?"
Hayley Ann Prescott was a close friend of the Chiba brothers, back in the state school, and was now the Chief of Staff of the hospital that Serena was admitted into. Hayley had been a close confidante for Serena as the years had gone by, and managed to get Darien and Serena together despite the differing personalities at the beginning, and the three families couldn't have been happier. Hayley had come to Serena's aide once more when she overheard the degrading words that where aimed at her in the Cardiology department when she was being discharged.
"What happened?" Suzanne squeaked out.
"I was signing the discharge papers and Serena overheard some nurses speaking." Drake stated as he closed his eyes in pain. "She burst into tears, when she caught on to the fact the nurses were speaking about her."
"You're joking." Suzanne hissed in anger.
"I wish I was, Suzanne but the words of those nurses cut deep." Drake sighed as he took a seat. "Serena's not going to be the same, especially after everything that's happened."
"We'll support her." Suzanne whispered adamantly.
Drake shook his head and gave a slight sigh as he turned away from both his brother and Suzanne, deciding to turn and look at his peaceful sleeping sister-in-law. He prayed that everything would go well now, and hoped that Serena would be able to breathe easily without issues and enjoy her married life with his brother. Drake shook his head in thought knowing that Serena and Darien should have been on their honeymoon at this point, but the events that life had thrown their way had changed all that.
In a couple of days, Serena would be on her way with Darien out of the country for their honeymoon, and as Drake glanced at Suzanne over his shoulder he knew it would be the truth.
