"You can get off second." Tobias gestures to Tris' team.
Marlene rolls her eyes, and reaches out to punch him in the arm. "That's an advantage we don't need, but we'll take so off you go." She dismisses us with a grin, and a wave of her hand.
Four stifles a laugh before turning back to his team. "Right then people let's go." He marches off Uriah at his side. The rest of us scurrying to catch up.
Scott runs up to Uriah a mischievous grin plastered on his face. "Where did you hide the flag, the year you won?" He says placing a hand on Uriah's shoulder.
"Navy Pier, but we can't hide it there again, thats where Tris expects lover boy to hide it." He laughs gesturing to Four, who up until now had been pointedly ignoring the conversation.
"Shut it." He smacks Uriah over the head lightly, a fake scowl plastered on his face.
"So where do we go?" Adam pipes up again.
"That's for you to work out dumbass."
"I say we hide it in the abandoned bookstore, inside the books it'll be near impossible to find." A blonde haired Dauntless born pipes up.
Adam frowns, "that's not a bad idea, Lily. How'd you come up with that one."
Lily laughs revealing a set of slightly wonky, white teeth. "My sister was on the winning team, a few years back. That's what she did."
"I knew you wouldn't be able to think that up yourself." A dark haired dauntless born, pipes in grinning from ear to ear.
Lily rolls her eyes, punching him lightly in the forearm. "Thanks Richie, I knew I agreed to date you for a reason."
Richie shoots back with a sarcastic smile, but before he can say anything else Tobias turns around, to break up the conversation. "Right losers, do you have a plan or do you want to lose to a bunch of girls?"
"The abandoned library. We figured we'd just hide it, and go out all guns blazing on them." Lily replies moving a little closer so he can hear her.
"Great, it's this way." Tobias gestures South towards a rather ominous looking patch of drawn together woods. To dense to be able make out where it finishes.
"Through the woods?" Calum, an ex-Erudite mutters, eyebrows drawn together in fear.
"Don't be such a pansy-cake, there's no such thing as werewolves you know." Uriah laughs, rolling his eyes at the overly cautious initiate.
"Yeah, I mean I know but-" Calum stutters his face turning a brilliant shade of red as he averts his eyes to the floor.
I adjust my gun over my shoulder, and shift onto my other foot. "Are we going then or what." I ask impatiently. "Only I don't wanna get caught by the other team right here."
"Alright then initiate, after you." Uriah laughs gesturing for me to lead.
"Fine." I march over to the opening of the woods, hovering slightly on the edge before delving into the thick woods. The rest of my capture the flag team following close behind me.
"Are you sure it's through here?" Claudia asks, speaking up for the first time this evening.
"Well we could go round, but that would mean turning a 5 minute walk into a 20 minute one, which would no doubt cost us the game." Tobias snaps impatiently at my best friend.
It's only when I whiz around to scold my brother for his overly harsh tone that I notice you can't see the light from behind us anymore, leaving us encased in a thick, black blanket of darkness.
Only the blanket offers no warmth, only an almost eerie whisper of cold that wasn't there before. I pull my jacket tighter around me suddenly grateful for it.
"Someone else is going to have to take the lead, I can't tell where we're going anymore. It's too dark." I sigh turning around to face the two initiation leaders.
Uriah smiles and inclines his head slightly, before marching confidently to the front of the pack. "Sure, I've done this like...once before," He laughs.
I roll my eyes, at the initiation leaders cocky attitude before dropping back to stand by Claudia. "You know this isn't exactly what I had in mind for tonight." I laugh pulling my ponytail tighter.
"Yeah, I know. I haven't slept properly since I got here. I'm gonna drop any minute." Claudia exaggerates her sentence with a loud yawn.
Before I can reply my bodies previous warmth returns, as the wood thins and breaks before returning us to what looks like a ruined town.
Grass spikes, and weaves up through huge piles of vaguely building shaped piles of crumbling brick. And overgrown bushes encase whole buildings in some places.
The only building remotely standing, and plant free is made of grey brick, and stands 200 metres to my left. "What is this place?" Calum whispers fear filling his bright blue eyes.
"Abandoned city, rumor has it years ago it was inhabited by factionless, until the Dauntless chased them out." Tobias informs us, in a monotone voice.
"Probably bullshit though, nobody really knows what was here, or why. School's just gotta tell us something." Uriah laughs reaching into his jacket, and pulling out a neon orange square of fabric. So neon in fact it illuminates the entire circle of initiates, clearly enough to make out their entire faces.
"How on earth are we supposed to make that inconspicuous?" I laugh gesturing to the pocket Uriah has just stuffed the flag back into.
A laugh sounds from my right. "In here." I whiz around to see Lily marching confidently towards the only standing building.
"It used to be a bookstore, and now its full of old books and empty shells, it will be easy enough to hide, and then we can just storm them." She finishes raising her voice more and more the further away from us she gets.
She reaches for a large iron handle, and forces open the half crumbled door emitting a large squeak, and a cloud of black dust that engulfs her entire body for a moment, before it subsides leaving her coated in tiny black particles.
"Well I'll admit that wasn't part of the plan." She shouts spitting out a mouthful of black, before delving into the shack.
An amused laugh escapes my lips, and I begin to follow after her. "Come on guys, it's a good plan." I shrug calling out to the people behind me.
Soon after the sound of heavy footfalls comes from behind me, indicating my teammates are following me.
"I still can't believe Lily came up with a good idea. This hasn't happened in 16 years!" A familiar arrogant voice laughs. Scott.
"Well it had to happen at some point." Richie replys reaching over to give his friend a high-five.
"You realise I can hear you?" A decidedly blackened Lily pops her head around the wrecked doorframe. "Come on, while you lot have been dallying I've found a place to hide it."
Ignoring the silly antics of the two boys in response to that I follow Lily into the broken building.
The second I enter the broken bookstore, I suck in a lungful of black dust causing a racking cough to fly from my lips, shaking my entire body with the force force of them.
Behind me I hear the echoes of my teammates suffering the same unpleasant experience.
The building is dimly lit by a faltering, uncovered lightbulb that hangs precariously from the ceiling on a twisted piece of wire. The walls are lined broken bookshelves, covered in dusty, mangled hardbacks, and paperbacks which appear to be missing the front cover and some.
"Well I didn't say it was in good condition, what do you expect from somewhere that's been abandoned for over 50 years?" Lily laughs, as we straighten up, shooting dirty looks at her.
She holds up her right hand, and for the first time I notice a light green tin in her hand. "GIve us the flag then." She reaches out to Uriah expectantly.
A sigh escapes his lips before delving into his jacket, and retrieving the glowing flag. And placing it into Lily's outstretched hand.
She scrunches it into a ball before chucking it into the tin with a smile.
'What's the plan now Einstein?" Richie laughs arrogantly.
Without saying a word Lily throws the tin up into the air before drop kicking it into the depths of the shack. Where it lands with a thud, and lodges inconspicuously under a desk with three legs.
'Now we can go and shoot the shit out of those losers."
A smile breaks out across my face. Now this is a plan.
